Right oil but may be down to not enough Running in then 500>1000 for Rings to bed in right

Yes that seems the general consensus.

Not that I have an opinion myself but I was reading an engine build thread on the aus site where they were advocating mapping it immediately after a rebuild. The rings would get de-burred just from start-up and preliminary checks then get it on the dyno for some hard pulls and mapping to bed the engine in, then an oil change:pinch:

How would you guys go about doing the whole process?

??

I wasn't made aware the engine had so little miles on it since it had been built over a year ago, otherwise I would have ran it in myself. The compression test results were taken before the full-load mapping, and luckily I had put on another 50 or so for the cruise & low-load tuning prior to this. I only found out it had done about 200 miles max after I mapped it. I think after the rebuild it went to LakeZ and was subsequently parked up for months.

It came to me with many more issues, but I will let Steve disclose these if he wishes.

I'm going to run the car for another 500 1000 miles or so and take it from there ..the fact its pushing 543 is indicative the build is good , mates skyline is fresh fresh ..zero miles on the rebuild and had been dynoed close on 1000 bhp ...ive been told the bores will not bed in if they have glazed due to over fueling ..I'm prepared to give it a go and see what is what...time will tell if its glazing ...I teapoon of oil down each pot before the pressure test etc ....I'm sure its not all doom and gloom ....:)

I wouldn't worry about that, mine was mapped with less than 5 miles on it. The process of mapping runs it in pretty quickly!

There are indeed various ways of bedding in an engine.

bloody good numbers shame about the compression, good luck with that. what was involved in fitting those turbos? fairly straight forward?

Good result anyway Steve, I'm looking forward to seeing the dyno graph to see how the 1420's spool

the day i got my engine running from a fresh build i went drifting. i ran that engine for 12 months and i openly abused it every day. it was my daily driver and i managed 15,000 miles in that year.

just my 2 pence worth. lol

That engine let you down right? If be pretty peeved if my engine build only lasted me 15k miles...

we all have our own way i just tend to do it in two stages agreed power and engine braking involved in mapping is ideal for breaking rings in i just prefer a half engine limit around 4.5k rpm for few hundred miles on mineral oil before swapping to synthetic and mapping the top end

yeah thats my way ..

spirited runs for 500 at least but not taking it to rpm limit ..

oil change and then higher rpm loads >1k then tune the engine

i know there are many ways or running an engine in but it just comes down to personal preference really

and if your in to rebuilding engines all the time for track/strip use

All sounds awesome mate, I think I need a ride out in it though to make sure its all ok you know, my expert ear etc. Don't want you getting into trouble with it.... :)

Are you in the land of living at the moment?

After biulds i like to keep the motor busy (mid-range) but not under load. drop the 1st oil and filter at 50 mile to get rid of the assembly greases ect then on to a few hundred miles and oil and filter again. The 1st 50 mile filter i split open with a ring cutter...no matter how clean and maticulus you are during the biuld up theres always tiny bits and pieces (none metalic) that find there way to the outside of filter from its journey up from the pan so i like to get them out of the oil circut asap. Then its just RPM biulding and start applying a bit more gentle boost and away we go:wink:
