Yes, honestly! I had an enjoyable trip to Halfrauds tonight.

Needed a new battery and a rear wiper blade for my girlfriends saxo.

So i trotted upto my "local" store (30 miles away!) in my overalls and dirty, oily fleece.

Strolled into the shop and the first thing the guy at the desk asked was "Do you have a traders card?" I hadn't even asked for anything yet!

I replied that i didnt and he looked a bit bemused. He asked what i worked as and when i explained what i do, he said if i could prove it, I would be entitled to a Trader's Card.

Well, long story short, They gave me a traders card and this is where i was shocked.

They gave a Bosch Battery and Wiper Blade (which would normally total £113.98) for £60.49.

I was over the moon!

Couldnt believe how much of a discount that i got just for showing a pay slip!

Just had to share that with you guys!

just goes to show how much they mark them up by.

Thats what i thought. A £103 battery for just over £56.....£47 profit!

I got one a while back, definately makes a difference!

As an example of mark-up:

I used to work for a Chrysler dealer. We bought a windscreen for a Neon, retail price £460 +vat. we got it for £370 + vat (or there abouts). when it arrived from USA I checked it off, and they had left the original invoice inside. Chrysler in USA had bought them off their suppliers for $100. Oh yeah, that price was for FOUR :smash:

Why was the battery £103???

I got the supra pne and the fto one for £70 each??

Traders card does sound good though might see if i cn get one :walkman:

Not really sure why it was £103. Came with a 4 year guarentee. :s

Yeah so did mine and it was the uprated one filled with somting else. The normal ones were £62 or somthing like :lol:

hi ime brian and ime a scouser..now what sort of qualifacation do you need:D..joelyP you service aircraft do ya??? well ile get you paperwork to prove you fly the mofo's;)..now who wants a halfords trade card???:rofl::rofl:

These traders cards are good as i have one also but i just didnt think they were that good :) Thats a great discount you got oh and i told them that im an army mechanic (which i am) and they didnt ask for any id or qualifications. I think it may just be possible for anyone to get one on a good day

Its because its not really trade prices really.Joe public gets his pants yanked down to his ankles, halfords trade card holders pants only get to the knees.

The prices are so inflated in the first place they can afford to drop the massive mark up.

I think that is the first time I have ever heard someone say they had an enjoyable trip to Halfords...You certainly dont get that from my local London branch...

I wanted a new GTO battery, halfrauds price started at £96,

Genuine battery from mitsubishi dealer....£55, even with the vat it was a bargain.
