You shot down the whole thread with your first comment! So don't know why you said that!

Do you remember saying this? ;)

so who cares what there worth nowdays it really does not matter anymore.

you have taken it out of context. i wasn't shooting the whole thread dowa atall. if you read the whole thing ! what i ment is does it really matter what the value is. it was a point to consider. if you enjoy the car then it does not really matter if it has a low value

Edited by dan300zx

If you intend to keep your car until it goes for scrap or you die then no it doesn't matter. There are reasons to know a value of a car such as agreed insurance value, buying or selling and as there are so few of these cars on the road now and the quality is so different from car to car that a thread like this is the only way to find out what your car is worth by asking people who know the model inside out.

But this isn't what the discussion is about.

I am happy what ever as mine WITH the veilside kit and work done has been valued at £10,000 for insurance purposes............

Question is....... will removing the bodykit actually devalue my car for the insurance value??

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

For what it's worth, I personally think values are on the up. At least, advertised prices are.

It might be that 'average' prices are higher as has already been discussed, due to more and more of the less cared for examples failing mots due to rot etc. Also a lot more 'non trade' breakers are seizing opportunities to buy 'breakers', thus less are kept on the road. And why not? Everyone is entitled to make a living, and if parts from these cars keep several others on the road then surely it's a good thing.

All of those on here with nice, well cared examples have nothing to worry about. I doubt it will cost you anything in depreciation over the coming years. And if running cost are covered by a slight increase in prices then happy days. Effectively you have 'free' motoring. Normally it's only those who can afford BMW CSL's, Porsche gt3's etc who enjoy such a privilege. Oh and series1 Lotus Elise's are also offering dead cert residuals :)

Daffy.

It doesn't matter what any of your cars are worth... Mine will always be the best

i think a car is only worth what you can get for it . but that said there is a general price range dif in the models and Si has just about nailed it in thread 16 but only needs to up the whole average about 30%. for todays prices. i know that intodays market you can grab yourself a bargain, and theres a few out there to be had. at the same time theres a lot of dogs with fleas as i call it. but if you have an amaculate car inside and out then in todays world with the age of them that would not have come cheap to get it to that stage.also just to have a sound car that has no rot and a sound engine with non smoke rattles and sound tubs if you have them and all the ness sevices and belts ect in place is not cheap also. then i think eraspective if you have a body kit on or a standed car . to keep these car in near perfect form is a 2.5 k respray as well. then you have to keep her clean . ive now picked up some chips at the front and thinking i might have to respray the front valance cas i have two chips in it and its enoying. but then if you then got all of the obove and the start to dress up the engine bay and no matter what you do keep it clean and what ever you do do it right, then its got to demand respect and have to hold a value. but that said if you get someone to through on a kit from two feet away and lob on some tasteless gagets that get bolted on the interia that ruines the classic looks, and you have to cut up the interia to make somthing fit, and looks tacky then. but that said beauty is in the eye of the beholder. i think on the whole the 300zx price are on the up. long live the Zed. and lets get the prices were they should be.

The very same! I remember when a rattle can painted rotter came up for sale for a similar price and I just couldn't comprehend the price tag. I will happily hand over good money for a top quality Z32, but what I consider top quality Z32s are few and far between.

Here's how I see basic pricing structure on Z32s, these could be modified, but not 'Max Power' type monstrosities - this is irrespective of bodystyle as good examples of SWB and LWB models don't seem to vary all that much, similarly with UK vs JDM models, however an immaculate UK car is sought after, but very very rarely come up for sale as there are hardly any about.

Tatty NA : £500 - £750

Average NA : £750 - £1200

Clean NA : £1200 - £2000

Immaculate NA : £2000 upward to about £3,000

Tatty TT auto: £1000 - 1200

Tatty TT manual : £1200 - £1500

Average TT auto: £1200 - £1750

Average TT manual : £1500 - £2000

Clean TT auto : £1750 - £3,000

Clean TT Manual : £2,000 - £3,500

Immaculate TT Auto : £3,000 - £4,000 (almost non-existent)**

Immaculate TT Manual : £3,500 - £5,000 + (almost non existent)**

Convertibles generally sit around the £3,500 - £4,000 mark

** denotes individual merits of examples from specification to quality of paintwork, body and specialist vehicles like Pentroof and M30Z type examples which are worth considerably more. Perfect examples have no reason for not going over the £5k mark (Terry's car when complete for example should be work around the £6k mark), but generally those are not these OTT examples styled on airfix kits, irrespective of how much work and effort went into it. Typically the market and general public alike, prefer the car in its original format as a visual piece. Good mechanical enhancements generally make the Z far more sellable over bodykits, silly spoilers and crazy paint.

So Verts are how much? I think the prices have now gone threw the roof.

advertising something for 8.5k doesn't mean it'll sell Gaz. At least not at that price! The 'vert that sold on here recently is a far more realistic example.

Daffy.

£8.5k!!!! It's pretty clean, not immaculate but clean. £6k maybe but 8 is very strong for a NA auto regardless of it's roof or lack of one.

A member on here just sold a really nice one for 3.5k. The one Sudesh sold was similar money. At least the seller is accepting offers lol

The one Sudesh had was very nice especially with the new hood.

Indeed, and new leather. That's one of the ones that got away unfortunately

Think the guy who bought it was on here for a bit. Might be wrong though.

Its a shame that Zeds have not enjoyed the financial appreciation that other makes/models of similar era have enjoyed. They are by far the best looking car amongst them and thats from any angle when viewed, their damn quick even in standard trim and with a few basic mods can be greatly improved. Sadly l think the image is tarnished by running costs including maintenance and repairs, which when in the hands of a person struggling to pay the insurance on it let alone maintaining it, then some sort of mechanical failure is bound to happen. This leads to bad mouthing of the car regarding reliabilty. If prices were £2k to £3k higher, it would perhaps keep them out of reach of the shoestring mob and they would gain a better reputation.

^^^^ So true! Buying these cars is the cheap and easy part. Making them and keeping them nice isn't.

You really shouldn't try to run one of these on a tight budget, sure its possible, but its not likely to end up a nice example. Spend the money wisely, where its needed on keeping the running gear and bodywork healthy rather than loads of unnecessary bling and skimping on the essentials.

Wise words indeed.

Our cars get massively undersold. Why are they 3000 rather than 6000. Surely if we just all set the bar higher it would come up to meet us. Add 2 grand to funk si's list up above and don't take a penny less.

It baffles me the way they change hands at 2.5 to 4 grand. When ratty Supras with a scatterung of dodgy mods and 120'000 miles are 6 grand! It is ridiculous.

I'm gonna start this trend. My car cost 3 grand, it could be sold for 6500 and is insured for 10.
