I,m getting some duct vent off CarMad so i,ve had to relocate my sidelights and thought i,d do the angel eye mod .

Remove the metal plates and the rubber around the light , warm the glass well and using a flat scraper gently prise the glass up and off the headlight

zedrebuild317-1.jpg

Remove the 2 screws from the bezel and lift out .

zedrebuild318-1.jpg

The reflector area is held on with 3 screws , take this off so it,s easy to work on .

zedrebuild319.jpg

The led strips have 24 leds in them but can be cut down after every 3rd led and still work , cut back as close as possible to the 4th one and you,ll find they go in the reflector but i found thy were still tight not sitting well , at the other end where the wires come out there,s a little bit of material that can be removed CAREFULLY so you don,t cut the wire , this allows it to sit flush without trying to lift.

zedrebuild333.jpg

I used some scotchbright to key the chrome , got the leds sitting evenly with the join at the top and wicked a bit of superglue around it .

zedrebuild323.jpg

Btw i had previously coiled the strips , warmed them and let them cool , they hold their shape alot better.

zedrebuild331.jpg

I put it back together making sure it all worked first, i soldered a stronger wire to the leds and ran it out of a breather at the back of the light

zedrebuild329.jpg

And the finished result but don,t forget to clean the insides well before rebuilding.

Some good work, they look nice and bright

C'mon get them fitted and take a head on piccy at night and one in the daytime

My cars in bits at the mo :cry::cry:[

I,m just trying to do some bits in the workshop cos it,s tooo bloody cold out !! lol

They look great and a good write up. Loving all the work people are doing themselves on their cars on this site at the minute.

look good mate, im just doing the same on mine, but with a few changes to the internals.

same as you 99 spec front and fog light ducts

do they not get too hot when the dipped beam is on ?? i woud imagine that the rubber material incasing the angel eyes would start to melt as that domed projector lens gets stinking hot

The hid,s in mine are what i canabalised out of a pair of merc headlights a good few years ago before these plug and play kits were available and i used the merc bulb holder for which i used epoxy to glue it in place and thats never come adrift so i cant imagine having any probs as these are a good few inches away from the actual heat source .

Cheers Dave but i,ve only gone off what Groover and a few others have put in the FAQ,s just done a few pics extra :thumbup1:

looks very nice Mate ...its a job im going to have to do as i will be losing the side lights in the need for more air flow to the rebuilt motor...great write up made it look easy ..how long did it take and how did you heat the headlight, did you use a hair dryer ?

Took a couple of hours on the first one , i used two 2kw fan heaters blowing on either side of the headlight to warm it up nicely, you can see them in the first pic .

You could use a hot air paint stripper as long as your gentle to start off with. HTH

I did similar to this last year and the led strip does not seem to be UV stable and has turned quite yellow - so keep an eye on that sir.

Looks good.

Put the oven on at around 100 degrees, this method warms the gunk equally, keep popping them in for 10 min stints and then more prising, once you get a corner out and it's nice and warm it comes apart a treat :thumbup1:

Of course works just as well with the rear lights

I done this on my white zed about a year ago... They go yellow after a few months I'm afraid :(
