I have owned 3 Zeds and enjoyed everyone. My current Zed is probably the best and the most powerful that I have owned and the most expensive. I have just showered money on it to get it just the way a Zed should be, fast, reliable and desirable. But when I drive it now it is beginning to feel toooooooo quick, both on power and handling. It feels like a rocket propelled go-kart which is probably partly due to my everyday driver being a Disco TD5. I am now aware that someone of my age getting out of a Zed must look a bit odd as I am closer to 70 than 60, and really these motors are a young mans pocket rocket. I feel that I now should be driving a Masseratti Quadroporti, or an XK8 or even a Bentley GT. My car does look like it should belong to a younger man. I think it may be decison time.

Hi mate,

my opinion for what it's worth......

......buy one of what you have described as "an old man's motor" but keep the Z anyway. For what you'll get selling it at the moment, it's not worth it - you're better off hanging on to the car just for fun!

I've looked at the new XK8 (XKR variant) and I'm very impressed with it! The old shape XK was disappointing when I drove one but the latest car is just superb!! I'd be happy with that (alongside the Z); although replacing those 285/35/20 (IIRC) Pirellis on the back twice a year doesn't appeal much......

The Massa is also lovely but I'd give the Bently a miss - too "footballer" for my taste. Otherwise I'd consider an E-class AMG (if I was your age :tt2:) or an Aston Vantage....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Go and try the XK-R. They are feckin fast.

You won't get the sudden kick-in-the-back feeling you get in a good Zed though because the power is always there!

Soooo much more comfortable to drive too. None of the go-kart feel about it.

Much more luxury rocket :D

I actually think that it's good that an older person is a Z enthusiast. It's a nice age spread with the Z as it appeals to such a broad spectrum of people. IMO, having older guys interested in the car gives it more appeal. Just in the same way as you see older guys driving classics and other sports cars....ie you don't tend to see them in hot hatches and such like.

Its a good thing your elder and driving the car, age.........who gives a fook, aslong as your enjoying driving the car why would you care what others think?

Atleast it shows the zed isnt any kind of chav car etc..

As long as you can still get in and out then I think you should keep it. Don't worry about what other people think, if you love the zed then keep it.

and when you struggle to get in and out chav it up with hydraulic suspension and a swivel drivers seat.lol.

If it was me, I'd sell up, and put the money towards a nice 240Z with an RB conversion or similar

I see the alternatives mentioned as footballers/footballers wives cars

just my 2p worth

The wrong reason to sell it.

If you don't like it anymore or just fancy a change then fair enough.

But your age should not come into it unless its a physical/health issue.

Keep it pal, age is just a number, if i saw a 100 year old chap falling to bits struggling to pour his frail body out of a Zed, I would have nothing but respect!

My Dad is nearly 63, and he is wetting his pants (not because of his age) to drive mine as soon as she's ready!

It's up to you, but a nice pretty standard Zed in my eyes, is anything BUT a boy racer car, it is a connoisseur's car...

But when I drive it now it is beginning to feel toooooooo quick, both on power and handling.QUOTE]

Here's an idea........get it kitted out with Nitrous and TEIN coilies', drive it hard for 6 months then go buy yourself some clean pants, remove the Nitrous and remove the TEIN's and revert back to stock!!!!

it'll feel like a much slower and much softer ride in all........you can then feel happy in the knowledge that you've gone for a more sensible 'Z' option in your later years, but still have fun at the playstation generation's expense at the traffic lights!!!

don't sell it!! you will regret it....you car is gorgeous, very clean and basically mint when i saw it....take care of it a few more years and then i will buy it off when im older and can afford to insure and run it. :D i seriously liked your zed

The problem is driving the diesel Volvo because their slow and your 'everyday' car when you get in the zed its a whole different beast.

Just get a faster daily then the zed wont be such a difference. Lets be honest a discovery and a zed are polar opposites! If you had something with a big of poke for everyday then it would all be fine!

If you enjoy driving it still then keep it!

Who says hitting the latter part of 60 means you have to stop doing things you enjoy?

Jump in, go for a drive and smile mate :)

zeds are low and hard to get in and out of when your old joints are not as they used to be I tend to fall into mine and with one hand on the door sill swivel out:biggrin: My advice is to keep it if you can as you will not get a great price for it and buy somthing like you have listed good luck with what ever you choose bud.

Luckily I am very fit and do not have trouble getting in or out of the car. The main concern is that my Zed looks like it should belong to someone in their 20's/30's and not to a white haired pensioner. Perhaps I should tone down the exhaust and standardise the car to look less noticeable, dye my hair and get a baseball cap and designer shades. Its a thought.

John, i have the same prob....i guess you know what silver streak looks like!

I have 2 youngsters working for me and they love it! and often say i look stupid at my age driving it:scared::wheelchair:

And my mates sons who drink with us state the same, they tell me its a waste of a car................and i am 42!!!!!!!

I f your heart is telling you to sell then sell but dont be pushed into it because of what others may think.enjoy it for what its worth:wink:

Dave

I'm 54 and drive my z every day at the moment and don't feel to old for the car, have just fitted some new coil over shocks from Jerrick at MeisterR and it has transformed the ride and my enthusiasm for the car.

Paul

definately keep it. I've seen a few odd sights recently. old people in flat caps driving suped up Pug 205's and a guy almost 70 buying a 500+ brake supra from a local importer who specifically asked for lots of carbon fibre to be ADDED to the already modded shell.:alien:

Just keep it and enjoy it, plus, who cares what others think. :)

Peter
