Been busy the past few days building a carport. Really pleased to finally have the zed out of the rain. & I've got a place to hang some of the signs & license plates I've picked up on my travels. My wife thinks the side of the house now looks like a scrapyard, which is good cus that was the look I was going for . Got a set of traffic lights to go up aswel. Just got a few bits to do to finish it all off.

Nice work Tom it makes a big difference to get a roof over the car.

Absolutely. I would love a garage but this will do for now. Did it all for £70 so well worth it.

Great work Tom! I want to do this when I get moved. Love the old American plates too, got any old old ones?

Looking good! Not much work needed to make a full garage really, back Doors a few infils and some strip lights and the Wife won't see you again ;)

Not sure on the age of them. I've got one from California that must be quite old, got family over there so they keep them for me when they change them. It's the 5th plate from the left on the last picture.

I will be adding to it over time so the wife won't notice it turning into a proper garage. Although if I said she won't see me she'd probably agree to it anyway:lol:

Nice work!

I have about 30 US plates from a range of states, love them. Usually manage to bring one back each time I'm over there.

BTW, the oldest plate you have there is the blue with yellow writing, I can't tell from the pic, but I think it's California plate from around the 70s. All the others are quite recent.

Yeh that's the one I thought was quite old. Must be from when the family first moved to San Francisco.

70 quid!!!! Were did you get the materials from? Im thinking of doing similar in front of my garage?

I got the roof for free as I took an old conservatory down. So just the wood & the bolt down anchors for the posts. It was quite windy last night & it's still standing so I'm happy!

Just noticed the yellow one on the far right next to what I think is an Ohio plate. What's the yellow one? Only ones I can think of are either an old Wyoming or California licence plate.

It's not a US plate, it's from Aruba & second from the left is St Martin in the Caribbean. Got them while on a cruise a few years ago.

& the one next to it is Idaho, 'famous potatoes' written on the bottom.

Oh right. Cool. The one red/white/blue one from that distance is identical to the Ohio plate. I really like US plates. So much more interesting than the plastic yellow shite we have to stick on our cars. I hope that one day, with UK legislation, we can at least start using white plates on the rear of our cars!

Well you have me hooked and i'm now planning the same for the side of my house !

Great! It's somewhere dry to work aswel. Just tell the wife she can dry her washing under it & she'll be happy.

I like the way you don't need front plates in the US. Wish it was the same here, it makes front bumpers look crap, especially the aftermarket ones.

& you're right the ohio & Idaho plates are the same colour

looks spot on that Tom..great job:) Did,nt know you were into your US plates mate..ive got about 100 in the attic including from every state in the USA. Ime sure i could donate a couple to your collection;). BTW i hoped you checked your gutter joints above the carport on the main roof as there going to be a right tzzat to fix iff they start leaking in the future:w00t:

You do in a lot of states actually, the majority of states require a front plate, I think only about 20 states don't require one.

That must be why all the hire cars we've had had them on, I was thinking about taking them off aswel, good job I didn't.

Haha! Don't do it in California, the state troopers will hand your ass to you!

Thanks Bri, & any donated plates would be much appreciated. I collect all sorts mate but signs & plates are my favourite. There's no guttering above as it's a gable end but the barge boards are original, in good condition though. It was the first thing my dad said aswel,
