Last Sunday (30/6/13 - mine is a weekend toy)

JAE 2012 - although I would like to resurrect the Red Lyon meet in my area!!

I think I see where you're going with this Steve; and the thing is, most of us are passionate about our Zs otherwise we would not be here. And whilst we are internet based, we are still a car club; with that one common interest. But being internet based and having this forum does create the online culture that we are all part of. We all have lives/jobs/whatever - so if there was no forum, there would be even less contact between members.

I had a classic Jaguar back in 1994 and was a subbed member of the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club. But I had no internet access then (like most people TBH) so the only contact I had with other members was a poxy news letter every so often, which simply told you about the odd meet.

Then later in the 1990s I had a Mk3 Supra and belonged to the Toyota Enthusuast's Club (again, analogue rather than digital - at the time); so yet again a monthly news letter or magazine told me about meets I might want to attend. Sadly the magazine arrived about 1/2 an hour before the meet; so too late....

And now we are firmly in the digital/online/internet age and any car club worth its salt has an internet forum as well - I also belong to a Mercedes owners' club - and I have to say, it is much the same thing..... Members who are out at work all day get home, log onto a forum and "chat" with other members via a keyboard. That is what the 'web has done to car clubs my friend; not what car clubs are necessarily doing wrong. Those not online will eventually fold; as the sheer cost of producing news letters, magazines etc AND posting them the old fashioned way will simply go bankrupt. As a paid up member of the Zclub, I know it ceased its paper magazine ages ago as it was not economically viable.

I am not saying I agree with the whole "online" or "forum" culture, but that seems to be the way things have evolved and most car clubs have gone with the flow.

And getting back to the reasons why people join car clubs. I joined the Jag club, The TEC, 300zx.co.uk, The Zclub, the Mercedes owners' club for a couple of key reasons - primarily to obtain knowledge, advice and discounted parts/insurance etc., just like many other car club members. I found this place different though; hence I got more involved (carried along if you will) and very quickly became part of the community - so in 10 years of membership I am pleased to be able to give something back now, by serving on the committee.

Yes, there should be more interaction, meeting fellow members and enthusiasts, etc. But when you have an uncontrollable beast like the internet; it just makes it all that bit easier for people to sit at home and chat with fellow club members. It's not right, but it's the way it is..... And to coin a phrase from another song regarding the whole internet thing.... you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!!!

I wasn't actually going to go down that route, although your obviously aware of my feelings. What I wanted to achieve was to get a general feeling of what the average was, get some brains thinking without having to say anything, planting a seed if you will.

I know your in support of anything that improves our club and scene generally, I consider you a very fair sort of chap :D

So getting back on topic, whos using their car and who is sadly isn't.

2 years ago properly and 6 years ago lol

Come Sunday I will be doing about a 5hr coastal trip.

You know me rich I want to progresses and be productive not cause arguments.

I have 37 invites to car related events this year, i represent our forum every time i go to one of these meets, im usually the only 300zx there, we also have a fortnightly local meet and a large cruise every Sunday at Milton Keynes, I daily drive mine, its my family vehicle, Mark Derby helps me out with in between meets for our members at the major attractions around the country, and i pretty much arrange the whole JAE thing which is our yearly Big meet that most people wait for.

Having been behind the scenes on this car meet thing, i have a pretty good understanding of what is involved in getting people in zeds to these meets, and mark will also agree with me here, that we can arrange meets all we like, but getting people too attend once they have their name down, is another kettle of fish, we should of had 30 cars turn up for japshow, yes its not everyone's cup of tea, but as far as i care, its a chance to meet other z32 drivers outside our main meet in September.

Now you say you want to help plant a seed and get people to all band together, which is a nice idea, many have tried, and the reason it usually fails, is because members will say they will attend, but then pull out last minute either due to weather (not many like driving their zed in the rain), due to repairs, due to cost, or due to distance involved in traveling. we own a rare car, we are mainly dotted around the UK and for some, 300miles for just one night or a day, just isnt worth it.

I am off to RGS motor sports tomorrow for a dyno day to help raise awareness for meningitis, i have been formally invited mainly due to my car, it helps bring in other people with other supped up jap vehicles, the last dyno day i went too was for help the hero's and i won highest power out put for the day :)

If anyone wants to come along, it starts at 9am and its at RGS motorsports on the layland industrial estate in wellingborough.

Totally agree with you Ian. People just don't turn up for whatever reason, sadly. You sir are definitely getting yours out there and representing, so cannot be criticized. I don't wish to achieve anything right now but plant a seed to think about, little steps. I know how hard it is. I expect to have probably a third of the people who has said they will, turn up at beaulieu.

2. Not counting our "Xmas night" last September

And it looks like it's going to be next year before I get back out in it

Last drove: before it all went tits up for me in spectacular fashion

Last showed: Trentham Gardens Meet/ Classic Car show(and I'm hoping to make Shugborough classic car show if it is back on the road) totally depending on the folks I am relying on to sort all the mess out

And I hear where you are coming from

I hit lucky with organising Trentham Gardens, and I will certainly try and repeat that success next year (plus try two other events from the same promoters) but at the end of the day it really requires the good will and interest of the car owners and a determination to promote our 300zx marquee. I am totally 100% behind that principle though I am not an REO and soon as I get my car back on the road (bad story no doubt most have read all about it here) I I will be shouting out the 300zx brands loud as I can. Why? Because I love these cars. Simples.

PS Vods you were einvited to Trentham and I know you could not make it - but hopefully next year we can put this event firmly on the club map!

Earlier tonight, went for a meal with the mrs in it :)

Never been to one in the zed :(

I really do get where you're coming from mate, and yes mine been off the road and not been to any meets but I've bought tickets for the bl**dy things but. At let me down :(

We have got japwales down here and has a meeting every month in Cardiff but tbh this seems to have died a death, sorry and don't want to p**s people off but it's the truth :(

So we trying to make this more active.........

A suggestion..... Every REO organises a monthly meet, maybe move it around in their area every month so it doesn't go stale ? But this might spark up a bit of evolvement ?!?!

And this not idle chit chat, I'm very willing to help out in my region, and am sure other people would be in theirs !!

Just an idea :)
