Now there is nothing that would make me dismantle my air con on my zed as its a vital when stuck in traffic in mid july...even the promise of 800 bhp would not make me lose it:cool2: so my question is who has it and who does not and for what reason on both counts?? Poll added so please tick your choice.

Can't see the pole mate!

I like my luxury's so don't bother with weight saving. Wouldn't consider removing it. If I wanted a fast car without any toys I'd have bought an Ariel Atom or such like.

I removed mine, but there is good reason for that - its being built for pure Fast road & track use. The car will never be sat in traffic in mid july.

I've spent a lot of time concentrating on weight reduction.....and so to leave in something as bulky and heavy as the aircon just wouldn't be right.

If my car wasn't being built for this purpose then I would keep it. Removing it in your typical road going Z thats not on a complete weigth reduction program would be bit pointless imo.

What I have done though is to retain the factory pipeing into bulkhead and the Aircon unit in dash, so if I ever wanted to refit it would be straigthforward for me to do, which I may well do if I was to ever take it on a Summer european road trip or similar.

tbh though, all my Daily drivers have always had aircon....and I've switched it on for maybe 2-3 days in the entire year.

There is nothing that would make me switch on aircon IF I had it.... but I dont.

I removed it.... its the work of the devil.:devil2:

Mines gone, best delete you can do IMO we only have three days of summer and if its hot take the targa roof off.

It weighs a ton, the pipes mess up your engine bay no end looks wise, you get better cooling without it, you can use the hole in the bulkhead to run your cables through!!!.

I never thought I would delete mine but as soon as everything is in bits you can see all the pros

wheres the poll?

But, my first car was a 1990 golf GTI, with no air con, had a sunroof though. and that was hot as hell come summer. then i got a xantia 1.9td (dont laugh, i hated that car) which did have aircon till the aircon pump clutch seized. during summer i might add. so never really used it in that either. then my next car after that was a 2lt turbo pug 406. bloody rare thing. but good news is the Aircon worked in that. but was only good for clearing the windscreen in the winter. soooo

I can live with out it. but id prefer it if i ever get around to using it for what its intended for.

Ill keep it as a novelty at the moment lol (surprisingly it does still work on my 20 year old Zed)

the targa's off in summer stuck in traffic is the worst senerio i can think of..windows up and ice cold air on your face is bliss:bow::bow:

Would never remove mine. EVER. It's part of what makes the car the luxo-GT that it is. :)

I can't actually remember the last car I had that didn't have air con. My AC is always on. Keeps the inside of the cabin fresh and especially in the winter, keeps the windows de-misted in my daily drivers. Couldn't live without AC now. Nor cruise control.

Git.

It looked good when lowered to its lowest setting with its hydropneumatic suspension shame you cant drive it like that though, and it ran on pure rapeseed oil when it was £1.65 per 3 litres in tescos (the looks i used to get when filling that up was funny as hell) which gave better performance, a cleaner engine and the constant smell of donuts wafting out of the tail pipe.

Just wasn't very good for carting around a pregnant woman with the magic carpet ride feel of it.

My reasoning is the same as Legrath's really, weight saving, and tidying the engine bay. If I got hot I'll take the roof off or open the windows

so true

Worst scenario I can think of too.

Especially the "having targas" bit:innocent:

I can see this is going to be a long thread:biggrin:

Bit like the fastest colour, turbos-no turbos, slicktop- targa wars of old:punk:

Worst scenario I can think of too.

Worst case I could think of would be sat in a car with a tin roof and no AC. :wack:

You forgot the nylon Y fronts!

It's part of what makes the car the luxo-GT that it is. :)

I agree. However I dont have a Luxo-GT like most Z's...... I have a Slicktop

Worst case I could think of would be sat in a car with a tin roof and no AC. :wack:

Dont worry Si there is no danger of you being invited to sit in my car.:mac1:

..you and them tin tops

Just so....

My air con never worked on my last z (light front end before I got it, pipe broke) which I owned for 6 and 1/2 years. On my latest z it needs re-gassing which is going to cost (anyone know a rough figure?) so IF it's going to cost a bit then its going to get uninstalled :tongue_smilie:

Dont worry Si there is no danger of you being invited to sit in my car.:mac1:

Goos job! You stink anyway! :p

I'm with you Bri.....

......it's part and parcel of a top line GT car. In fact nearly every car comes with a/c nowadays so why be without it?

I wouldn't buy any car now that didn't have a/c.......

Richard:cool3:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
