  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

I finished it yesterday, used hot water and t-cut the glue off. It was too dark to take pictures though

Tcut? A little unorthodox method there Alic but if it's done the job!

Tcut is best for paint mate..lol..

Diesel is good for wax marks, tree sap etc and white spirits is good for rubber, glue and most silicone based materials.

I used to be a truck valeter and learnt a few tricks from that job!

At least you got the sticker off now, so we'll done mate

Yea I know, but it got the glue off rather easy and I'm not bothered about the paint so it got the job done.

Went to check on the progress of my repaint today....where the body work guy showed me that the original swage line had had a "Dark Green" pin stripe....since I have had it there has been a black pinstripe over the top.

My car is Gun Metal Grey (JDM) does anyone know if the Green Pin Stripe was standard?....should I put it back?.....I've told them to do it body colour at the moment (Gun Metal Grey still!)

Thoughts?

I think that your green pinstripe is just a black one that's discoloured over the years....

That 'green' pinstripe would have started off as a graphite pin stripe, they fade over time and turn a dark metallic green.

Took the Mrs for a nice drive after work with the targas off, then stopped off for a drink at a pub by the canal :)

Finally managed to get the last few bits of my series 2 retro-fit interior. The deal with what I wanted was that I wanted a series 2 interior, but wanted to retain the belts in the original S1 configuration, ie, door belts and rear lap belts. Those who have fitted an S2 interior will be well aware of this. I've already modified the door cards (with the help of AndrewG) to accept the door-mounted seat belts.

The issue with doing the rear however and retaining the lap belts is that you're left with cutouts on the rear quarters for the B-pillar mount belt reels to go through. I didn't want that, I wanted it to be a complete retro-fit. Now, JDM and Euro cars with the S2+ interiors all had this cutout and all had belts in a different location. Between 91 and 93 in the US, 2+2 models with the velour interior still had the belts mounted on the doors meaning the lower velour section didn't have cutouts in them. The top section is like a regular S2 as they did away with the lap belts, however, you can split the sections. They've proved to be really hard to get hold of in good shape.

I've managed to source, from 2 different ends of the US, one in upstate NY and the other in California, some rear quarter panels from said 2+2 type configuration. It's slightly anal in detail, but it doesn't feel complete at the moment.

They're in very good condition, they just need a good clean.

You got any pictures of said interior (almost complete)?

Well, tried to get in mine to go for a drive to the carwash but the chest muscle injury I picked up on Saturday just won't allow me to get in it.

Considering I thought I was having a heart attack on Sunday and ended up in A&E all day Sunday I guess I should be grateful that I've only damaged a muscle amd it's not my ticker!

I'll have to wait a while before I get in her again I guess..

Don't like seeing her dirty, it's depressing!

That does look a stunning Zed and untouched...my next Z32 (hopefully) will be as untouched as possible as i feel this is were the values are going in these cars..Anyway sorry to ramble and well done with the MOT.

Thanks. If I had the cash she would have a twin z rear spoiler and wings west front splitter by now though...

Wings West don't do a front splitter. They do an awful complete bumper though that doesn't match the rest of the car..

As I've been drugged up to the eyeballs with pain killers, I decided I needed to relieve the boredom somehow.

Well as luck would have it, the post delivered my hydrographic film today as I'm going to use it on some of my engine bay parts. So it was practice time!

I started out with a paint lid in the body colour of my car so I could see how the gold carbon fibre effect would look against the parts. Then I carbon fibre one of my skulls that I moulded, then I used a couple of samples they sent on a couple of objects to hand. These are the results.

Not perfected the art yet but slowly getting there..

Provided I can get it right, I'll be dipping my own parts instead of paying the extortionate prices of the companies that do it..

I bought 5 meters of film 1 metre wide for £25 and £6 for activator.. Boom!!

Are you only going to do interior components or have you got any ideas for anything else?

Dissasembled the 24 Lifters into their individual components and cleaned. Reassembly tomorrow.

I'm going to be dipping my fan shroud, timing covers and I might extend it to the colour coded parts I have fitted inside the car.

I've thought about using the dip film on the trims that run over the car from the windscreen to the boot but I'll have to work on that. Removal of those parts is tricky and very hard not to break the plastic clips that hold the trim on..

I don't want to go too mad with it but If I can get it right then I have the option of using it in other areas.

A job on my list. Joy.

Today I went to collect my engine bay plastics from Sam passfield who is a fantastic sprayer.. He has transformed my dull black plastics in to this!

Now, once I perfect the technique of hydro dipping, I will transform them again with the gold carbon weave..

Very excited.

Big thanks to Sam for doing an ace job and squeezing me in at a very busy time.

I can imagine that fan will be a pain to hydrodip. It it works, props to you :thumbup1:
