  1. Yes they are - but only by stupid numpties who don't understand the phrase "urban legends" and can't use Google. And that was in 2005, 2005 and 2006 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_east/6168916.stm http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0200wales/tm_headline=soaring-car-crime-blamed-on-urban-myth&method=full&objectid=18131297&siteid=50082-name_page.html
  2. You need to check on the Australian forum http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/ as the laws for importing cars are very different to here. Getting car models which were never officially imported into Oz is expensive and horribly complicated. Last time I looked (which was a couple of years ago) the only sensible thing was to buy one out there.
  3. Wasn't Top Gear - it was a DVD called Hot Metal http://www.imcdb.org/movie_940675-Clarkson--Hot-Metal.html :D Silver ones are fastest...
  4. Yep, yep and yep
  5. Not if you clicked on the link....
  6. Damn - you're right. Welcome to the pedant-in-training club! There is a TG where the ZClubbers brought a bunch of Zs from 240 right up to 300 Z32 and he was most uncomplimentary about everything except the 240Z. I'll try to find it....
  7. http://www.300zxtt.co.uk/chassisnos.htm GZ = NA 2+2 GCZ = TT 2+2 CZ = TT 2 str
  8. I'll get back to you on that one. But here's TG to be going on with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNta7RQVFyY (OK I got that wrong - but he still doesn't like Zs and hates bikes...)
  9. I was trying to think of some funny post which would encourage all those who love / drive Zs/Zxs to write / email / text / contact Top Gear and point out that JC's hatred of our beloved cars was perhaps a little extreme and could we have just the occasional little featurette (eg remember the new Audi TT test from last week - up against the Mazda 4 door and an Alfa something. Where was the 350Z?). However, he just chainsawed a Ducati off the cool wall (well done Hamster for daring to mention anything with two wheels - and for riding a 'blade) simply for being a bike. Well, I'm sorry but, Clarkson, you're a tosser for being so biased about Zs and bikes. And, fellow petrolheads, if Clarkson is not exactly on the right wavelength about Zs (and bikes), perhaps he is not always as right about everything else as he thinks he is. Anyhow, I'm older than him, poorer and faster up the dragstrip - at least I love my Z.
  10. No certainly not - as I said, I used to have one. Golf GTi - especially the original series - is a damn fine car. And most GTi drivers are OK. Just this one was such a complete f*ckwit....
  11. Allo, gents, (& clarkmagpie) you're both so right but I have to admit I couldn't face going through the form-filling hell. I know, I know - I used to have one but even I couldn't drive that badly. I know what you mean but the dash is actually a reflection in the windscreen. And before you ask, officer, the picture was taken at speed by the driver with her right hand while she was on the mobile jammed between ear and shoulder with the other hand doing something for me which I couldn't possibly relate on a family website such as this - and she wasn't looking at the road anyway because she needed to change the CD from Status Quo to Wishbone Ash. (News Quiz had finished and I was saving the Archers for Sunday omnibus - these things are important, you know).

Good luck - don't accept any lifts in a USA heli... be safe
  13. Oi, sunshine - you and yer crappy Golf GTi. You, sir, are a complete arsewipe. Kindly learn to drive somewhere away from your elders and betters and stop being such an arrogant, dangerous little prick. :nono: When that series of arrows in your lane points you left, that means you must give way and merge with due consideration to road users already in the left lane. Not behave like the moron you are. I've got your number and have seen you around Slough before so mend your ways before divine retribution descends upon you. And by the way, if there are any boys (or girls) in blue reading, here is an instant easy collar. The little sh1t's left hand rear brake light is u/s so that'll help your ticket target this month. Spotted at about 18:50 on the A412 from the M40 toward Slough just where the road narrows and where little fckwits like this shouldn't be driving on the chevrons to overtake politely queuing traffic. And yes, I'll be a witness. He buggered off to Slough after that hideous Beefeater on the roundabout where the A412 turns back into dual carriageway in Iver Green. Whereas I, like a good citizen drove toward Langley in a law-abiding fashion. And then got cut up by a little Audi something who was doing 50 in a 30 and shot through a red light. Clearly not my night. If I see him again, it's blue light time...
  14. Thanks guys - having located and checked some tyre pressure stickers of both types, the short answer is JDM = UK = 33 front 36 rear despite the differences in rear tyre/wheel widths. The long answer (with pics and a table) is here .

  17. Apologies but when I googled these pads, the first ref I found said So I checked again and found the main Porterfield site http://www.porterfield-brakes.com/about.html which says the same thing BUT also says Sorry - I hadn't read far enough down to the "street compound" bit. But you can see why I made the race assumption oops my bad :nelson:
  18. You're never going to get (and keep) enough heat into race pads to make them work effectively on normal roads. Checking your calipers / pistons, new brake fluid and braided hoses are all good ideas in any case but neither these nor upgrading a servo will address the fundamental issue that race pads are less-than-ideal for roads.
  19. Wed: go to Haydock Park in the dry. Thur: drive around a lot in the snow. Fri: drive back home back thru the Midlands in the snow to merry Heathrow. Gosh what fun. Maybe this is a plus side to stock Zeds :hyper: If you're still nervy about driving your Zed in slippy (rain / snow / ice) conditions then either your mods are perhaps a little extreme for a daily driver or there's a mechanical problem or you should improve your skills (which makes you faster / safer in any conditions anyway so there's nothing to lose) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roadcraft-Drivers-Handbook-Home-Office/dp/0113408587 http://www.iam.org.uk/ also skidpans, any reputable fast driving course etc. Learn and enjoy :D
  20. there's yer problem :p
  21. Hi Danny, just to confirm you have a problem somewhere. I was out and about yesterday Manchester > Heathrow and my JDM 1990 Series 1 was warm and toasty. Agree with suggestions above - plus maybe some contact cleaner and/or sensor check. Is your Series 11 heating ECU orig? If not, maybe the conversion is where a problem has started. Good luck - Gio
  22. you already get two valves as standard - the recircs do a better job than after market BOVs http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/bov.html
  23. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=87508&highlight=hid Fitting PIAA bulbs makes a difference (out of date pics here http://www.300zxtt.co.uk/bulbs.htm ). Cleaning your headlights (I haven't done mine yet oops) is also good and should be done if you want to get the full benefit of any new bulbs HID or otherwise. http://www.aus300zx.com/tech/headlight_disassembly/headlight_disassembly.htm
  24. This was one of the many things in the "must write it up one day" pending tray so here goes. Starting with the fact that beauty is in the eye of the beholder so have whatever you like. I nearly got a 99 when mine was being rebuilt after a write-off. And here are a few of the pics I used to help me decide. 1) The neatest and cleanest: US front end, no plate, dark gray infill. 2) 99 spec with low mounted UK plate. 3) 99 spec with top mounted UK plate (usual position) 4) JDM import with UK plate mounted on JDM mount. ALso note that this one has the fairly common body colour repaint over the dark gray original infill 5) JDM but with UK plate mount and dark gray infill restored. Since 4 and 5 are mine before and after you can see which way I decided. Why? I started out wanting to update the look and I had seen a couple of 99 spec updates in the flesh which looked very nice. But every time I went round it photoshopping away merrily, I realised I preferred the original. After a lot of thought, I came to the conclusion that the original designers had it right with their "wide-mouthed-frog" look. Between the first design and the 99 spec, the Supra (and others) came along with their "whale-mouth" design. And so they brought the front end of the Z into line with that look - not unsuccessfully. Even though the whale-mouth looks good, the old version (with the infill) gives it a lower, leaner aspect in comparison. They used some of the standard designer tricks - in particular, horizontal stripes to accentuate the width and put a contrasting stripe there to minimise the height. (If you notice, no 4 looks a little less low-slung because it doesn't have that dark stripe to break up the front like no 5 does. And the effect is minimised on darker Zeds as the contrast strip is less noticeable.). It's the same thing as fat people shouldn't wear horizontal stripes because that makes them look shorter and wider than they really are. So if you want your car's front end to look lower and wider, have a light Z with original front; if you want more of the whale-mouth effect, go with the 99 spec.
