Hi guys

300ZX TT SWB

Just thought I'd say hello. Picked up my Z a couple of weeks ago and after a few long-ish runs in it (and plenty of short ones to country pubs while the sun lasts!) I'm firmly of the belief that I have a goody!

Mileage was 64.7k when I bought it and successive MOT certificate show that it had only done 1400m in the last 4 years! More incredibly I have evidence of a Nissan main dealer service at 62k - ten years ago!! The thing looks new in places - the original carpets look perfect; all of the glass seals work properly (tested with jet wash!) and it doesn't even seem to use huge amounts of fuel.

Different kit: stainless zorst (no cat); dump valve; new viscous fan; 18" Blitz wheels; floating Brembo discs all round; AP racing 6-pot calipers on the front; braided brake lines; Nissan SE intercoolers. Stuff that it reputedly has, but that I don't have invoices for: rechip; SE induction system; SE boost - all to be checked when I get ZedWorld to give it an initial audit and possible "to do" list, hopefully soon. It's certainly incredibly quick and very stable.

Initial impressions? Very positive. It actually rides some bumps/undulations better than my sadly written-off Peugeot 406 3l V6 coupe and overall feels incredibly civilized. Pulls up fantastically - as you'd expect and there is an absence of squeaks, rattles, knocks, etc. It'll probably get used quite a bit for the daily commute and it feels ready for it. But mainly it's just for fun!

Just a few pics to finish - sorry about the human blemish in one of them!

Missing pics!

Looks like I cocked up the URL upload - but why can't I edit my post to show them? Seems a bit of a clunky way to welcome a new member...

Welcome to the forum buddy, glad you are enjoying your Zed. Please try the links again, would be nice to see some pics.

Hi Andrew

Now that is a good question!

On the mileage side - all OK: changed at 51.7k But from an elapsed time point of view - worth a thought: it was changed in 2002; 11 years ago!

The maintenance schedule makes no mention of time intervals but any thoughts would be welcome. Certainly one to consider before it goes to the Nordschleife!!

Thanks for getting in touch

Thanks for the quick reply.

Not sure why the host doesn't appear to work on the forum - the link works fine if pasted direct into my browser address bar. I've tried to find a sticky re maximum image sizes, etc - but to no avail. The images were all about 1200x799 - could that be a problem? When I hit the Preview button should the image show up, or does the link just go "live"?

Understood re the subs members/mods editing question - I'll have to become a subs member I think...

Cheers

Dave

im sure the main big services are at 60k and 120k miles so if it was changed at 51.7 id hope they did the small service ie new belts tensioners etc

5 years is a life time of a cam belt

Personally, I would change it out. The cost and grief of having an 11 year old cambelt snap is not worth it. If you do, replace the tensioner at the same

time and thoroughly check the cambelt pulleys.

Hey!

Thanks very much for taking the effort - much appreciated. :thumbup1:

At least it proves that it wasn't the host. I've used countless forums in my time and never had a problem with posting pics before. I'll try again when I get some time.

Cheers

Welcome to the club, Its the host that's not letting you link directly to the files.

And to answer your question only subs members and mods can edit the original posts.

Well; I've had enough fun and good info in the last couple of days so I've just coughed up the necessary! :thumbup1:

A quick - and positive - update!

I had the great fortune to have Jeff at Zedworld change the cambelt (thanks to AndrewG for the note of caution) and give my car the once over. Apart from a thermostat sticking open and a damaged crankshaft pulley the Z passed with flying colours! Nothing else was flagged up and no corrosion anywhere. Jeff also confirmed the vendor's claims that the car had uprated intercoolers and had been rechipped so all in all I'm one happy bunny. The tickover had been the usual 900-1200rpm and that has now apparently settled down to, still, about 800-900 but I can live with that.

Very happy to have met Jeff right at the beginning of my Zed-life but equally sad that he's departing for sunnier climes. But it sounds deserved and I hope that Lynda and he (and the dog!) have a ball in retirement.

Cheers for now. Looking forward to enjoying the Z and hopefully meeting up with some other nutters in the future. Nordschleife here we come...

Deep breath - let's try the photo upload again...
