Thought I would introduce myself to you guys, I'm on here for help and advice and some like minded car lovers.

I have just got my first UK 300ZX Twin Turbo, it's been stood for 11 years and has a few minor bodywork issues, mechanically it's perfect and after checking the engine and bores she started first turn of the key!!!

A bit about me I'm in IT for a living and I'm also a Motorsport mechanic working on some very trick kit from ex works touring cars to ex works rally cars and special one off builds for time attack and 10 of the best.

Pleased to meet you all.

Daz.

Well me and about 76000 others!!! :tt2:

I would love to come along and maybe in my car as well if I ever finish it!!!

You’re in Manchester anyway so it would be good to catch up and get some advice, I might build some quick cars but never worked on a 300 before and never realised how much technology is in one!!!!

Daz.

Heh! Well I was very proud of myself for fitting new windscreen wipers and filling the washer bottle  unfortunately, on a site full of mechanical genius, you are stuck with the dumb blonde!! Mind you, I would be very useful if you broke down, you could stand me next to the car looking pathetic :biggrin:

I'm hoping to MOT mine next week, just a bit of snagging to do, it's only been 5 years, count yourself lucky mate! :)

4 of us have been on mine at times and 3 of those professional mechanics and all of us being motorsport mechanics with the use of a very nice garage with all the gear.

Still think it's going to be closer to 12 months than the 3 I first thought!!!!!!!

Good luck, they're not too difficult. The last couple of times we've had mine off I've left Mikey to get it back on all the sprockets, just for speed reasons, as he does it at rapid speeds where it'd take me an hour, lol, but you should be ok :D

Looking forward to it and a step closer to finishing, cant wait for spring and getting on the road and meeting the forum members.

Happy Days!!!!

Right here we go, got the Zed in July after being stood for 11 years and mechanically its job done so the list so far:

Drill and replace Turbo down pipe\header studs both sides (This was the worst Job!!!)

Replace all calliper seals and flex brake lines, clean the disks up and replace brake pads, bleed the entire system.

Replace the clutch slave cylinder and bleed the clutch, nice place to put a bleed point behind the drivers head lamp!!!

Change all filters and levels, flush all coolers and check the pipes and unions.

Go through all the suspension and steering and replace all the steering fluids and check all the joints.

Fit the stainless exhausts and replace damaged mounts and hangers and all the rubbers.

New tyres all round.

Fit driver’s side return panel and check and clean all the targa roof drains and seals.

Replace all the bulbs that weren’t working and wipers, do a full electrics check.

Replace the cam belt, pullies, water pump, thermostat and auxiliary belts.

That’s all for now!!!

Body work and interior next!!!!!:surrender:

Been a bit quite recently getting the race cars ready for the new season, so on with the Zed!!

Drove it for the first time last night properly on trade plates, what a scream, lit the back tyres up in 1st 2nd and 3rd on a dry road!!!

Well she’s in the body shop now and hope to have the car back for March and enjoy so I will let you know where I'm up to as and when.

looking great mate. cant believe it was laid up for 11 years!

Thanks, really happy with the job they have done and can’t wait to get it back to the work shop and do the last few jobs and drive it.

As with all projects you have a plan and add at least 6 months!!!

Guy at the body shop said the shell was really solid and he was amazed at the condition of the car.

Just need to fit the rear spoiler and then go through the brakes again, new windscreen and paint the wiper arms and replace the wipers, go through some plastics and then game on, do the rest of the list while I enjoy using the car.
