I want to let you all know that I have been looking at some possible area changes this weekend. I am considering merging some lesser patronised and represented areas, with others that are (perhaps) more active - in the effort to try and encourage more regional meets.

 

Consequently your area has come to my attention as you have been without an REO for some time. It is a similar situation in Avon/Somerset/Gloucs; since Murt sold up and effectively "left" his REO position. I am thinking of merging the two areas under the heading "South West" and would like to gauge your thoughts - and whether anyone would like to take on the role of REO for the new "South West" area; and given the size of the new area, 2 joint REOs would be equally acceptable.

 

Let me know what you all think. Hopefully we can improve things for everyone's benefit, moving into 2014!!

Hi Richard, I can appreciate where you're coming from and in principle, I agree. However, in reality, I don't think merging such a vast and sparsely populated area would work. There is very very little Z32 ownership much south of Bristol until you get to 2hours south and to Plymouth. There are pockets in Devon and Cornwall, but very little in between. History has proven regular joint meetings between northern Somerset + Bristol and Gloucestershire areas with Devon and Cornwall members have been unsuccessful. I think if you were to have joint REOs, then you might as well have 2 areas?

 

These are just my thoughts on A:knowing the area very well due to business and B: having been a Z owner for so long.

I'll second that.

This is how it was setup originally when I was REO. It also included Wiltshire, which has since been moved to South central.

 

Although it is such a large region that you have to alternate meet locations between the North and South to try and cater for all.
