  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Anyone got any recommendations for a decent bit of grip on the rear without the sting in the price?

The nankangs I have are pretty good but they're a little slippy under acceleration, they spin a little easy when the boost comes in.

Quality over price, at the end of the day the tyres are the only thing between your pride and joy and the road. Why

would you fit budget tyres to a high performance car?

She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went - Simply irresistible.

Why do you people insist that nankang are a budget brand?

They have not given me any issues that are dangerous?

Every tyre company I have spoken to and asked their opinion on them have said that they are a great tyre and they have vastly improved and become a good brand and I'd hardly say that £105 per tyre was budget would you?

I've had pirelli and Avon and Michelin and all the other brands that have the big names and to be honest there's not that much difference for normal road use. I don't drive like a hoon and the occasional spin up of the rear wheels I've had has been mainly down to it being wet and me trying to accelerate too quick for the conditions. I'm sure any of them would have spun in that instance.

I do agree their are more grippy tyres out there and in some instances you do get what you pay for and thus the reason I didn't go for the £50 a rim jobs that I would call budget.

Nankang being a big sponsor in the drifting world and has made a name for itself over the last few years, I think really should take them out of the "budget" section of the car owners mind..

Anyhow, my issues with the tyres is having just spent a heap of cash on the car and about to be having a lot more done, then my insurance excess to pay for the little scrotes damage caused, things are a little tight and I'd rather have safe rubber than worn ones..

And don't worry, I won't be slipping everywhere haha

They are £80 per tyre from what I saw.

And I have no experience with them, but being big in the drifting world doesn't mean its grippy, it implies the opposite. So if you want a drifting companies tyre thats cool.

Yes, you can get them for £80 Alic.. Depending on which ones you go for.. Cheaper isn't always sub standard guys..

The tyres I've had on since 2016 have hardly worn and are a good tyre. If I thought they were sub standard, I'd agree with you, but how many with this opinion have actually used these tyres and have an opinion based on fact rather than just based on price and brand name snobbery?

I might have to get my hands dirty to help get it all done on the day.

Not that kind of garage, Paul.

....erm, because they are?

No one is saying they're bad....there are just much better tyres out there and personally, I'd rather fit top end manufacturers' tyres. The tyres are stronger irrespective of grip.

Si, I'd fit diamond encrusted ones if I could afford it bud, but we ain't all got money to burn on rubber.. It's gonna be parked up all week and only used at weekends so is it worth spending out in big brand tyres?

I'm no Mr mansell when I drive aswell so it's over kill for me to fit that sort of rubber.. As long as its safe and does its job for now, I think it will do..

Might look in to the ones that were mentioned earlier aswell, the advantage I've heard good stuff about.

That review doesn't convince me what so ever I'm afraid. They're still not as good as premium brand tyres and for that, I'll stick with those since the tyre is the only thing in contact between you and the road.

You make it sound like I'm promoting them as some sort of luxury. They're not, they're the most safety critical part of the car behind the brakes. If you haven't got top quality tyres, even with the best brakes in the world, they're still not going to perform anywhere near as well as they would with high quality rubber.

I do have really rather staunch views on tyres but that's because they are a key safety aspect of the car as well as providing better driver feel. I will not cheap out on tyres.

The Z32 really has nothing to help us when things go a little awry. Not TC, no adaptive safety systems to take the pressure off. Just for that reason alone it's worth fitting them.

They're an insurance policy and if that means that you have to put some stuff on hold like your next skull or light mod, then so be it. That wasn't meant as a facetious comment by the way, I'm just emphasising.

That’s not necessarily true. Proper Drift cars have huge amounts of grip, particularly up front. Grip is control and drifting is all about control on the extreme edge.

They use them because they're cheap and they're going to last about 10 minutes.

I've never seen any manufacturers offer tyres like Nangkangs as new fitment rubber. Car manufacturers are always the first to look for cost savings, but they never do that with tyres and for good reason. Even on maintenence contracts where they'll scrimp and save.

Tyres like Nangkang are also fitted to every cheap £400 wheel+tyre package on eBay.

They're a safety critical part of the car. I can't emphasise that enough that is bad news to cheap out on tyres.

I understand that grip is important for drifting (allows more control and carry more speed), but I'd prefer not to buy from a brand that perhaps designs their tyres with the intention of slipping but be confident in a brand that specialises in grip and slipping as little as possible. It's a weak argument I know, but so is saying to buy 'drift tyres' for grip, 'drift tyres' are popular because they are cheap, and although may be grippy, aren't designed to last 20,000 miles.

I know what your saying, grip generally comes at a cost, lifespan. I get through a lot of tyres, 2/3 sets a year. I always go for proper brand, michellen, conti, good year, the cost difference is negligible in the sizes I use. I’ve been through a few sets, Pzeros included, destroyed them way to quick, I’ve had Falkens that everyone raved about and they were crap. I’m on some temporary ones atm, once warm they are ok.

I see allsorts of brands of tyre fitted at work and can honestly say that based on my experience in the trade that budget tyres don't perform well on big heavy powerful cars....

I see alot of sidewall tears (usually the inner which nobody sees) on lower quality budget tyres.

Premature cracking and perishing is another problem i see alot of aswell.

I understand everyone has a budget but i agree that tyres should be at the top of the list of things to not cheap out on.

People throw thousands at performance upgrades then fit ditch finder tyres......

I personally run Michelin Pilot Sport 3 and love them. Wear rate is negligible to me as the confidence they give is priceless.

I see some shocking tyres whilst carrying out MOT's and drivers should check them more often and check them properly, not just the sidewall facing you.

I second that Chris. The amount of high end cars I see with tyre brands you can’t pronounce is laughable. Spend 70k on a merc and then £50 a corner?

Funny you should say that, we had a C63 AMG in the other day for brakes and advised the rear tyres were quite low. The owner opted for Accelera tyres....... i wouldn't fit those to my wheelbarrow.

Sounds about right. Ling Long or something is quite popular.

I understand what you're all saying, but as I have already said, I have personally been running on these tyres since I replaced the wheels (with one of those cheap packages off ebay)

Wheel and tyre package was £420 for wheels and £430 for tyres so not really that cheap In my opinion but hey ho..

I out those wheels and tyres on and have done roughly 12,000 miles on them and can honestly say that they've never felt unsafe to me. I've had to pull up real quick on occasion and they have performed perfectly well.

The only time I have had an issue is when applying too much of the beans in the wet which is a driver issue not the tyre.

I do understand your point of view si, trust me I know the importance of being able to stop and being able to stay in contact with the tarmac as I've spent the latter half of my life dealing with the after effects of serious injuries from a crash.

I'm actually suprised at how well these tyres have performed and I think it's wrong that they should get a bad rep when they are actually a good tyre in my opinion.

They may not be the best tyre available, but they have out-performed my expectations of them.

I would say they are a very good tyre from my own experience of using them.

There was me thinking Ling Long had to be the best budget tyre name, now could I forget the ol' Achilles Heel's? 3b986b0e36c196f3fbaf350a868d6ca2.jpg
