  1. The new ML is a really nice vehicle - get a facelift one if poss (mid/late 08 onwards from memory). Look for one with COMAND & telephone installation if poss - later facelift vehicles have basic bluetooth built in - early cars do not & need full phone prep. Both of these options are sought after & will help sell the car if you ever want to sell it. CDI versions are the most popular - the 320 CDI is probably the most common model we see - if you want some fun & can get one then the 420 V8 twin turbo CDI has enough torque to raise the Titanic!! :D We see problems with the V6 CDI turbos failing - big bucks when the actuator goes although I have now found a company that can repair these rather than fitting a new turbo at around £1600 seal off the turbo leaks into the inlet port actuator - kills the motor & needs replacing. A new seal fitted early on will prevent this failure. see a few gearbox issues - new electrical repair kit will usually cure this problem. rear shocks are prone to leaking Airmatic vehicles ride nice but suspension failure can be costly Let me know if you find one & I can run the VIN number to check history etc :)
  2. lets hope so I will update on these new test items if I get any further information :)
  3. looks like on our cars (not in the database) up to 95 you will be ok: On vehicles that qualify for a full cat emissions test, check the presence of the catalytic converter. our cars do not have a full cat test - as its not in the database (unless that has changed LOL) then you carry out a BET test (Basic Emissions Test) - if itr fails you carry out a non cat test. So I would assume we would be ok (upto mid 95 registered cars) as we only need a non cat test
  4. section 1.7 - but now I have read through it properly it looks like items only need to be tested if actually installed. looks like we may be OK after all on the HID kit front! :) Information: Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system. Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given. Headlamp washers may work in conjunction with the windscreen washers (when the dipped beam headlamps are switched on) or by a separate switch. HID lamps may be identified by:  taking a few seconds to reach full intensity  having a bluish tinge to the light  having an igniter module/inverter behind the headlamp  having ‘DCR’ marked on the headlamp lens. HID headlamps use high voltage and extra care should be taken when inspecting these items. Method of inspection: Where HID or LED dipped beam headlamps are fitted, switch on the headlamps and check the operation of any headlamp levelling and cleaning devices fitted. Reason for rejection A headlamp levelling or cleaning device inoperative or otherwise obviously defective.
  5. thought I would give you a heads up - there has been a lot of rumours about what is going to change - here is the official 2012 testing manual (will not come into effect until 1st Jan 2012): http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/MOT%20Inspection%20Manual.pdf Changes include: HID kits will now be a failure :cursing:as they need to have headlamp washers and a self levelling feature removal of cats where one was fitted as standard ball joint rubber boots are now a testable item & will fail if split PAS fluid level testable ESP warning lights on SRS warning lights on TPMS warning lights on Engine mounts (FWD vehicles only?) drivers seat adjustment works Battery now testable & any visible wiring tow bar electrics testable No mention of testing for chip tuning - something that was discussed.
  6. extra torrent I find is good
  7. yea - and while were at it lets go back to manual windows, manual seats, points & condensor, carbs etc etc etc lets stop progression NOW!! would be far easier for me anyway!! bloody networked CAN systems, LIN bus systems, having to check for PWM signals with a scope rather than just using a good old test light. In fact lets go back to a horse & cart! :whistling::lol:
  8. we charge 2 hours labour at my garage (merc dealer) for a full 4 wheel alignment with all adjustments. will make a huge difference when set up correctly if yours is out!
  9. yea - its always slow going the first day they release an OS upgrade! Will do mine tomorrow!

  11. so.........anyone finished installing IOS 5 ?? just got a text through saying I can now sync with itunes to unlock my phone to any network - will do that & update my 3GS tomorrow :)
  12. agreed - have used jewelers rouge before & it does create a distortion like looking through a lens where you take the glass back, its not so bad on a light mark on the side windows but on the front screen is not a good result!
  13. no - on the Mercs it works at any speed - vehicles need a secondary emergency brake in case your pedal falls off or something! LOL! On our cars it brakes slowly at first & only applies probably around 25% max braking effort
  14. We use EPB's on Mercedes - while the vehicle is moving it actually applies the service brake & not the parking brake for a secondary emergency brake. It only operates for as long as you press the switch. I would have assumed that most other manufacturers used a similar principle but dont know for sure?!
  15. sorry - my girlfriends already got first dibs!! :D yea - was impressed with the iphone 4 camera & the display is lovely compared to my 3GS - 4S camera supposed to be even better still! cant wait until friday!! :hyper:
  16. just a quick tip - not sure if many people realise: on a pay monthly contract phone, once you are out of contract the provider should if possible unlock your phone for free. I read about this on tinterweb a while back & phoned O2 today to get my iphone unlocked so I can pass it on. quick call & they are sending a code that you put into itunes that will unlock to any network next time I plug in. they said they can unlock most phones like this now once you are out of contract. Just though I would share :)
