well had a lovely email from Jimmer

the red beasty is now at powerzed its having a new gearbox fitted, some niggly oil leaks fettled and a bad misfire diagnosed

turns out the misfire was a fouled plug on cylinder number 1 and she is now running shweeeet !! but ive opted to be better safe than sorry and Jim is fitting a new engine wiring loom , the oil leaks were on the steering resevoir connection and one on the oil cooler, the replacement manual gearbox i bought from Mark is fitted with a spacer from Z1 to shim out the starter motor, just the boost issue to look at wont hold boost past 1.1 bar and the rev meter reading 2000rpm at tickover.

while its there i am going for a new 3 inch exhaust system custom made by Infiniti exhausts as the one that came off apart from the tips which i really really liked , the rest looked like Frankenstien had welded it while he was blootered on whisky wearing a blindfold and using a pogo stick ...the passenger side silencer didnt even have a fastener mounting bracket on it.....i would put some pics up but it would just make me sad knowing what i had paid for it ....

it left Noz with 473 RWBHP 527 at the fly so im hoping to see 500 at the wheels minus the cat and with some extra bost .....go baby go !!!!

when she is finished i will post up some pics and enjoy .............finally !!!

The VG does NOT require 1000 miles of soft running. It is a modern engine with tight tolerances as standard.

I would also add that Nissan took all Z32 TT cars destined for Europe straight off the assembly line and put through them

an additional 50 minute cycle on a high speed dynamometer which included a spell at the maximum speed of 155mph.

Project 1547 - Out of the Blue

She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went - Simply irresistible.

Who drives their car like a saint when you've just spent thousands of pounds on performance upgrades, the car should of been far more capable.

I think there is a mis conception between a power run on a random dyno, vs a mapping session.

A power run, on a new setup, would be disastrous as most likely the chip will not be reflective of the modifications.

A mapping session, based on a dyno, is the safest and quickest way to break an engine in. Varying loads across the rpm range under safe conditions before doing the power runs. This is far more effective than several 100 miles at constant rpm on motorways.

I have taken several new builds straight to the dyno as soon as possible, often with only a handful of miles completed to ensure no leaks.

im not pointing fingers of blame other than at myself for not considering all options i just wanted the car done and running ...the pics of teh rebuild done by Jeff gave no concerns to me ...i was happy

its unfortunate that after 500 miles its let go down to massive over fueling and a Chip related issue which has been teh route cause ..there are no come backs financially or neither am i looking for them ..if it was within a year and 500 miles yes i would be banging on doors and banging heads against walls ..buts its 3 years on ...and its in my opinion sadly just one of those things ..lessons learnt ....Noz had major issues trying to get it right and he did a great job ...the car was a monster very quick even with all its unknown issues .....things just went sour .....its now being re-built by a true pro a gent to do buisness with and yes NOZ wil be mapping my car again once its built

watch this space ...i would ask that no one aportions blame to anyone ,,just learn from my mistakes ..its zedding pure and simple

Most definitely Steve. You've had a taste of what it can do, time for the main course :D

So do you need to run a car engine in before a map session? I was told to run for about a 1000 miles, not drive like a vicar but not heavy footed. Then fresh oil and oil filter..

Not heating the flames, just simply confused from the several different comments...

I think the thing with running it in on a dyno is that the dyno is a controlled environment. You do need to load the engine when you're running it in.
