  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Rained as soon as I left but anyway. Still driving like new. Brakes felt a bit shit, but that's probably just corrosion on the discs from sitting up. Slight chirp in front of the engine at idle.

Where's the new wheels???

OK, quick question to see if I can keep my sanity intact..

Removal if the bottom ball joint on the lower arm..

I've heated and soaked the nut but everytime I try to turn it, the whole ball joint us turning..

So, I puts a ball joint splitter in and hammered it in to place... Still, although stiffer, the whole joint is turning with the nut..

Anyone have an answer to this or am I getting the acetylene out?

On the lighter note, I found the breaker I've got has a full set of bilstein shocks in good working condition..

Still, I've had to work to get the sods off!

Pain in the ass that, I used an impact driver on mine to solve the problem.

Be very careful applying heat to the ball joint, they can explode. I've found that out myself, fortunately the bottom missed me but I lost my hearing for a few minutes and my vision went funny on the explosion side. Won't make that mistake again.

Exploding ball joint? Never had that happen before lol..

I'm going to bin the lower arm as it'll be replaced by the drift works one.. Still not really sure which way to go with the setup really.. Been advised against changing the arms etc but I need to do something to improve the handling and response as it feels sloppy at the moment.

Anyone got any suggestions as I'm kinda getting frustrated..

What's the best setup for a road car that's comfortable, sharpens everything up and improves the handling?

Where's the slop coming from? What do you currently have?

I think for you adjustable lower arms will be a waste of money, they take a fair bit of cushioning out and worse still have a reputation for undoing ruining your alignment. Save your pennies for else where.

My Automatic Transmission was swapped for me by Chrisbasildon........ Absolute Diamond!!!

Chris came round early and just worked so hard, I supplied Tea and Coffee and passed him tools and jacked things up and down.... lol

I now have a working Z............... :clap::clap::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::clap::clap::clap:

Thank you soooooooooo much Chris!!!!!!

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

The steering seems to be a little how can I say it?? Less responsive than desired and both the front and rear end feels a little wobbly.. It's on oem stuff at the moment and just doesn't feel particularly stable.

I have lost the rear end on a few occasions when it really wasn't expected.

Feels a little like it's got a flat sometimes..

That's great news Russ..

Well done Chris, impressive club spirit. :thumbup1:

Muggins here has been at work since 6am today so this evening, as a bit of a treat and to celebrate the fact that the new brakes are finally fitted, I whipped the roof off and headed home. :)

Nice days like today are when the Zed really makes sense!

Polished the z today.

Did not have the chance to take it out for a blast!

Wow, already full summer where you are Art?

Either that or that Hydragea is in desperate need of a dead heading. ;)

Nothing today - as I was at work.....

But over the weekend, I used my Zed each day for all the journeys I had to make.....

Then I (finally) manages to remove the old locking wheel nuts after the key got mislaid a few months back - and replaced them with some nice new ones. This time though, I was sure to record the brand, type and key pattern number; just in case....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

In Folkestone Simon, & yes Stephen they are in need of dead heading.

First time I used clay bar on the bonnet.

Rear subframe bushes ok? I got rid of a lot of wheel spinning when I put spacers on my old zed, you could tell they were shot as the fluid was leaking out.

Btw to remove lower ball joints I've usually had luck with putting a jack underneath the arm and jacking it up slightly so the suspension is pushing down on the joint. Obviously don't do it so far that the car comes off it's stand

To be honest Chris I've not checked those bushes but the mot was done end of February and nothing was mentioned about them? Possibility though, I'll have a look.

I've noticed when I'm driving in a straight line there seems to be some deviation. It's not smooth, but feels almost like a buckled rim or tyre at the front..

I'm going to have the wheels balanced again soon as I'm sure there's a weight come off. At least I can rule that out and feel what's actually going on, but last year on the mot I was told there was slight play in front driver side and rear pass side top suspension bushes. Maybe once the coil overs go on this might cure it?

As for the trick with the lower arms, sounds like a good way but unfortunately the whole leg assembly is on my table in the garden  too late me thinks lol

Mine felt very similar to yours bud. Was shaking at high speed (60mph plus) but also happens when just started and cold. Feels like the back end it shaking all over the place. Possible the rear diff fluid needs changing or something.

Felt like failed bushes or buckled wheels.

Had new tyres fitted and wheels rebalanced. Which didn't cure the problem.

Fitted new coilovers as the rear shock oil seals were both gone and shocks not working.

This has taken the majority of the loose feeling from the rear end away.

It still feels a little loose but I'm putting that down to 25year old bushes now.

Try your new coilovers and see how it goes and then look at changing the bushes. [emoji1360]

Well after Chrisbasildon sorted the transmission for me, she felt slower than I remembered.... But enjoyed driving to work for 2 days....

The boost gauge wasn't working and EBC did nothing. A bit of checking pipework revealed I had pinched the vacuum pipe under the glove compartment when I refitted the wooden cover over the ECU.

After releasing the vacuum hose and going for a spin, I had to return home to change my underwear.... I have got too comfortable in a 4wd Audi..... Rear end breaking away caught me out.... but fun.... lol

Today I took her out for a spin after work and realised why I love my Z...... I still have a vacuum leak somewhere as she keeps stalling when I come to a stop, but I know I need to replace the hardened rubber hoses in the engine bay.

I am soooooo loving having her back on the road, I don't want to drive the Audi at the minute...... Sorry, can't stop smiling......

Well shes back on the road, time to give zebedee a well deserved rest so i can attend to various bit and pieces.

Still needs a good cut and polish but ultimately ill get her resprayed. Veilside exhaust to fit and the selin dual maff kit i got from Dan.

Lots of under bonnet cleaning and polishing needed due to being stood but it will keep me out of mischief for a while.
