So I finally have the money and the space to get myself a z again.

I have the chance of getting a completely stock 91 model with low miles, but how long will it be stock? I owned one before so I know there will be things I want to change...

Do I get the stock one, and mod it to my likings knowing exactly what has been done and that it's done properly or do I pay a little more for an already modded example unsure of specifics? :-/

Best to make your own mark and know whats been done for sure. Modding is down to personal taste, so start with a blank canvas :thumbup1:

The dream car would be;

 

Suspension work, anti roll bars, coilovers, expensive wheels.

Respray with photos of the work and welding.

Interior work.

Expensive exhaust system.

Quick shifter, clutch flywheel.

 

The end.

 

Standard engine but loads if value in things like wheels and coilovers, on a car selling for £4000 to £5000. Then you have a relatively unstressed engine to do with what you will. Even if you don't like the wheels you can sell them.

 

Thats my opinion.

 

But get the car home and take it all to bits, check the coilovers aren't 4 different lengths and settings, thorough service with a good look at everyrhing you disturb on the way.

The dream car was up for sale not long ago, infact it was the one I sold a couple of years back...

Bought it somewhat stock, only mods where a slight increase in boost, the clutch and timing belt was also replaced, so it was a solid foundation, all I did was upgrade intercoolers and airfilter, jdm 99 front end, taillights, chrome instrument rings and a good stereo, lowered and a different set of wheels.... Nothing crazy, just a subtle refinement of an already great car.

Unfortunately I don't have the money to buy it back, well I could if I would but that would mean parting with the motorcycles and my lovely old datsun 720 :P Boys and their toys I suppose...

The one modded I was looking at was sold now so that narrows it down, don't know why I started this thread as I probably already know the answer :P

This time it looks like I'm gonna end up with a red one. Which is also nice as long as it's maintained properly... :)

"welding"? why would you want to start of with a car that's already rotten?

 

I didn't realise it at the time, but I bought my car rotten, the rot hidden behind skirts. I have had it sorted out, I hope I am right to say that, the car is no longer rotten and will take another 25 years to get back to the state it was in. If I was happy that it was properly restored I would see it as a positive in a car I was buying.

 

Or what are your thoughts on it?

Just because a standard 300zx can't do what I want it to do, but a modified one does exactly what I want a car to do, moreover it does so bloody well and with some style :biggrin:

When I say modify I don't mean it in the sense of bodykits, bling and other hideous stuff, I mean it in the sense of bringing out the hidden performance one can get by choosing the correct mods, suspension, brakes and intake/exhaust kind of stuff. Plus the 99 front end, I love those :-D

the way prices seem to be rising for clean zeds ide be inclined to try find a really nice bog standed one and keep it that way and just improve its originalty;)

Guess it's happening then! Just bought a oneway ticket to Stockholm to pick up a red 2+2 TT manual, all stock except wheels.

Here's what I ended up with

Then drove it 814kms from Stockholm Sweden to Kristiansand in Norway...

It's got 85000km on the clock, is all stock (even got the oem wheels) and is in fairly good shape. A few nicks and scratches and of course a rotted rear wing.

But can anyone tell me what's.going on here:
