Ive had 5 zeds in the past including my current one...1st was a manual in 2001 then 3 auto,s and now my latest S2 manual.Ive always been the 1st to jump on stage and fly the flag for the slush boxes but after a good run tonight in my latest manny i can honestly say they are a complete diferent driving experience and bring the car alive like you would,nt believe.Far more sure footed in to bends and out the other side and the power delivery is like night and day...fantastic:thumbup1: For anyone thinking of getting rid of the Auto and converting or changing car then my advice would be to do it and re-kindle the love for these great cars as they were meant to be...

Having had a manual conversion on my zed I always say that a manual box lets you appeciate just how much raw power there is in a TT, but perversly, it makes you realise just how good the ato box is at delivering it smoothly and seamlessly

yea i agree

"more sure footed into bends" is that because you get more engine braking or can balance the cars weight on the throttle better? I've only driven auto kia ceeds and stuff lol. I wanted a look out in si mondos auto but he converted it straight away before I could ask him.

You know me so well.....:lol::lol:

I sort of miss the kickdown, probably being lazy lol, but it does handle better and more controllable, im pleased i did the conversion though.

Having converted I can honestly say a z32 with an auto box is a z32 wasted. The autobox maks the car feel heavy, sloppy and removes confidence in handling. Going manual instantly improves your confidence and the cars response, it allows you to know the savagery it's capable of. Conversely though, the auto is smooth as glass. Even on snow I could pull away without drama. I would love an automatic daily, changing great in traffic gets tiresome. My auto did have a habit of changing down when the wheels were spinning which was a bit scared and not helpfull. In its finial days it would struggle to make up its mind which gear to select before finally struggling to put any power down with what I can only describe as clutch slip for want of a better word. Going manual turnt my car from a placid rocket into a hooligan fighter jet.

Mines an auto, don't dislike it enough to go through the hassle of a conversion, and I drive for a living so having a nice chilled out cruise is nice.

When the auto box does go pete tong then I will replace with a manual :)

I've only ever driven my other halfs BMW 325 auto. I have to drive it with my foot stuck under the seat and my hand on my head to stop me changing gear. Not much fun really!! Although I do enjoy kick down even if I get moaned at for using all the petrol

I remember the day I dropped mine off at zedworld for its conversion and remap.......and I remember picking it up a couple of weeks later and thinking OMFG as I drove it out of the industrial estate. What a transformation it now drives like it should and the sound it makes through the mongoose when you pull it down from speed through the gears is just horny.

I've had a manual n/a and my auto TT.

The auto is great but it just doesn't feel as sporty as the manual.

If I had the choice, I'd go back to the manual n/a just for the pure grin factor the manual delivered ever time you drive it.

If I could ever afford to get a manual box fitted in my TT then I would jump at the chance! I would possibly even cut my nuts off via a thousand paper cuts for a manual conversion!

I have too much torque for a RWD Automatic car with no traction control. Way too much torque :D

You say that like its a bad thing:devil2:

If me and my mate can successfully convert to a manual, anyone can!

I just find autoboxes in any car completely and utterly uninvolving. That doesn't mean to say I don't like them, for a daily driver cruise machine, they're wonderful as they do take the stress out of driving, in the same way as cruise control does, BUT, they leave you disconnected and in a sports car, that's not where you want to be. I've owned a few auto cars and all of my father's cars have been autos, so I am pretty well used to them and I do like them. I've also driven plenty of auto Z32s; the Z32 I use in the US is an auto.

Or do you have too much torque for that box these days lol. Mine had about as much ability to transfer the power as a bowl of porridge towards the end.
