  1. http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/hidheadlamps As far as I can tell, this is still only the DfT's "view" and I can't find any actual case law which has confirmed / thrown out this "view". Do you want to be the first? Don't mix up MOT and Construction & Use Regs. MOT will fail "The headlamp does not emit a light which is substantially WHITE or YELLOW in colour" and also beam patterns which don't comply http://www.motuk.co.uk/mcmanual_160.htm If anyone claims HIDs are "MOT legal" that's just because there is nothing in the MOT which specifically mentions HID and therefore the MOT of itself can't fail just because it's HID. And you're as stupid to believe them as they are to claim it. Interesting debate on plod and bmw forums (never ever thought I'd type those words.. :) ) http://www.ukpoliceonline.co.uk/index.php?/topic/32360-illegal-retrofitted-hid-conversion-kits/ http://www.bmwcarclubforum.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=674&PN=1 It appears the only 100% legal HIDs are those in Type Approved E Marked headlight units and there aren't any of those for the 300ZX. OK, the 99 300ZX did have xenons but I don't know if they were E Marked - I guess not as never imported into EU.
  2. They're not making it right, in that case.
  3. Blimey. My stock TT manual gave 17-19 in town (including A40/406 traffic jam commute), 24 - 27 motorway, overall average 20-21.
  4. :smartass: but correct  :D
  5. and some more here http://www.300zx.org.uk/tech_20.htm
  6. funniest thing I've heard this week. I've got lambo lights on the front, is that OK?
  7. AndyP, looks like you might have a second customer for the fuel economy thing... http://www.pexcom.com/images/z32_fuel_economy.html
  8. There's always a write-up somewhere and a pretty good index to them here: http://www.300zx.org.uk/tech_18.htm To put a TT into an NA, listen to what Lymon says. Or to quote from TwinTurbo net "1. It IS possible and has been done. 2. It's NOT easy. 3. It's NOT cheap. 4. It's much less economical than selling the NA and buying a TT, especially if you're not doing the work yourself. 5. To do it effectively, it's a good bet to have a spare wrecked TT around to pilfer parts from." More links, parts lists etc http://www.z1motorsports.com/PDFs/NATTconversion.pdf http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=main&msg_id=737844 http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=main&msg_id=740530
  9. Aha! Not the first time... http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=1401823&postcount=4 and what happened when I did my rear speakers http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=97522&highlight=stereo http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=97444&highlight=stereo rear amp location acc to Daves_Zed http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=1401828&postcount=7 I just re-read those old threads and just realised the original wiring diag that I based mine on was kindly supplied by Daves_Zed in the first place! Credit where credit's due :thumbup1: HTH - Gio
  10. erm, pop the covers off and there they are.
  11. UK rear shocks are expensive as they have the adjustable actuators http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=19332 but JDM ones don't have - they can use cheaper non-adj ones. Available ex stock in UK. Can't remember if na and tt are different.
  12. Are you sure you're counting right? That page says 12. The codes will begin to flash. Theres one long flash that signifies the start of the sequence. Following should be 10 short flashes. Then it repeats. So that's 1 + 10 Doesn't stack up with "got 2 flashes slow then 7 fast flashes" which is 9?

  14. Last space warp leak I had was into the rear passenger footwell. Took ages to find, lots of hose work etc. Not sure if it's totally cured yet but seems better. Water was getting into the load area at the back, dripping down the side of the bodywork under the trim, pooling and then running forward under the carpet and back seat to sit in the rear passenger footwell. Worth lifting the carpet in a few places to see if your impossible lake has a similar cause. BTW It's not the usual drip soaking your right arm, is it? Anyway, the apparent cure for this leak was a realignment of the tailgate. Think it's been fairly dry since.
  15. When my Dec 93 NA 2+2 developed a misfire on cylinder #6, I learnt a lot more about injectors than I ever wanted to know. In about 48 hours. I pass this on in case it's useful to anyone else. The original fault appeared to be a break in the wiring. That was traced and fixed but still the injector didn't come back. The informed opinion is that the arcing across the break as the original fault got worse caused the injector itself to fubar. There are two types of injector: early and late; or Phase 1 and Phase 2 on some websites. The changeover was late 1993 or "model year 1994". Someone with access to FAST like Mr F will be able to tell you from your VIN for certain whether you need Phase 1 or 2. * changeover dates from Mr F: TT changed 10/94, NA date 09/93 Some US sites refer to Phase 2 being from Model Year 1995 - 1996 but I guess the US car market introduces Model Years really early! You can get a kit which allows Phase 2 injectors to be used with Phase 1 injector rails. OEM injector part numbers I found on TwinTurbo.net 16600-15V02 - NA old style injector 16600-10Y01 - NA new style injector (previously 16600-10Y00) 16600-40P07 - TT old style injector 16600-21U00 - TT new style injector NA OEM are 270cc. TT OEM are 370cc. The tops are colour coded and 270cc for Phase 2 NA are red. Also on TwinTurbo.net, I found a quote that said "“Generally when one injector fails, the others follow in short order." Plus I discovered that almost no-one has a spare injector for a Phase 2 NA. Hardly surprising: - NAs were never officially imported into UK - Phase 2 are rarer than Phase 1 in the UK (UK stopped Zeds in '94 and US in '96) - to get a single injector needs breaking a set of 6 and who wants 5 injectors? - to get any benefit, you'd need to find an engine being broken with less miles than yours, with a set of known working injectors and someone who will break the set (if you insist on only having 1 - see above) Buying new official from Nissan: £125.15 + VAT = £147.05 + delivery for ONE (and 3 weeks from Japan for the NA type since they were never officially needed in UK so not stocked here). Breaker price (if you can find them) when I looked on eBay from a known UK Z Breaker was £29.99 + delivery. Sadly for me these were TT and Phase 1. Not even the renowned Eric had any of the right version. I found that the original equipment manufacturer for the injectors for Nissan is JECS who have some link with Bosch but couldn't find any UK or Europe source. I found a company called Deatschwerks who make (remanufacture?) injectors for several marques including Nissan. They are listed by several of our usual US parts friends. There range is also listed on three UK websites I found. One of them has an "interesting" reputation which I found after googling so I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole - the other two both said "about a week to get them in" and were charging near enough dollar prices in pounds. Fair enough, that still means a complete set of 6 injectors for not much more than twice the price of 1 official Nissan one (£350 vs £148). I found and called Deatschwerks direct and they're incredibly helpful. They checked their stock and promised they could get a set out same day to be in UK within 48 hours. Claimed to be direct drop-in replacements for OEM including O-rings and a test chart. So it turned out - no problems in fitting to my Z (at least none that I've been told about). These are the guys who also do a Phase 2 to 1 conversion. After the sun got round to Phoenix Arizona, I called ConceptZ and found Coz as helpful as ever and he also had some Deatschwerks in stock. I ordered from ConceptZ as I was looking at other Z parts as well but would have been very happy to order from Chris at Deatschwerks. He even emailed me the day after my phone call to see if he could help and get the order over to me any more quickly. Of course, I could have bought just the one from Coz but since the plenum had to come off to replace the one, might as well do all of them as, knowing my luck, one of the others would go just after putting the whole lot back together. Result from Coz, they arrived in the UK at the garage less than 48 hours after I placed the order. $365 for 6 plus delivery / duty. Both Deatschwerks and ConceptZ know exactly what's needed for Z injectors - whether OEM drop-in replacement or upgrades. I have no hesitation in recommending them if you need a set of injectors like I did. And I'm still pretty convinced that changing one with a s/h replacement is probably false economy.
  16. IN fact, I've got a set of trims for my Zed but haven't had the guts to try replacing them yet so I'm glad you made me go looking :)

RTFM! http://www.300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=bf&dir=&config=&refresh=&direction=forward&scale=0&cycle=off&slide=21&design=default&total=46 or have a look at the 300zx Tech Index http://www.300zx.org.uk/tech_00.htm where you'll find a link called Exterior body molding replacement http://s95014253.onlinehome.us/63104/13701.html It's amazing how many answers are already out there collected by people (including forum members like this one) to make it easy for people to find.
  19. Usually you get the option to install on device or storage card when you install. Try uninstalling one then soft-rest then reinstall and you should see this option appear during install process. Also try the HTC forums - I've found great tips on all of these: http://www.xdasite.com/ http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php http://htcpedia.com/
  20. Yep but it is why the :nelson: smiley is called nelson. After nelson :) Speedhole (not airhole) theory is here http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=53552&postcount=13 for those with even longer memories
  21. Oh God, where's Nelson :nelson: :w00t: when you need him  Perhaps gone looking for some speedholes hahahaha
  22. Hallo Steve - go and have a look at what I posted back home. Should make you feel better :)
  23. Aaargh what can I do to rid of this image in my memory?
  24. (ok it's a Z31) evenin' all that's more like it  I'm peeved I can't find the real Japanese 300zx patrol car I found a few weeks ago. Oh well. I'll leave you with this arf arf
  25. Even a standard Z auto should have no problem with a standard Fiat 20v turbo. Fiat 220bhp, 2,881 lbs, 171 bhp/ton 300zx 2+2 TT Auto 280 bhp, 3,516 lbs, 178 bhp/ton Either Fiat was tuned or your Z needs work. Of course, auto would take a little time to kickdown/get act together compared to manual but even so.
