So as we are all here , and own at least one 300ZX , its fair to assume we appreciate the effort put in by the designers of the car.

But lets imagine you were sitting over the designers shoulder as the final draft was just done.

He asked you what is the one thing you would change about the car from a design standpoint.

Be it bodystyling , performance , ease of maintenance etc.

Pick one thing you would change about the car.

For me , it occurred to me last night.

I usually have the car parked in the garage where its out of sight for 6 days a week , but last night i had it parked it outside the house on the driveway.

As i was outside for a quiet cigarette i ended up eyeing the car over and it struck me that whilst the front arches are nice and pronounced , the rears are rather tame. I think the rear axle could have been extended by a couple of inches and the arches made more ....sexy !

Its something they definitely addressed with the 350Z , as it has big muscular arches over both axles.

So whats the one thing you would have changed ??

I know what you mean about the rear arches, for me it would be the engine, I like the vg but its turbo layout is a dick simply providing the car with a na v8 would have yielded the same power without the over complications.

Not a lot if I'm honest - I think Nissan got it right all those years ago; as it still holds its own against many modern cars.... The driving position is great, the seats are still superbly comfortable and all the controls fall naturally to hand.

....But if I'm picky, a V8 would have been nice. A tiptronic 'box for the auto, maybe. Or perhaps a memory function on the seats. The only things (for me) that date the 300zx in comparison to modern equivalant cars, are the lack of today's luxuries such as a multi-media navigation package; or all round parking sensors.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

These things that can be modded, but simple items like: heated auto retracting mirrors, auto interior light dimming on and off with the remote, remote boot popper, and as Richard touched on, a good nav media package with steering controls, but generally not a lot lol.

I know it says change one thing, but most of the above come under electrical

And TBH those things are not difficult to ad after market - so we have the perfect car.... maybe

Haha, nice one...the way you twisted that Graham makes me think you could of been a barrister, if not electrical it comes under Z then :thumbup1:.

There is actually a fix for that defiant wipe .

As the opening post mentioned, it's the rear arches for me. I love wide-arched cars and, having owned a Manta 400 replica and an X-Pack Capri, I think all cars should have big hips!

So I'd have some curves added to the hips. I like the wide arch kit available but I hate the bumpers! To be honest, I'd settle for an extra inch or so either side.

I just think a 300 would look perfect with a little more weight on her hips. :)

V8 or the turbos located up top to save all the engine out every time there's a problem nonsense

I'm gonna be controversial here and say the name. I don't like the term 300ZX, 300Z it should have been!

Yeah maybe. But it's better than fairlady. Makes it sound like a right blouse.

the problem every 300zx owner has come across while owning the car, its to tightly packed under the bonnet, abit more space would give the car a chance 2breath

I would change nothing, I love the Zed especially as mine is 20 years old this year and people still ask about it and appreciate its shape.

it was a really silly idea to have to remove the ballance bar to then remove the coil pack on number 6 just to swap a plug plus the need to remove the small scuttle tray to then remove the battery so it does not get broken when the battery is lifted.

As a car designer myself, I think its a little unacceptable to allow water to pool at the rear screen lower corners.... This should have been strongly argued with the Style department during the development.

The weatherstrip seals are poorly designed all round, definitely not up to todays design standards.

For the modern era, we could have done without the stone-chip, but that was a decision taken at the time.

And an adjustable steering wheel is most definitely up there!
