As stated in the title I was looking for help regarding my De-cat situation

Purchased a Japspeed decat for my JDN NA online, came yesterday, took it to the garage to be fitted today,

And long story short they couldn't do it.

They put it down to there being no holes in the de-cat for the lambda sensors and also the EGR (I think they said not 100% sure) would also cause a right problem and would take quite a while to take out to fit the decat pipes

So I Was wondering did anyone else have this problem? or has anyone fitted de-cat pipes themselves and found it easy/hard?

Help would be greatly appriciated, I have a couple of bad pictures below that show the lambda sensors and egr i think

The Lamba sensors are in the Manifold on an NA, not in the decat pipes. They may have confused the cat temp light sensor for the Lamba sensor. This is not required without a cat.

The AIV pipes are in the original cat pipe, but you can just block these off. They are not required.

There are no lambda sensors in the cats.

Those are post cat temp sensors. You can just cut the wires and tuck them out of sight

If your garage was any good, they notice the lambda sensors are fitted to the manifolds.

Yowser beat me to it.

Also if your car is or was an auto then the drivers side pipe will need some thumping with a lump hammer on the angled turn to make it fit.

Na its a manual so thats good, and you confirmed my thoughts that they were a tad clueless

Thanks

so you don't need the temp sensors any more ? you say cut them off will that not throw a fault code ?

They are not connected to the ECU, just the dashboard light. Don't cut the wires, just push them back up through the floor holes and leave them under the carpet. Obviously block the hole with a new grommet.

I see thanks

It's a tight squeeze but can be done.

Yes is the short answer, I won't pretend it's easy though. You can access the actual valve but it will still be fiddly, there is also the two pipes going to the underside if the plenum. Have you purchased a delete kit for the egr yet?

no havent got a delete kit yet, im doing a auto to manual swap so i thought id do all the other mods at the same time

Sounds good to me, be prepared though manual conversions are pretty time consuming. It's not that it's difficult or complex Theres just a fair bit of hoofing about to do.

No really any point mate it's a fairly straight forward bolt up affair. Why, are you are struggling?

Just struggling on accessing the top two elbow nuts by the turbo

pass side is easy, take out batt and your there. Drivers side is better going from the top too ive found with a extra long 3/8 ratchet but be warned to use a 6 sided socket and not a 12 point because iff you slip on the elbo nuts and take the nut edges off you might as well sell the decats till the motor comes out:wink:

not to hijack but i took my decats to a local garage and at first he thought it was a simple swap and bolt but then he saw the down pipes he said he wouldnt be able to to do just the decats and the carried on to say that the cost would start off at 300 and would increase etc ... i kindly said no thanks!

can the EGR be removed with both the engine & box in situ but with the plenum removed ? Got the plenum off at the mo and was wondering if it was poss to remove EGR at this stage.

yes simply but have plenty of band aids ready:laugh:...and i persume you mean everything including the main valve body on the back of motor.

If you can't get it out the plenum off you won't be getting it out till the engine has to come out haha. Really shouldn't be that bad if your reasonable spanner savy.

I would be very reluctant to decat a car these days as it has now been included in the MoT and even older cars are now included in the testers vehicle list. If the engine has not under gone a mechanical refresh recently the emissions and hydrocarbons could be well over the limit and thus fail the test. This is also going to affect cars fittedwithnon standard kit like larger injectors, larger turbos and ECU chips. Prior to now these cars were classed and tested as 'classics' and emissions not included. This has now changed.
