  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Collected her from Lee Dents, and now she's in the my garage where she's polished up ready for the drive down to Coventry tomorrow afternoon:))))

Well I haven't got it back yet! I fear I won't get it back until tomorrow! They had planned on having it complete by today, the glass man is coming to fit the rear screen and rear quarters, but there's still a hell of a lot to do (not just my end), there's a lot of work the painter still has to do which includes colour sanding and machine polishing the entire car. The final paintwork won't be done until tomorrow afternoon, but if that gets dragged out, it may mean that I won't get it back (in bits) until Saturday mid morning...if that happens, I'll miss Coventry as I'll be having to get the car sorted, into the garage and whatnot - that's worst case scenario!

It was my own fault for booking it in the week before the show - I got my dates completely muddled up, I blame the jet lag!

I am trying though!

Same here Si

Haven't got the green one back yet and to cap it all my contract ended so I'm not working at the moment

Well done Keith on the pass  and Si that spray work looks magnificent

Yes and yes....!!

The colour of Si's car certainly looks better in the second set of pictures.... Much more like it....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

It would be great to see you AND the car there Si - but don't rush it my friend... You want to make sure you are 100% happy this time; my suggestion, is leave the body shop to work at their own pace and get it done to your complete satisfaction, however much longer it takes. Don't kill yourself re-assembling everything if they do finish it tomorrow, you'll only go and scratch it somewhere or something worse....

Leave the Z where it is, get in your DD and drive up as a guest as opposed to exhibitor. There's always Beaulieau or - if they are holding it again in Sept - that Rare Breeds show at the Haynes Museum!!

What Richard said Si. Accept it's not going to be ready, there'll be other shows bud. Although I am suprised you chose to send it for paint the week before this meet, I probably would of done the same. You obviously weren't happy with it and wanted it perfect. Although I think it's a shame it won't be at Coventry, I commend you in your attention to detail. Fantastic Zed.

I polished the awful paintwork so now it's shiny awful paintwork but she looks good still. Filled her up & went 4 a drive. Trying to get Harry into zeds too.

lol, I can never get portrait pics the right way round on here.

Finally managed to get my clutch bled and working so it's MOT tomorrow and hopefully meet on Saturday.

Then next week is a big week for the Z as it is being transformed for the big local show on Sunday 27th and will look totally different.

That was my cock up. I thought I'd booked it in 2 weeks before, but it was only until a month ago after a phone call with Richard Smith that I'd double booked! Managed to move it back a few days, but couldn't do it any sooner and I did not want to show it until it was sorted.

Well the majority of the car is done.

I have started assembling the shell, doors are now aligned, have their check straps on, their latches aligned, seals on. Front end support, fan housing, strut and the rest all cleaned up, arch liners back in, targa seals back in, filler cap assembly done, door wiring refitted (PITA). I can't really do much more until the hatch is bolted back onto the car and the glass refitted, only then will I be able to build up the interior.

There is still a bonnet, back bumper, mirror covers and door handles to be painted. I can't really build up the door without the door handles and they're unlikely going to be painted before tomorrow lunchtime, so I won't be able to fit them until late tomorrow night....but and here's the big but, it all has to be colour sanded and machine polished! As fast as I can build it up, it still needs a lot of work to complete and my efforts of rebuilding are hampered by parts still awaiting paint. BUT, I am MUCH much happier with this job already than I was with the last one, especially this vibrant new colour and metallic grey moustache! Looks MUCH darker here than it actually is. The colour of the moustache is 1G3 - a Toyota metallic grey which matches the original satin (by shade) of the OEM mirror backings - guess what, they're being painted the same to match!

I am STILL trying though and will be assembling what I can at the paint shop tomorrow in a hope that I might be able to bring it home tomorrow otherwise I'll be scuppered and will have to collect on Saturday!

Wing under partial sunlight - when it is sunny, it really pops!

Front end partly built up.

Close up of fog light out in sunlight - really happy with the result and the LED side light still gives a good output!

Looking rather fantastic Si - i really hope you get it done but it's looking like you still have a hell of a lot to do :(

Accept it won't be ready for tomorrow and give time to getting it finished for Beaulieu on the 3rd August. That

gives you 16 days. Come up to Coventry and be part of the event, in any case you are a judge for the car of

show award.

That's starting to become a realisation. Glass isn't even going to be refitted until later this afternoon and I won't be able to collect the other bits until tomorrow - have no mirrors!

Yup! Just went down to check out the bumper with my smoked indicators - I think they work really well! I need to repolish the outside of the indicator as it seems to have picked up some marring.

The Toyota metallic grey works really well I think. The lighting is really poor, but you get the idea!

That looks superb, i'm definitely considering the option of the moustache now but I do have a rather nice bumper sitting in need of repair that would look perfect on the look i'm going to be going for :)

I love the stock TT bumper, I could now no longer go with anything else, I think this was the key thing that it was missing. Looking forward to fitting it up later and seeing it working its magic! :)

I've always had a mat clip for the drivers side and when I had the seats out a while ago I spotted there was a hole in the floor also to take the plastic fastener for it on the passenger side, it was just hidden under a bit of carpet, this now carefully cut away to reveal.

Having looked without joy for a mat clip on a Z in a scrapyard near me I got onto Baz and he kindly sent me one.

So wire brushed back, primed and then gloss redded to match other small red bits here and there in the cabin, I fit today - so pic shows all fit and ready for the mat to be offered on.

Whilst at the scrapyard I picked up all four of the rear nut plastic covers and with an extra washer on the front bolts to just space them back a fraction and then a tiny blob of hot glue, the covers go on just fine :thumbup1:.

Other half took Zebedee to be valetted for tomorrow. Checked this morning n found this! Must have been grit on the cloth and the whole wing is scratched. Now back at the bodyshop for another polish.

And that is just what it is a dirty sponge or cloth leaving light scores on the paintwork. It will have to be polished out and dont go near that car wash again Mandy.

I'd be back down there demanding the cost of a machine polish to rectify it!
