RichardS Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Sorry, but even in these modern times of gender indiscrimination, this is just wrong..... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1385492/Chris-Whitehead-wears-skirt-school-protest-uniform-rule.html Firstly let's not forget that the school has rules; so if his parents don't like the rules then send him to another school. FFS, don't endorse his protest by encouraging him to stand up for some misguided "rights" - he's a child and should do as he is told..... ...that's why some kids are out of control - because their every whim is indulged hence they lack dicipline. Secondly; what parent in their right mind would allow photos of their 12 year old boy to parade around in a skirt, posing coquettishly, hands on hips, in the national press??? That's really going to do him good in the future isn't is...?? Or am I just an old dinosaur who should be extinct in modern Britain - I don't have kids so what do I know....?? What do you all reckon? Richard:confused1: For me the issue isn't so much about allowing him to do this as WHO GIVES A F**K!!! Seriously, how is this news?! I hate the British media, don't get me started on the Daily Mail and the Sun tho. I mean, in "modern Britain" explain to young kids tits on page 3!! That should be extinct! Lol Quote
300ZX_666 Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I certainly would not allow my son to go to school in a skirt. As you say Richard, there is a serious lack of dicipline these days, and children get away with far too much. You noticed this at the Zedworld bash with my Ian......lol. How come some parents and do gooders create a riot at other parents taking photo's at a school event, and yet can post pictures of their own child such as this!!!! Quote

Lol I can relate to the emboldened bit - but there are no tits on page 3 of the Mail Jane.... And on the subject of "modern Britain" surely we have degenerated much further than topless women posing in an excuse for a newspaper. Wasn't it around 40-odd years ago the Sun first rolled out page 3...? I think that far worse things have become acceptable in "modern Britain" than that. And lets also remember that (comics like the Sun et al aside) newspapers will always give a biased view depending on their political leanings. So berating the Daily Mail if you are, say, a Guardian reader is nothing more than a personal opinion and not fact. Just as it would be the other way round! groover Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Dont get me started on discipline, i fight a losing battle sometimes with my other half. Her 11 year old really grinds me sometimes, but she lets him get away with murder. She thinks im always having a go at him for no reason, but i try to show that its for his own good or he will grow up with no discipline and poor grades. As it happens he is doing well at school and she seems to be coming round to my approach, but there is no way he would wear a skirt to school, let alone us letting him lol. Quote
vodkashots Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Well, my daughter is now 3 years old, and since ive been more or less the sole parent with her upbringing, shes a little sweet heart and does what shes told. Shes polite, and well mannered, she says "please" "thank You" "your welcome" and "i have a plan", she also tells me to "slow down" and "too loud" when the musics on, and her latest trick (dunno where shes got it from) is to stand between you and the person your speaking too, raise her arms with palms facing you and the other person and say "calm down, every body just clam down" while waving them up and down. but yeah, im teaching her right from wrong, shes got discipline and i make it so when she helps out, its fun for her so she enjoys it and likes to do it more. My little boy who is 1 and 6 months, is getting there as well. There is no way id let my son go school in a skirt. and unless it was an award of some sort, not sure id want him paraded around in a national paper for doing it either. ill wait till he is older and left home and got his own family before he goes out in a skirt, then he can be a bloody drag queen for all i care. it will be his life. but until then. hes going to do as he is told. and grow up with respect and politeness in him. vodkashots Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Eh? sorry stellaz think i might be reading into that wrong, but your upbringing was like what? like how im raising my kids? or how that boy in a skirt was raised. dont want to say something incase im taking things the wrong way matey  Quote
stellaZ Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 pmsl, sorry mate, this bit stand between you and the person your speaking too, raise her arms with palms facing you and the other person and say "calm down, every body just clam down" while waving them up and down. my parent argued a lot as i was a kid lol Quote

Sir Charles Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Muslims are allowed to wear that stupid thing around their face in school so why can't a British citezan wear a pair of shorts ffs? Quote
leo-r32gts Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Richard - yes you are a dinosaur! The lad was just wearing a skirt - to highlight what is a pretty retarded rule. No shorts in summer? Oh hang on, I had the same rule when I was at school.. :mad2: Never had the imagination to take that approach though. The article implies that he did this of his own free will - which is probably very different from the photographer that goaded him into that silly pose. All of you macho types who are beating your chests about how tough your schools were should get a grip. Just cos the school is near cambridge and has been rated good - it doesn't mean that the school is full of toffs and ponces. All public schools have a mixture of students of various backgrounds. I think the lad is actually braver for wearing a skirt, because, undoubtedly, many of his peers will be taunting him about it. But the lad knows that the chicks will be digging his style - so who's laughing at the end? It took bigger *****cks to wear that skirt, than it did to sit there and do nothing. Stella - you need to see a therapist, you have emotional issues.. Sir Charles - you're just border line racist, I don't agree with full face burkhas, but being tolerant of other people's traditional dress is a necessity in modern britain. Not calling it stupid would be less offensive.. Quote
derek_g2001 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 It definitely can't be said he lacks discipline - he is following the school dress code to the letter, whilst making his point, and staying within the rules set by the school. Yeah, he is a whiner for complaining he can't wear shorts when their omission from the dress code means they are effectively barred. BUT as a student, he has the right to air his views, and his view is that he is uncomfortable in trousers. If he has the balls to go to school like that to make his point, fair play on the wee fella. He is destined to grow up into someone who is not scared to put his point across, and is willing to risk ridicule to do so as he stands up for his beliefs. The UK needs more kids like him, not a generation of weak willed losers that have no opinion and don't question anything. I think some of the posters are confused - remember, he is not breaking any rules, so whats the problem? I agree in the principle of a school uniform, as long as it is functional and affordable, and I agree dress standards should be set. Apparently, so does he, so good luck to him. Quote
mick1 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Fair pla to him , using the STUPID rules to demonstrate against them. Got himself some useful media coverage as well. If he had been a Dumb spoilt little shite as some suggest he would have just gone in shorts Weel done I say :smartass::smartass: Quote

Not calling it stupid would be less offensive.. Ok then, If I considered myself a Jedi (about as realistic as all other religions) and I turned up for work with my lightsaber and Jedi garb i'm pretty sure I would be up for a disciplinary. I'm assuming that jewellary such as a cross around your neck is still banned from schools (it was in my school) so why then must we accept Muslim dress? I'm glad you called me borderline racist and not a racist, because I am DEFINETELY not that. Quote
300ZX_666 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 ^^^^ I agree Sir Charles, the rules differ for some and not others. Quote
bobgenie Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 It's a pretty stupid rule and the boy was making an intelligent and considered stand against it. I applaud him and I think he's got some pretty big 'cojones' wearing that skirt and I'm sure it (the skirt) helped to keep em cool too :) Quote
ck300z Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I’ve watched this thread but refrained from commenting...but it brings another topic to mind, playground tax, yes charging children to use the playground with a fee of £2.50 on entrance!! not per day though, so two playground trips in break or lunch and you have spent a fiver!, its only being piloted in a certain area of London but its lib/cons intention to brig it in to practice from what i have heard! Quote
mick1 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 No fookin way:biggrin::biggrin:seriously you need to stay away from the Daily Mail :tongue_smilie: It is actually one school that is charging IF parents want to use the playground Facilities AFTER School Quote
