  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

I went for a drive to test out the series 1 Consult unit.......... Felt good until the transmission started to slip again.......

Got her home and parked safely.... I miss being able to drive her without worrying about her breaking down..... lol

Hopefully the year to get her sorted at last......

have you checked it's got enough fluid in the box after sitting?

Hi Alic, long running transmission problem.... I have a replacement box in garage..... Just need some good weather to convince me to get her in the air and swap it out.... lol

The solenoids and clutch packs are gone..... so replacing the box is best option.....

Thanks anyway.....

Well all I can say is good luck with the new box, you might need it.

I've had my fair share of auto box problems

Oooooooh that was low....... Hi Stephen.... nice to see your still here.... lol

Hope you guys cleaned all that nasty rotten salt off your cars!!!!!!!

Mine was washed and dried before the trip down there and the return home was via the jet wash.. After £8 of water and high pressure soap, the salt was deposited in to the car wash drains and then I drove the half mile home with a clean salt free car..

She's going up n down the motorway to work again this week so I have a feeling the guy that owns the jet wash is going to be rubbing his hands together by the weekend.. Daily salt removal has to be cheaper than welding though right? ..

Jet washed Sunday morning, never has the Z been so grubby.

I would not have taken it out normally, but as I said I would go, then committed!

Having said that, glad I did because its good to see the Zeds together & see fellow members.

Well done Ash!

For me, it's not the salt on the paint and all the areas that can be visibly washed that bothers me, it's the salt that gets itself into inaccessible areas of control arms, chassis rails, bodywork, suspension, brakes, crevasses, subframe, drain holes and so on! I spent over a year(!) with my car stripped in the garage, meticulously sealing and protecting all these areas and I still don't use it in salty weather! In my mind that was just belt and braces.

Pressure washing the car will also likely just force salty water further into areas you can't see and unless you're careful, wet washing the car regularly naturally forces water into areas that pool and can cause issues of their own.

That said, as a daily drive which has to be used in these conditions, I guess you're right in that regular washing has to be better than leaving it all to dwell! Besides you shouldn't listen to me as my morals are extreme, I blow dry my Z!

I heard a rumour you even apply talcum powder and wrap her in bubble wrap........ lol

After a few months in the garage I charged up the battery and drove it today. It felt very strange after driving a BMW 525 M sport as a daily. But was soon at home with all the power and all the looks.

One problem I found when attaching the live battery terminal back on was it didn't tighten on the battery post. The bolt was as tight as it would go but it was still slightly lose on the post so this morning I ordered a set of these post shims. Has any one else had this problem or used shims on their battery posts.

Yep, had exactly the same , I filed the jaws of the clamp back to increase the area available to tighten around the battery post.

I have that problem as well, I use oversized washers when you do the nut up it puts just enough pressure to tighten round the terminals. It will be interesting to see how they work Gaz.

Will let you know how they work mate. The battery I have is only a few months old but with the Z being garaged a lot I am always taking of and refitting the leads.

I have a battery Isolation switch in the engine bay so when it sits I can just take the key out, might help you as it is quick and can be concealed somewhere to stop someone stealing the car...

Yes my brother had one in his old Lotus, I disconnect my battery as well when in the garage.

I purchased some caps that go over the battery terminals for this very reason, my negative was a right pain and could work loose.

I had this on my old 406 once, I needed a quick fix so used a bit of old plasterboard beading bent into a cylinder

Oh and I needed an even quicker fix on my girlfriends old saxo once so I just jammed a nail in between the post and the ring  old bangers are a lot more fun to work on in some ways!

getting wheel alignment done before mot.. well out!!!

Makes a big difference a proper alignment after driving on crap settings.

Found out our company is getting bought out so my job is at risk, really depressing, but these show'd up to cheer me up, onlybeen after these for a year or so.
