Does anybody?!  Does sound like the PTU. They're not easy to test as they are very temperature sensitive usualy so best way would be to swap it with another. Anybody local can help out?

A A jobsworth
I've broken down a couple of times out in the sticks and phoned for recovery only to have to wait 2 hours whilst being told the guy is on the way and should be about 45 minutes. On arrival it's not an AA van but the local garage who's been subcontracted and called out in the early hours with some muppet who's half asleep from being dragged out of bed and taking no interest or care with my car. I told him I'd been waiting 2 hours and he said the AA only called him half an hour ago! Apparently my area doesn't have full cover in the evenings so they subcontract. I might as well use Green Flag or whatever they're called now for the same type of service at a third of the price!

Import Tax from goods bought in USA
Traders are legally obliged to declare what goods they are shipping on a customs form. If it's something small and gift-like then they may do you a favour and mark it as such but if you order a heap of parts from a well known car spares shop then they know they won't get away with it and risk getting fined. Is a PTU, injectors and some harness parts coming from Courtesy Nissan really going to fool anyone that it's a gift? They can and do open your packages. You pay VAT + a percentage based on the type of item being imported. I usually count on paying just over 20% and if it gets through without the tax man spotting it then that's a bonus.

Ecu
'95 cars onwards have a different ECU (16bit instead of 8bit) which is far harder to get upgraded as it's not a standard chip. They are still a straight swap though.

boost jets have gone in
But was it a recon box or just another second hand one that was already worn? I wouldn't spend £1500+ on an auto box unless you really prefer it. You can get the manual bits for around £500 to £600 quid and pay someone to do it.

Sorry but this is all cr@p from a few unlucky members. I ran my Jap spec auto at 17psi with no oil cooler for nearly 2 years with no problems before the clutches started slipping and I really give my car a hard time. I've done boost/ECU upgrades on around 35 Z's with nobody mentioning their auto box has died shortly after. but... on EVERY MANUAL Z i've done the stock clutch has started slipping within a month, many on the drive home! Some of these auto boxes are heading for 17 years old so what do you expect when you stick an extra 50bhp through them and start thrashing them? There's a lot of 15 year old Z's showing 35000 miles too which is obviously B.S and changed on the way over from Japan... they've probably done more like 100,000 at that age. Sure, go for a manual conversion if your box has died as it's cheaper in the long run if you're keeping the car to just replace a clutch but there's nothing wrong with the auto box (especially if you fit the recommended cooler to a Jap spec). It's also worth considering a HKS ALC which speeds up the changes and is meant to reduce wear on the clutch packs as it doesn't slip as much between changes.

Probably but it should hold the power easy. Chances are it was on the verge of slipping anyway.

the Z shut off on the highway!!!!!
Not much but come and drive the M25 here when you're over if you want a laugh. Does the engine sound like its trying to start or is it just turning over and not firing at all? Take the plugs out one by one and see if you get a spark when you turn it over? ECU diagnostics might show a faulty PTU if it's a serious fault with it.

Family Oriented Meet This Summer
LOL At least I'm capable of producing kids! Are we having an Easter meet so you can bring Eggy junior along? :D and by the way, this was my idea months ago for the Ferrybridge "stand in a cold motorway service station car park bored stiff before driving to another photogenic car park" meet! LOL

Alton Towers would be good and is pretty central. But: I doubt we'd be allowed to have a BBQ in the grounds. Mac and Chunk wouldn't fit in any of the rides

pc help again
LOL Depends if the sound card is seperate or built into the motherboard. Either way it's a pain in the arse cos it won't be easy to find unless it happens to say SoundBlaster on it or something obvious which I doubt as XP would have discovered it  You need someone local who knows what they're looking for to open it up. Easiest way on your own is to buy a sound card and plug it in then install the disk it comes with LOL
-
pc help again
Just needs the sound driver software installing then. It must be an unusual old card if XP doesn't find it automatically. Best way is to open it up and see what model of card it is and do a search for the drivers but if you're not a techie then forget it... Call a friend!
