Had a silver 300zx N/A a couple of years back, but exchanged it for a GTO. Have just brought a blue convertable which I am in the process of putting back on the road. Shame summer has just finished!!

Many thanks, yes it is, not bad at all. It has a nice new roof to put on, should look very nice when done and the engine just purrs.

GTO was not bad at all, unfortunately not the turbo, very similar to the 300 in many aspects but a little smaller inside the car. To be honest I like the 300 better and so does my wife. But I think if you like Japanese sports cars you have got to give it a go. I have also got a NA1 NSX which is a different kettle of fish.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Great car you have purchased, get some pics and progress reports up.

I have to admit I don't like the NSX I know that's an unpopular opinion but I just don't like them.

Well my lovely convertable is still sat on the driveway waiting to be driven!! The car as some of you are aware was imported into Southern Ireland in 2009 then brought by a gentleman in Northern Ireland, the car though was never registered by either people. Well I thought no problem, I actually received the car from Northern Ireland on the 9 Sept 2013 and still have not manged to get it registered. Took it to my mates garage to get a rear fog light fitted and a couple of electrical problems sorted but no great issues and it then sailed through the MOT (my mate reckons the underneath is "like a show car").

It took the DVLA 4 weeks to send the registration paperwork to me, then 2 weeks to reject it as I needed some paperwork from Costums and Excise, Cutoms and Excise who where excellent I received the paperwork from them in 3 days. Sent the paperwork to them after spending 15mins talking to one of their staff on the phone to try and make sure I filled it out correctly, wrong they sent it back to me 3 weeks later saying they wanted more details. So rung them up and asked them to clarify what exactly they required, the person then said I had been sent the wrong form, wonderful!! So new form downloaded, completed and return to Custom and Excise, so now waiting for the next saga!!!

Sad to hear all this messing around with registering your car. They sound not to be very helpful but you should have it sorted soon and will be well worth the wait. If you do need more help with registering your car then have a chat with Gio here as he has gone down the same route as you.

Sure, pm me if you need to. I imported mine from Sudesh and sounds as if came the same route. The paperwork went through smoothly, hopefully yours will too now.

Cheers Gary, I will see what response I get next. Cannot believe the hoops you have to go through.

Cheers Gio, I might just hold you to that. Sudesh has been great, everytime I have needed something he has been straight there!!

Yes, he's a good bloke. Driveway's too short for a proper test drive tho' :)

Had a quick delve in the files and they have changed the guide on the web but should be much the same https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/overview

For my V55/5 DVLA Application for first tax disc and registration, I needed:

  1. valid documentation confirming the vehicle keeper's name and address (can't remember - passport? Driving licence?)
  2. the duty payable (cheque)
  3. valid insurance cert
  4. customs form (VAT 414 Motor vehicles brough into the UK from within the EC)
  5. and there was a form proving VAT had been paid on the import into Republic of Ireland (can't remember where I got that, think Sudesh gave it to me).

Didn't need SVA or anything like that. Then just rolled up at Birmingham DVLA office conveniently close to Zedworld, handed it all in and waited.

I'll double check the files whenI get home tonight. It was actually much simpler than I worried about.

Cheers
