Standard Nissan hoses are of high quality and last well.

I have red silicone hoses bought from a little man in a big factory in China

I cant comment yet on the quality or the longevity of them as the car has only ben built/running for 18 months and covered less than 2000 miles

The last 2 times I put silicon (SFS) hoses for coolant on a car they leaked and required additional tightening of the clamps. Silicone sucks for coolant I would stick to stock. Is always a better fit but doesn't look nice.

Bit of a mixed bag really, I've asked mr.f for a price on the top hose as that's the one which is leaking at the moment

I've got silicone from china, no problems other tan having to trim it down, that's more to do with my radiator though. Been on there 3+ years.

I think the real answer is anything is better than 20+ year old rubber.

I've got silicon SFS ones too. Haven't had a problem so far but I really should have gone for the lower hard pipe section, just for piece of mind. I don't want to suffer from the suction pinch that you can get from old/weaker pipe.

Aren't the metal lower pipes quite expensive? Can you get a metal upper pipe?

ive found sfs hoses fine if used with a genuine jubilee clamp that is torqued to the correct 7.9NM ultimate capacity for a 45-60mm item

FYI - I have a KOYO radiator. Do I need to think about cutting the top pipe down a bit?

it might sound daft but on some of jubilee clips thats not up to there capacity if your using a 1/4 inch short handle or screwdriver

on the non genuine ones though it would break them lol

 

its poss you might need a trim i had to on mine

Is your rad aftermarket mate? And would it be engine side that I'd trim? That's where the leak is

yes i run a japspeed rad because they are unbeatable value and actually not bad quality

 

be engine side you want to trim so that it makes the rad side fit correctly so its not on the cock so as to speak then fit genuine jubilee clips and tighten and a problem you should have no more but really is worth using a torque wrench as if you over tighten they you damage them and they loose the clamping torque under tighten them and they will maybe still leak

Thanks for the info mate, I didn't know that. I always thought they were better than jubilee clips. But I can't deny that with the jubilee clip not having changed since they were invented years and years ago, they must be more than up to the job. I think the biggest problem is that a lot of people just reuse old rusty ones that are past their best. I'm guilty of that (not on the zed though!) and I've also tightened them to far and broken them.
