As above I have two silly questions which I hope someone will know the specific answers to.

1.How do I wash the oem shagpile floor mats. Ie what can I use to wash them and how?

2.How much shorter is a short shifter? is it even shorter? will it lower the gear stick knob by x amount? Hopefully for the purposes of my ocd the answer is just over an inch lol. (I'm not saying why)

:shifty:

I reckon something like rug doctor solution watered down and a scrubbing sponge would be fine. I'm about to try that myself.

2. The stick is not shorter, just the throw. ie. It will sit the same height as stock, but it require less movement to get it in gear. This also has the effect of requiring more force from you to change gear.

In theory the shorter throw means you can change gear quicker...in practice it can make gear changes more difficult and end up being slower. It will also make any gearbox syncro issues more apparant. A lot of owners go back to the standard shifter after fitting a short-shifter.

Yep, I washed mine in a normal washing machine too. You could use a pressure washer too ;)

I had a feeling that would be the answer. Cheers mate.

I wash my shagpiles in the washing machine at 90 degrees and they come out smelling lovely and looking like new :) my machine has a big drum but I only wash a front and a rear in each load.

Do you use any washing powder etc? Or just a hot water wash.

90 degrees!!!!

Fekk me thats nearly boiling point.

Just use some Areiel liquid or similar and a normal 40degree synthetic wash.

....I'll side with Yowser. Mine is stock with new (stock) shifter bushings and a new OEM gearknob. Over the years I have driven Zs with various different shifters and shift knobs and NOTHING matches the stock feel. I know people think all I ever like is 'stock', my Z is very far from stock, but Nissan really go the 'throw' and the 'weight' of the shifter spot-on. I don't really like short shifters. They lose the fluidity of the stock shifter.

Il explain why I was thinking about the short shifter. I'm very happy with the feel of stock as its pretty much all new. Problem is I haven't got the oem gear knob. This leaves an inch gap between the aftermarket gear knob and gaiter, this looks shit. Thought I could kill two birds and save some cash as the oem knob is a rip. circa £70

2 secs I'll ask the wife!

Hehe, yup deffo 90 degrees, and yes she used washing powder and a nice fragrant fabric softener to make them smell nice. It's a long lasting air freshener that makes getting in the zed a similar experience to climbing into a bed with freshly washed sheets!!

Just put mine back to stock shifter last weekend, just couldn't get on with it.

Messed up the synchro slightly and didn't want to do any further damage.

Personally wouldn't bother as stock is much smoother.

Sadly not Steve - as said, the short shifter does not alter the size of the lever!! TBH, what is the cost difference between the short shift and the OEM knob? Not £70 as that is the cost of the OEM knob - speak to Mike at MJP and see whta he charges for the 99-spec knob. It's probably worth doing that mate!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Short shifter is about £30 rich. I don't really want the 99 spec as its got red stitching. Bit of a rock and a hard place really.

Get an earlier gearknob and have it retrimmed to your own specs... ;)
