  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Think that might just depend on who you are mondo...

I don't. :)

I understand what you're all saying, but as I have already said, I have personally been running on these tyres since I replaced the wheels (with one of those cheap packages off ebay)

Wheel and tyre package was £420 for wheels and £430 for tyres so not really that cheap In my opinion but hey ho..

I out those wheels and tyres on and have done roughly 12,000 miles on them and can honestly say that they've never felt unsafe to me. I've had to pull up real quick on occasion and they have performed perfectly well.

The only time I have had an issue is when applying too much of the beans in the wet which is a driver issue not the tyre.

I do understand your point of view si, trust me I know the importance of being able to stop and being able to stay in contact with the tarmac as I've spent the latter half of my life dealing with the after effects of serious injuries from a crash.

I'm actually suprised at how well these tyres have performed and I think it's wrong that they should get a bad rep when they are actually a good tyre in my opinion.

They may not be the best tyre available, but they have out-performed my expectations of them.

I would say they are a very good tyre from my own experience of using them.

I’d your happy and confident why does it matter what some bloke on an Internet forum has to say...

There was me thinking Ling Long had to be the best budget tyre name, now could I forget the ol' Achilles Heel's? 3b986b0e36c196f3fbaf350a868d6ca2.jpg

I’ve actually used them on a stop gap and they were actually ok. I wouldn’t choose them, but they were quite grippy on summer roads. The thing I’d comment on is that they were a bit slippy in the cold. Achilles are actually now a control tyre for a racing series.

I haven't experienced them myself, just love the name :-P I wouldn't buy a proper budget tyre but I've dabbled in mid-range ones. I had kumho ecstas on my 406 coupe and thought they were quite decent. But then they didn't exactly have a hard life on a car like that, not sure I'd want them on a zed

I understand Nankangs to be "alright" tyres. Not bad at all, perfectly ok, quite good nothing special. I think that's fair.

I'll say what I always say and run away, "I like Vredestiens I think theyre really good!" I also have kuhmos or Hanooks on the back and they are also "alright" nothing special and basically safe tyres. I put stickies on the front and always say this to the dealership for the rears, "What do you get on the back of fast BMWs and Audis and stuff? Heavy powerful normal cars What do you have a good deal on?" The guys have always given me 2 upper middle range safe back tyres and thats what I like.

Sorry si but I asked a question to find out what others are recommending as there is a wide spectrum of owners with different budgets and circumstances.

Thus I would get a broad view on what people thought were acceptable tyres and what to avoid.

I can't accept the opinion of someone on a product they've never used, if you haven't experienced it, you can't have an opinion on it and that is what personally rattles my cage when someone without a real valid opinion comes up with ling long tyres statement..

I've driven on nankangs, the same set for 12,000 miles and never sound my car, never lost traction at any critical point even when driving hard.

My car us not massively spec'd or throwing out big bhp and us not used on a track. Running stock suspension and arms etc.

If I were running 500+ bhp I would see the point in using the best if the best tyres, however I'm the regular Joe and driving within the law and responsibly, so the need for tyres like superglue is simply overkill.

I drive for a living and have covered significantly more mileage than the average driver and have used a massively wide spectrum of tyres on all types of vehicles.

This op was literally to find the average answer to the question and wasn't meant to turn in to a massive debate.

Have a look on Camskills website they do various deals from week to week. Ive seen goodyear eagle f1 asymetrics at £125 for a 265/30/19. Which is quite honestly a no brainer. Ive sung the praises of the F1's for some time. They are fantastic in the wet and the dry. If you put budget or mid range tyres on your car you do so at your own risk. We all know how "unforgiving" a zed can be in certain situations so why allow fitting crap tyres influence this. I really understand people have budgets but honestly save up the extra and shop around for deals you know it make sense. I also have uniroyal rainsport 3 265/35/18 on the back of the white zed ive driven in ALL weathers with these tyres and so far im very impressed with them.

No matter what question you ask it ends up a massive debate.

What oil/ What tyres? what spoiler? etc etc.

Normally the results are inconclusive.

Only you know what funds you have available to buy tyres so buy the best you can with the money available.

Look for the highest wet grip rating you can afford.

Its just a case of understanding the limitations of whatever you buy and driving accordingly.

PS. check out the "Tread wear indicator" number too.

The lower the number the higher the wear rate which normally means better grip from a softer compound.

My Federal 595Rs things have a 140 indicator....you dont want it quite that low tho for a road car!!

I can't believe we're talking about LingLong tyres on here. The mind boggles.

The day people start getting snobby and precious about a car that’s worth less than a second hand Corsa is the day I think I need to sell the car. I brought it to enjoy it not to pretend it’s something it’s not.

Just like I can't except the option of someone who also hasn't run high quality rubber on their Z.

Seriously though. Linglong are a bottom of the barrel tyre. I certainly would NEVER entertain using such stuff. They are cheap for a reason. Why the hell would I want to 'try' something like that? They're pretty mediocre tyres, not bad, not good....something I really have absolutely no desire to fit and I strongly suggest folk fit better stuff than that.

Maybe you don't drive your Z hard, I get that, to be honest, neither to do. But if presented with a situation where I either had to avoid a nasty situation caused by someone or something, or a child ran out in the road or whatever, I want to know that I have highest quality rubber and brakes in perfect condition. I don't see that that's anything to get rattled about. it's common sense.

It's a double edged sword isn't it Pete, the massive debate is a result of passionate members with opinions. But no one wants it to get too passionate :) I reckon we're on the edge right now haha.

Not totally sure quite what you're trying to say here. Are you saying tyres aren't important?

I fit top quality tyres to all my vehicles irrespective of worth. It has absolutely nothing to with any sort of snobbery. I thought you of all people would get that or maybe I misread what you meant.

What I’m saying is that the zed isn’t anything special these days. The average hot hatch would blow a stock zed away. Many companies are fitting very average tyres to thier range, VW seem to like Hankook, the Skoda came with Bridgestones. The middle of the range tyre these days is far superior to that of 20 years ago. A stock zed does not need £250 a corner, as fitted to 700hp Lambos tyre to stop it going up a tree. You can be perfectly safe on very average tyres. That said if it’s an extra tenner a corner for a top brand il plump for it. What I certainly won’t do is make people feel bad for putting middle of the range tyres on a zed. I would criticise someone for paying £500 a month for a top of the range merc and putting the cheapest crap on it because they are too tight to pay up, that’s what people who are all show do. I guess that’s why I don’t own a watch.

I just treat it mainly as entertainment.

We have a good team of moderators who normally prevent anything getting out of hand

FB is even more entertaining as its not usually well regulated..

The UK Z32 pages are hilarious.

A debate about tyres or any similr "subjective" topic is only ever going to go round in circles...like this one.

Plus??? Wot plugs??? Use can use sink plugs for all I care!:lol::lol:

Makes no less reason for high quality rubber not to be fitted.

If this was a Facebook discussion it would be the cheapest tyres possible, and 10cm too small for the rim because I bought the wrong wheels

The point is things have moved on. The special tyres of yesterday aren’t as good as the average tyres of today. Sure you might get that that last door of grip but just like £200 won’t make you Usian bolt £200 a corner tyres won’t make you stop like a new 911.

Wot?? A 225 tyre is fine on a 10.5" rim. :innocent:

Well on the plus side for the rest of us it is a place where we can be free of your opinions on all things Z32.

Which makes today's top end tyres fantastic. I still don't get your argument. I agree that tyre technology has moved on......so fit top quality rubber. If I can shave off half a metre in an emergency breaking situation because the tyres I'm running have a higher grip rating than a mid or budget range tyre and that in turn saves the car or my life, then the cost becomes utterly insignificant.
