I've had the roof off the zed a couple of times this week and noticed that 60mph is pretty much the most I can go without the buffeting blowing my ear drums to bits, don't remember my last zed being like that.

It's a 1996 model and doesn't have the pop up deflectors fitted, do these make that much difference?? Why did nissan drop them if so?

They make a huge difference IMO. When I had my car back from the paint shop, I drove round without them for a few weeks as I'd missplaced them. 70 made that horrible buffeting you get on older sunroof equipped cars. I did find the,.and refitted them and glad that I did.

I did a 7hr non-stop drive to Toulouse after that at 80+ with the t-tops off and no buffeting.

Nissan removed for cost cutting, but I feel these are essential parts. Refitting would be difficult as you'd not only have to drill, but you'd also need to weld in some captive nuts.

In my experience the pop up deflectors make it worse! anyone who has them fitted next time you drive with the targa`s out try pulling the deflector down whilst driving with just your finger so not to make any additional buffeting and the noise gets less.:excl:

I've done a few experiments and that is the case at slower speeds, but higher cruising speeds, it's awful and if you pull down the deflector at motorway speeds, it's as the OP described.

Have to disagree, have spent more time in various zeds than most and speeds up to 60 mph the effect of them been up is worse, after this speed the typical combinations of engine exhaust and road noise make the buffeting noise inconsequential, what`s more after been on a 120 miles journey down the M6 from Blackpool with the roof out at consistent motorway speed, when we finally stopped at the toll booth on the M6 toll our ears were in a state of shut down, everything sounded muffled and dull, never subjected myself to that again!! my view is if you have not got them do not bother fitting them, I soon after disabled mine and was much happier.

I always found that my passengers seat belt started to rattle about at high speeds with the roof of but have never done long distances or Motorways as the buffeting is to much to live with and I have the pop up wind deflectors.

100% agree the seat belt flapping thing if no passenger on board, the madness for me was Lynda`s BMW 330 csi convertible with a small wind deflector behind the seats completely buffet free even at motorway speeds, no flapping belts BUT take this little deflector thing out the back and oh my gosh no conversation possible with the passenger and ear bleeding buffeting, the deflector was a £250 option which I think should of been fitted as standard!

Wind your windows! lol

I like not being able to hear my passenger sometimes

I hear you there, the passenger moans more with the roof off though. It's too windy, my hair goes everywhere, etc etc

I don't think I will bother to retro fit any deflectors then, going off topic a bit now but a strange thing happened last night.

Went out to move zed up the drive last night to make room for friends cars as we were having a bit of do at home, which today I'm regretting and I'm never gonna drink again! Car started with a flick of the key as usual moved forward about 20feet and switched off, but engine didn't shut off straight away it gradually petered out over a period of about 5 seconds.

Never done this before and I restarted engine let idle for a minute or so then it shut off as normal.

Anyone experienced this? No timers fitted and car is factory standard. 96 NA auto.

It seemed like it shut down one cylinder at a time, very strange.

Yes, a very well though out feature. I also like the visual deflector that stops some passengers from seeing what speed you’re traveling at. “No dear, these older cars always seem faster than their actually moving”

Still noisy haha. Interest thread though.

My blue car has the wind deflecters but only one pops up by itself lol

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

Lubricating oil on the metal pivots will fix that.
One of my cars, the springs rusted solid

I'm just being lazy really as I never have the roof off.

Mine aren't rusted, just a bit stiff fortunately

I love having the roof off. I take it off even for the 7 minute drive home from work sometimes!

I always have roof off, windows down and dont notice anything really. Maybe as the roof is off I expect it to be louder and windy?

Much the same, I can only manage about 100km/h before the buffeting becomes deafening. I've noticed it's actually worse if you leave the windows up.

No wind deflectors on mine, either - can someone with deflectors comment?

I found around 120 in the vert, the stereo ran out of power
