As some of you will know. I've been having a stalling problem when coming off boost and putting the clutch down. Anyway, done a couple of boost leak tests and wasn't bringing up and of the usual suspects.

So, I managed to find some air coming our near the drivers turbo, didn't seem a massive amount of air so assumptions were as normal, dam clamp... So, decided I'm taking all the turbo outlet pipes off as that might be the best way to go and bingo, found the problem.

Obviously it didn't feel like loads of air because the whole was so dam bog and pointing a direction that I couldn't get in to listen at, so I was just finding a small amount blowing back.

Wrapped it up in some self bonding adhesive stuff to drive home in and no more stalling issues, so definitely think that was it.

But where was that hose supplied from ? I thought silicone hoses were supposed to be indestructible ?

Well done for finding the culprit though ..... zeds don't feel the same without warp drive !

Wasn't sure on the first Pic, bet defo problem on third...its got a big thumb stuck in it.

Good find Buddy,

Nothing is indestructible, hard to break yes but indestructible is simply a target for the hooligans.

On a serious note, notice how the stock layout and subsequent rehashes by the likes of Ashspecz etc has a hard pipe on the elbow there. The silicone is just a small straight with minimum resistance. That point that's failed is the hottest part of the intake/intercooler loop, couple that with the fact that your gaining resistance as a result of bending the current of air, think how a river cuts it's path always eroding the bend to straighten up. Resistance equals heat. Basically there's ALOT of stress being exerted on that point of the elbow. When you think about it that poor bend is bound to crack/split/stretch basically fail eventually. This is mostly speculation but it's based on applied theory. Poor design IMO.

Yeah, be a fairly easy fix, just a pain in the ass to get at but didn't take too long really.

Part of me just wishes I didn't have the stupid pentroof manifolds as the normal outlet pipe just won't fit in either side

Pmsl.

On a side note, when trying to have the car mapped in the past, we thought the boost controller wasn't working, recon this could have just made it seem like it wasn't working?

Pmsl, to be fair, this may be the problems. Would still need to be mapped again though

New pipe ordered today.

What's the best way to cut these? Junior hacksaw?

I'm thinking a junior hacksaw might cut straighter that all.

Anyone know if a leak like this could mean the boost controller would seem like it wasn't working? Cos you'd not be able to get the boost up enough

It looks to me like it has had a hot gas leak onto it, or has touched something hot etc. Making it brittle or whatever.

Good find, and it seems sensible to me that could mess with an ebc. Also the ebc would compensate for that or at least try to.

Got the new pipe today. So, since there's no time luke the present, I decided I'll get this dam air leak fixed.

So cut it down with a stanley knife. Left it a bit bigger at both ends than the old one, put everything back together and hey presto. Drives nice.

Managed to get up to 16 psi which is more than I've seen for ages. Will do another boost leak check now its all back together to see if it holds pressure again.

Did a sound clip video to show how awesome she sounds but you can't really tell on a phone to be fair.

Only problem was, when I got back, the aerial decided it was bust. Just sounds like the motor trying to pull it down but not working. Just unplugged it lol
