"You picked a fine time to leave me, Loose Wheel!" - Mondo's new Zed.

Yesterday saw me head down to Kent to pick up my new Shortie! :D I got on the motorway to come back home about 4pm.

At 9pm, I was safely tucked away... on the hard shoulder of the A1(M) near York with a grand total of 1 wheelnut holding my rear passenger wheel on!!! The other 4 studs decided to shear off while I was in the outside lane - there was an almighty bang, the back-end of the car went completely loose so I had no choice but to dive for the shoulder! :(

The recovery truck arrived at 11pm and I slowly edged my new tripod onto the flatbed, before we headed off back to mine.

Spoke to Mr F this morning and he's ordered me 10 new rear studs, so my new car is currently undrivable. Seems it had cheap slot-on spacers on the back, no spigot rings and the end result was 4 wheelstuds missing.

Gotta love Zeds, eh...?!

I know, Gary! I think I'm leaning towards the 99 Spec... but then I look at her and think the 89 Spec with that little lip really looks good...

89 front with a stillen lip would be on my list:beta1:

Here's my quandary: I love the OEM styling of these cars. Even the 89 Spec overbite. That's why I was looking for an unmolested Shortie, so I could keep it "standard"...

But the 99 Spec bumper is an OEM one and it's the "upgrade" to the original styling of the car. So I wouldn't be deviating from OEM (really) if I fitted it. :)

BUT! I can't decide whether to keep her looking "period" as she's a 1992 car. Or give her an updated face!

If you give her an updated face don't you need an updated tail as well ?

Meaning no disrespect to anyone here, but neither of the later spoilers do much for me, Tony! Of the OEM choices, the 89 Spec rear (for me, at least) is the only option. :)

I think many on here will agree that Nissan got the styling just right on the 1st attempt and many, myself included think the 89 spec front bumper is a better look.

Just because Nissan gave the car a face lift, doesn't mean its a better look. I'm sure many manufacturers have made face lifts over the years and many have been questionable. They have to do things like this to refresh the buying publics interest in an aging model, but again it doesn't make them better, just different.

I do like the 99 spec look, but simply prefer the original.

+1:)

I really like the 99 spec bumper. I always prefer the 89 spec lip spoiler, its just better than the later one imo

Yep, me too. When my first Z was written off/rebuilt, "everybody said" use 99 spec front bumper. But the original style makes for a sharper, flatter look. I always think great white shark vs whale shark. Here's my Series 6 and old Series 3 side by side

I think the "wide mouth frog" look of the 99 spec was in part inspired by the Supra at the time and was, then, the "newer look" in Japan.

Rear spoilers I am less concerned about. OEM are top of the heap and I think the Series 1/2 shades it over the later ones. But then I had a S3 and never wanted to change it :)

But here I am with a genuine Series 6 wide mouth frog and no spoiler :D

I think this could be my way forward... :)

A small change today, but a nice one (I think). I wanted something a little different to either the OEM red or the clear side markers, so I ordered a smoked pair from the US of A. :)

They've been sat doing nothing for a couple of weeks so I decided to get them fitted and wired in today.

Today I decided to take a couple of hours for myself and, remembering that the rear trims in my car had been sprayed silver by the previous owner and looked lousy, I decided to strip them out and see if I couldn't "cheer them up" a little...

So I finally got around to using the deep red/burgundy Alcantara I bought for the job... et voila:

Quite a tricky cover to make, truth be told. But I think the end result looks pretty smart :thumbup1:

Were you not tempted to put in a Z or a 300ZX on this Great Mondo, same colour as your stitching ?

God no! Keep logos off seats, especially on old cars! Looks great as it is - minimalist is best! :)

Or are you saving that for the seats ?

Nope. The only logo that'll be going on the upholstery is the "Recaro" emblems on the seats.

Less is more for me :)

That colour will suit your silver Z well Si :thumbup1:

Cheers Gary - it should work well with the leather I've got set aside for the seats :thumbup1:

So much nicer than leather IMO...I'm hankering for a retrim!

"I do you nice deal!!"
