If I wanted to get one of these done, who would I speak to and how much would it cost.

Just looking at a standard rebuild as I don't know the history of the gearbox as it's a conversion that was done by

SE a good few years ago.

Would like a drop off and pick up service tbh. CBA with taking it out myself then refitting it. But if it saves LOADS then will do it lol

I can't remember exact figures, but I was recently quoted close to £1000.

It works out cheaper to by a 2nd hand box.

really Jesus. Yes it certainly would. But it's the history you don't know, and a lot go with the conversion kits. Will have a look about and see what's available.

Thanks for the reply.

whats up with your box mate??? gearbox internals very very rarely all fail at once and normaly can be fixed by replacing a noisy bearing or two...worn dog or a mesh ring. Either way i see a grand £££ working out a bit on the high side for repair costs.

Not sure TBH, the gear change is HEAVY as in it takes some effort to move the gear stick between changes and I noticed a noise from 2nd last night I the way home, not a nice noise, but only under normal driving, under acceleration it's not noticeable, same with 4th but not as loud. I put my hand over the tunnel as I was driving as the gear gainer is not secured and it sea to dull the noise a little.

The noise doesn't seam to be coming from the gear box though. Almost like a metallic air noise? If that makes any sense?????

The problem with 2nd and 4th will likely be the lower rubber shift boot popping off.

Mine was exactly the same. Remove the centre trim, and you'll see the lower boot.

Your symptoms are exactly the same as I had. I ended up glueing the lower one in place to stop it popping off. My middle boot also had a tear in, which I rubber glued together.

Interesting find, it even lists the 300zx TT as a correct model. I wonder how much of a big job it is the replace this kit?

I seem to remember that some skylines use a very similar gearbox, the internals esp. Albeit with different bell housings. So that may be worth investigating.

On a more positive note, change the gaiters and the fluid with some redline mt90 and I bet it goes away.

Ok so today I finally got round to checking this out.

Firstly the leather gear gaiter just cam off.. Wasn't secured at all. So took it off and out the way. Next the rubber gear gaiter, I could just move that so assume that that it part of the problem. When I did move it out the way I could see the road underneath! Should there be something else there? Or is that right? I recall Jeff saying something about a bolt on a plate, but with nothing under the rubber boot I wasn't quiet sure to what he was referring to, any more advise please

Yeah, once the bottom rubber is out of the way you will see the road through the hole. That's why you get a noise when they're split, as there's nothing else stopping it. Don't know what bolt Jeff meant but the common problem is the one holding the gear lever pivot to the fork. They tend to get overtightened which can crush the bushes and cause the gear changes to be stiff.

Gear change seams to have eased up, think it was just though not being used for a year.

Checked the boot, no splits, so will try sealing it to the metal plate with silicone or something
