Three and a half years ago i gave my car and £500 to a certain person to perform a rebuild.I supplied all the parts (Wiseco pistons,Eagle rods,Cometic Headgaskets,Tomie Cams,Greddy TD 05 18G turbos,Pentroof manifolds,AEM ECU etc etc)Then four months ago i got a phone call from him saying he was having financial difficulties and couldnt pay the rent on his unit. Now knowing from a third party my engine was complete and ready to go in i paid him a further £500.

Well after excuse after excuse i finaly had an email from him last Saturday saying that he had payed the rent up in full and was waiting for the keys and i could collect my car at that time.

Not believing this i made some inquieries of my own and spoke to the unit next door who informed me that the garage had been broken into on two occasions and the tennent when informed could not make the 3 miles becouse he had no transport.

My next move was to contact the landlord who was very obligeing and just wants the unit empty.as the rent has not been paid and he has another tennent waiting to go in.

However i am not alone here as i know of another 2 people who have parts and cars there.

I am meeting with the landlord and the police Friday morning to examin the unit and do an invitory.

I have emailed the said mechanic to be there also but with no reply.

I will keep you all informed when i return on Friday.

good point!:thumbup1:

I'm sorry to hear of your problem Steve - and I fully respect your decision to allow the culprit to remain unnamed for the time being.

I hope you get things sorted with the minimum of fuss.

Good luck mate!

Richard:no:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Sorry to hear of the problems. I thought you'd managed to get the car back a while ago - i hadn't realised the "culprit" still had it!

I had a similar problem with mine, as Smithy said, one man garages not having the business management / financial backing to be able to do big builds as it kills the cashflow.

Thankfully mine was resolved amicably with all the work done, but did take 3 years too...

I would keep an eye on ebay see if any of your stuff turns up..

the "culprit" aint that daft mate;)

Noway, he still has it?!?

Yours went in the same time ish as mine.

Sorry to hear of your bad news. Why is it always the ones trying to do the big builds?

i haven't heard 1 good feed back from that place... i really hope it all gets sorted bud without any loss. i'v been in a similar boat and remember the emotions well... a car is generally the second most expensive financial investment you ever make, mix that with pride and joy and i think lorenzo's suggestion is fitting!

absolutely gutted for you and the others put through all this...

chin up matey

The first is choosing to have a female in your life:surrender::gunsmilie:

I have every sympathy with the frustration and even anger of the people whose cars are involved here , I really do . But , please spare a thought for the man at the centre of all this vitriol . Does anyone really think that he set out to " rip people off " ? Here`s a guy who used to give expert advice freely on this website . And I think it was well appreciated , and rightly so . To start up a new business is a risky venture . OK , it went bad , but does anybody really think that is what he wanted ? He must be suffering enough without everyone jumping on the bandwagon . Put yourselves in his shoes for just a moment . We`re all human , nobody is perfect . I hope it all gets resolved for everyone concerned .

IMO;

How can you feel sorry for somebody like that tho. He would have known if he was capable of the build, oviously he wasnt so instead of getting greedy for the cash he should have just said he couldnt carry out the job, im sure he would have been more respected for that.

Im sorry but if somebody says he can do the job and you pay them and they take your money for it..............and it turns out they couldnt do the job, they deserve all they get!

free advice and taking somones hard earned and parts are two completely different things, i always got on with him, but to do that is inexcusable

This sort of thing is not about how you run a business, but how you deal with failure. If done right you can retain your respect, if done wrong, (and this sounds wrong) then you deserve all you get. That said, surely anyone who leaves their car with someone for years, and it has been public knowledge that others have been in the same situation, and that the business has been struggling in recent times, i.e., rumours of closing down, then you need to take some responsibility for the position you now find yourself. I hope it's resolved amicably but reading through I cannot see that happening. The Police will only be involved with regard to the 'break in', the rest will be a civil action, i.e. you taking the said person to court to recover your losses.

ok someone needs to tell me who this is (PM), it seems like a well know member or is it Ztech again:scared:

It's pretty easy to find out by searching. Sorry it's come to this for both parties concerned. Hope both get things resolved. :(

dont want to leave myself open to slander.

Unless he is a multi millionair (which if he has gone bust there is no chance of lol) there is no way in hell he can do you for slander. Its possibly the most expencive legal battle (more so than legal costs for murder cases) he could choose.

He wouldnt be able to use pre-paid lawyers (house insurence etc) as they would never take it on as vertually no one ever wins those cases.

Infact I doubt he'd ever get any lawyer to take it on unless as already said he had millions to throw into a pot himself.

Name away if you like

The clue is in the 'person who used to provide masses of technical assistance' about a couple of years ago on this forum.:duffer: a clue.
