  1. do you have a seperate boost gauge fitted? do you have a boost controller (gadget in car!) or boost jets? (restrictors in pipes?) what does the boost gauge read? the in car one seems to read around 12psi as standard (which is 9.5psi i think) you really do need a good quality aftermarket boost gauge if your gonna mess with your boost though :)
  2. done it myself on mine (installed boost jets/mig tips that is) you *REALLY* dont want to run 1.5 bar though on a otherwise stock zed!!!

yeah, they are not in the emissions database so are therefore tested as a non cat car, uk or import. (unless your lucky enough to have a 95 on model, then they are subject to a default cat test)

the zed is tested as a non cat car, so emissions should not be a problem unless you have major problem!
  5. i was thinking of keeping my golf when i got my zed, but once you work out the cost of running another car, insurance, petrol, servicing etc it actually ended up costing me more - & id rather drive my zed! ;)
  6. your not having high idle speed problems by any chance? my mpg started to drop when my idle speed increased, traced it to dodgy connectors on the engine temp sensor. (even though they looked ok in the connector) just a thought.
  7. around 400 bhp ;) . induction, exhaust, lightweight flywheel, chip, 1 bar boost
  8. silly i know, but are you using the latest/correct drivers?
  9. mine was low fluid level FWIW
  10. i find it odd about the ride TBH, i find my zed is actually quite smooth & quiet for what it is! certainly a better ride than my Golf gti with lowered & uprated suspension! are you sure the suspension is up to scratch? or have you gone ott with springs & shocks? howabout replacing with new stock items. are all the bushes in good condition? how/where is it noisey ? (turn the stereo up! :D  )
  11. i put £30 of optimax in at a time & get 140-160 miles out of it. including driving hard every now & then ;)
  12. testers opinion mate. most things that need to be judged for wear should only be reason for rejection if wear is "excessive" & replacement is necessary.
  13. smithy. im a mot tester bud. PAS leaks are a failure only if you can actually see the fluid leaking out (not just wet) propshaft - not part of the test O2 sensor - as long as it passes the emmisions test then no failure (you cant actually fail it on the sensor) did you get an emmisions printout with the mot? tyres must be a min 1.6mm across the centre 3/4 of tread - the outer edges CAN be bald & still pass! cam cover - not part of mot front doors must open from both inside & out crank - not part of mot Track rods & ends must be considered *excessive* wear coolant hoses - not part of mot the MOT test is a *very* low standard actually & should never be used to judge a vehicles overall mechanical soundness. hope you get it sorted, if you want any more info on the mot i will help all i can. Paul

a descent tool shop- there just mig welding tips. get 1.2, 1.1, & 1.0mm (2 of each) start at the largest & check against a good (not stock!! ) boost gauge. i couldnt get hold of 1.1 which prob would have been most suitable for mine so i am running 1.0mm ones, its just a little too high TBH. (but fun :D )
  17. I'm still waiting for the day when they fit Ctrl Alt & Delete keys on car steering wheels :D oh, & I found a couple of beer mats under the 16k expansion pack used to work a treat :D
  18. new rear steering rack arms (the joints wear) & a wheel alignment cured mine with new tyres
  19. fwiw, autodata give 4.6hrs to remove & install the gearbox, so it cant be too bad :( water pump 4.2 hrs
  20. I used Olive Oil once, Popeye got really mad. :D
  21. well, actually it is now! :D just thought id share. was bored today in my lunch break so i thought id investigate why it wasnt working. removed the control unit (in the drivers door) & found a cracked solder joint. resoldered that up & cleaned the contacts on the mini relays. hey presto, one touch now works :)
  22. mines only ever let me down once - failed PTU, which is a common problem. some others here have had more than thier fair share though :(
