what the best way to go on air filter upgrade panel filter of a remove air box and fit cone filter ?

Featured Replies

Cone filter. You need to remove as much restriction as possible in both the intake & exhaust systems with these cars, and indeed any turbocharged vehicle when looking to maximise performance.

ok am fitting cat back exhurst this week so will do cone air filter at the same time. is the standed air box very restrictive ?

i found a cone filter come with a adaptor plate but i found a other cone filter just on its on so i take it you need this adaptor plate to fit a cone filter ???

ok nice one will get it sorted

A'pexi is proven, in tests to have the best flow/filtration for the Z32.

Is that the same test where the HKS filter did bery badly?

I tried in vain to get an apexi in the uk, seems no one stocks them any more, seen them in the states though.

Jeff fitted a JWT pop charger on mine during the manual conversion & with the mongoose exhaust he fitted it works rather well.

any gauze type cone filter being apexi or not is miles better than a foam job...wait till it rains to find out why if your choice is foam:blink:

I hated the Apexi on my S13 years ago. Not used one since. I have twin HKS filters down where the stock intercoolers should be. Been spot on so far. I find K&N M's to be good as well.

Yes... interesting!!!

I fitted an A'pexi a while back following the recommendations here (and sold my old ebay cotton gauze jobbie to Vods); but I have to say I initially thought the car actually ran better on the plain old cotton gauze cone!! And when I collected my car from the garage last Friday following the oil leak, as the mechanic was showing me how he'd fixed the oil cooler hose, he pointed out what a shite state the 'filter was in. Hell, it had only been on the car about 18 months (maybe 8000 miles) and it looked like crap!!!

I'll have it off for a clean this weekend, but (having used them many times before) I have to say that you cannot go wrong with K&N.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Why can I never find the k&n ones for a decent price, I have seen them on sale for like £250! Wtf?

Ditto Steve; K&N kit is, for smoe reason, very expensive for a 300zx..... Which is why the A'Pexi is so popular as it comes in at around £100,

It just made the car really quiet and it seemed slower (this was years & years ago when I only had my butt dyno to go on). Before that I had an eBay special of some description. People at the time thought I was mad. There's a well-known test on the internet that people take as gospel, did some digging years back and it wasn't as unbiased as everyone believes.

You can buy a Z32 MAF adaptor and fit any air filter you wish. I like Green air filters too, got a huge one on the Pulsar which uses a Z32 MAF.

My first aftermarket filter was a Bomz Racing one (probably similar to the ebay special one you're on about Noel :D ) but I've been running an Apexi for ages now and am quite happy with it, although I've not had anything else to compare.

I had a green cotton air filter on my old sunny, tell you what the sunny sounded better and was a second quicker 0-60, goona try and fit the same filter to the 300 tonight

I've used both HKS and Apexi, found the Apexi to be much better, car just drives smoother and seems to respond better.
