Been working on the LED conversion for the rear lights over the weekend and before I go any further with it I need some opinions on what would look best on the radius part of the light segments.

Been working on the light units this morning. The indicator section has enough room behind the lens to fit the LED’s without any mods but that cannot be said for the side/brake section. Problem is.

1 The rear light unit has a screw which goes through the side/brake section and the recess is angled differently t the lens.

2 the inner radius of the side/brake section (closes to the centre panel) has no room behind the lens for the LED’s.

Only thing to do here is to use SMD LED’s at these places which means a slightly more complicated circuit board for the side/brake section.

Hi Mate, i have a pic of the clear corners led light units, i will try and dig it out.

On most of the board they have 5mm leds apart from the recess at each end which have 15 3mm leds( each end) and in the middle where the reflector screws in there is a row of 5mm leds top and bottom and 12 3mm leds around the hole. With the spacing of the leds, they have designed it so the hole is in the space between a row. You wont need smd's then, which will make the board easier to design,, or maintain the same design that you have.

i would love to say goodbye to the lenses completly and just have the leds mounted behind the perspex. can that be done?

Its better they are mounted behind the diffuser, you dont see the light source then and will look OEM

no split decisions here then! 2 for me!

Type 1 or 2 will be an improvement on the clear corners ones, eg. take away the 2 lines of leds in the pic and you have the clear corner leds lol

Not sure if anyones aware but you can buy replacement bulbs that are LEDs. They are like a cluster of superbright leds so they have a complete viewing angle and are just direct replacements for the actual bulbs. Would save a lot of hassle.

they are alot easier and i know they say wide viewing angles etc but they still give an intense light at the bulb rather than a nice even light pattern across the whole cluster.

True I got some LEDx36 for the tail and brake, as i've got blacked out lenses, and the normal bulbs are brighter???!!!???

Uh why?? Can't see the logic myself!!

Its to do with the limited viewing angles of LED's. The rear light unit mounts the bulbs at 45 deg ish apart from the indicator which is mounted at one end only.

Oh yeah, I can see the logic.
