Just out of interest, how much did you spend on your zed when you bought it.

I know mine was a total bargain and fully working, needed the odd bit of cosmetic stuff on the outside, nothing major, any work ive done myself, the most expensive was doing the clutch. £200.

M reg UK TT Manual £1500. everything working and it still gets used every single day.:hyper:

'93 UK TT Manual

Sig3.jpg

Previous Owner bought for £10,000 in 2000 from SE Nissan.

then £32,000 spent on it between 2001 - 2005.

I bought it in 2006 for £8,600 and have put about £4K into it.

Import/black/TT/Auto

Bought for 4k in February '09 spent £300 on a brake service/new pads and a few bits at Zedworld, made friends with a lampost in July and awaiting insurance payout. (We are currently haggling around the £3.5k mark)

I bought my manual slicktop last year for £2500 and spent probably another £2000 on repairs (new custom exhaust, tyres, suspension parts etc).

Of course registering it here in Ireland attracted another €1600 ish in bloody penal VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax)

First Z32tt manual 1991 French spec LHD 10K in 1996 spent 1.5K on servicing, exhaust (GDS) and Strosek front plus 2K on respray (insurance claim - as Transporter hit bridge and car glass rained down on my car).

Current Z32tt 1995 manual Fresh jap import -£6K 2 years ago, nothing spent so far.

I try not to spend more on a car than what it is worth.

Didnt know there was a frnech spec.

Cars are never worth what you pay for them anyways, only go down in value as soon as your off the forcourt.lol!

paid £500 off ebay for my 2+2 jap spec 300zx N/A, came free with the exhaust i brought, double induction kit, lowered, so far spent £1000 picking it up from the western isles just off the coast of Scotland, £50 on MOT and another £190 on tax.

Should be reaching the 2k figure soon, as i need to replace the dash board due to someone cutting a hole in it to fit a speaker (directly in line with the center console) need to replace a rear panel for the same reason, and re skin the seats.

Which is why I said I "try not to" which is very difficult with a car like a Z especially with their tuning potential.

However, that is not strictly true of secondhand cars, new 99% of the time, but secondhand, collectable cars can and sometimes do hold their value and can even appreciate in value, it is just that regarding Z's at the moment their values are in freefall partly due to the economy and also because the market was flooded with cheap imports, as I have said earlier the European market is more representative of what I think Z's should really be worth and it is not uncommon for LHD Z32's to go for 15K plus.

I think the key here is to buy a car of as close to your ideal spec as possible in the best condition you can afford at its market value at the time, with a view to spending nothing on it except for basic maintenance which again is easier said than done.

It looks like some of the more shrewd guys on this thread so far have managed to do just that.

And yes the car was French spec in as much as it was supplied new by a French Nissan dealer, right down to the yellow reflectors in the headlights, it had a UK / European spec type rear bumper, (which I still have as I replaced it with a cleaner looking Jap spec one) I guess as they are all LHD's in Europe it could have been called a European spec with some French Nissan touches like the headlight reflectors, owners manual and a few stickers that were in French.

Interestingly they still go for very good money in France, which in real terms means that apart from the cost of the money my old one would not have depreciated at all, especially as it has cost approximately £2000 to maintain to date since I bought it in 1996.

abit of banter....................just depends how the person takes it thats all:rolleyes:

When I originally looked at mine there were a few problems with it very tiny nit picking ones. I did'nt really want it but has just travelled about 120 miles, and took me months to find a uk manual with leather.

It was up in the trader for £5,500 so I said don't take offence bud I'll offer you 4,800.....

he paused for a few minutes then said 4,850!

Alright then, drove it home lol

edit.......was in november 2003
