  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Love the decal! Rarely see those anymore.

Are you referring to the 300ZX across the rear window?

Have that one in mine but looks terrible where it is full of air bubbles.

Yeah, that one. I would prefer the low door decals though.

Thanks, was on the car when I bought it. No air bubbles either ;). Still doesn't stop people frequently asking me kind of car it is though... lol

Sanded down all the bubble rust to assess then put a couple of coats of zink primer to protect until I get back off holiday and buy a welder

Cleaned it ;-)

Did you wash the engine?

I have been told to avoid that like the plague!

I would so love to steam my engine bay but don't want to fry anything electrical or cause it to run like a bag if nails...

engines aren't as sensitive as they're made out to be. As long as you don't force water into the wrong places, keep the water moving to not drown anything, (cover some electrical components in plastic bags if you wanted) use a good degreaser and some elbow grease you should be fine

It's not a problem at all, I douse it with a good engine cleaner or degreaser and then hose it off with the garden hose.

You can use a steam or pressure cleaner but you need to be more careful with that as you can force water in to places that don't like it, like connectors or sensors.

If you want spectacular results then dry it of, either with rags or air pressure or both. Then apply an engine dressing. Makes it look like new [emoji106]

Except that is an old engine, over 20 years old. I personally wouldn't do it. Cleaner and rags yup, but not the hose or anything.

I couldn't really see the age of the engine being too much of a difference. I understand what you mean, but the water is only really to rinse off loose dirt, and then the "now loose" dirt after degreasing. I wouldn't use a power washer

Put it this way, these engines are prone to dirty connections just from general life. After 20+ years in an engine bay the tenpreture of Mercuray those connectors are brittle and have lost their water resistance. Adding water to the mix is a pants idea IMO. Up to you though mate, it's your car at the end of the day.

I do have to agree with Stephen, I've had cars that are half this age that after washing the engine bay have sounded like a skeleton in a biscuit tin having a w#@K.

The connectors on these cars are pretty pants to begin with and the age and heat under there is only going to have made them worse.

I think I may get the engine nice and hot on a nice sunny day and give mine a try, at least then the heat under there and the bonnet open in the sun, there's less chance of the water staying under there if it does get in the wrong places.

I only need do it the once to clean it up in there as mine is quite dirty. It'd be nice to see it clean cos I think it'll come up really nice.

Degreaser tomorrow then! Give it a go if the weather hot enough..

Fairly sure you shouldn't use degreaser on a hot engine though!

Agree.

Degreaser on a hot engine is a huge no-no!

I've cleaned my 2015 Peugeots engine bay, I've cleaned my 30-40 year old datsuns and both my z32's enginebays, basically every car I've ever owned have been washed.

I have never ever experienced any problems whatsoever.

I made some tweeter pods with the sail panels on the doors for my components, was inspired by AndrewG 's work.

They look great Chris, I'm planning to do a door pod over the original speakers to hold my 6.5" gold speakers and I'm considering building a couple for the rears aswell. Plan is to shape the boxes to fit around the boot lid on either side so I can house a couple of 6.5's in each and still keep the 6x9 style originals in there aswell.. Also been toying with idea of one of the underseat bass boxes but not sure if it'll fit and if they're any good either.. Just don't want to lose the bootspace with a sub box.. Need to put the targas somewhere!
