  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Fitted my WinFactory bonnet struts that I bought from Jaffa, ages ago

As per usual nothing easy on the Zed the passenger side strut fouls ever so slightly on the battery, so need to look at a bit of fine tuning so the bonnet sits as it should

Went for a drive into wales this morning, the Horse Shoe Pass, with my mate who's just bought a new motor bike. Would make a great meeting place for the north west/north wales crew. Decent cafe there too.

Yes great drive out this tom, been many times myself on the bike, and yes would be great in the zed to:) let us now if you do anything would love to come along mate :)

Will do mate. Hoping to go again before winter. Must have been well over 50 bikes there today.

Today I reveresed it into a bloody post!! :innocent:

Couldn't see it (driving position too low) and thought the one in my nearside wing mirror was the last one in the row.

It wasn't

Finally got mine taxed today. Took her for a drive and it's good to back behind the wheel!!! All I have to do now is strip it back down and respray it:whistling:

Got a quote to fix it - £260

As the rear bumper was a complete one-off, modified from a Shark V1, most of this is filler

Decided may as well get the two little 'bubbled' areas of paintwork on the nearside rear arch fixed at same time seeing as they have to respray the rear quarter anyway. The metalwork on the arch all sounds solid if you tap it - so not sure what was causing the bubbling at the moment

Classic case of water (condensation) between the skins rotting it over time from the inside I'm afraid mate. If your bodyshop simply rub it back and fill it, it'll come back within 6 months (even if treated). The area ideally needs cutting out back to unaffected metal,A: to stop it spreading and B: to prevent it coming back. It might sound solid and most of it probably is, but that's because it's double skinned and the rust hasn't developed that far along. It'll be rusting from the inside though, so no amount of sanding it back from the outside will stop it.

Ahh right OK

I'm still debating with myself whether to fit a wide rear arch kit and complete the 'show car' look. At that time I would make sure any rot was cut out of the underlying panels and repaired before hand - as I did with my sills and sill returns before this kit went on.

Having said that, I am rebuilding my orginal engine with forged components this winter so any further bodykit conversion would have to wait until next winter anyway

So is it not worth rubbing back, filling and treating the bubbling arch then? Just seemed to me that I may as well do it while the rear bumper is being fixed as it did not add much to the price.

You can, but the rust will still be back there hidden. Sometimes, it takes a bit longer to appear again, but it will come back if it's not cut out completely. Doesn't look like yours is too bad, so I doubt much metal will need to be cut out, but rust from the inside has now reached the other side which has swollen the paint to a bubble.

OK Si that's fair advice. If it does need need a bit cutting out now to make it good (if the damage isn't very extensive yet) then may as well do it now and save big problem later

Got another quote from a recommended bodyshop - this one came from guys on the VW Golf show circuit

Revised quote was £140 to repair the rear bumper and £150 to cut out the rotten metal from the nearside wheel arch, weld in new metal, blend in and respray

So total £290

Original quote was £260 for rear bumper and £140 to grind down and patch up rear arch - total £400

So cheaper quote and proper repair. That will do for me :)

Good man! It's the best way. Ask them to save the bit they chop out and you'll understand how they rust and where it comes from. :)

I received this Carbing strut brace in the post. Bargain off eBay, gona look great after a little polish.

If a few non UK based sponsors got their act together you could get or very similar for a fair price.
