  1. Dont want to sound like al doom and gloom but, The epansion tank will only overflow if it gets over full (obvious really!!) 1st and cheapest possibility is knacered rad cap, water can force up under it if its knackered filling the expansion bottle. But my bet is a perished hose somewhere, the hole or holes in it can often be too small to let water out or such a fine trickle that its evaporate before it hits the floor,or sometimes only leak under a load so when you look for a leak its not there, but when your on the move loading the engine it leaks, but these holes dont just let water out, they let air in, which displaces the water, thus causing the excess to be sent to the expansion bottle. When my water pump went, or rather the seal around it did, it only leaked on the move and then only sometimes, when you stop, no leak, but when you shut it off those leaks in the seal woulds suck air in, causing the system to bubble up and make the bottle overflow. Hope this makes some sense to everyone, i know what i mean, but probably not worded it very well!! The only other cheap explanation can be that with the weather getting warmer the water gets hotter than usual, thus it expand more and takes up more MASS (nelson) thus some of it becomes surplus. HTH Good luck, i piggin hate water leaks!
  2. Indeed it does. Clarkey, so young, yet so wise. ;)

Seriously though Yas, make sure you know what your letting yourself in for, i did my water pump 2 years ago, but wasnt brave enough to swap out the cambelt. Im summoning up the courage now to do it this summer. Make no mistake, to a novice mechanic it is a lot of work. And good luck, by god you'll need it!!!! ;)

  18. The fan does create a howling sound when the viscous coupling is shagged cos it spins up at the wrong speed WHEN YOU PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN, when its slowing down when your foot is off it doesnt do it so bad. Replace the recircs if you like but you may be wasting your time and money. If i were you id rev it on the spot, see if it still does it, then switch it off, get a brave mate to hold the fan, then start her up and rev it again, if the noise is gone, its the viscous.
  19. 2 birthday posts, must be like being the Queen!!!!
  20. Have a good birthday Tony. Treat yourself, and buy yourself another zed!!!!!
  21. Cant help with an alternator, but ive got a fully reconditioned starter motor for an SW20 uk model sitting in my garage that my brother had done before selling the mr2 and moving out, so if anyone wants one, give us a shout!!
  22. Id wager its the viscous fan, they are alot louder when the weather gets warm. If it still makes the noise as bad when in neutral and not moving id bet its that. Think mine may need doing, as its sounds alot noisier in hot weather.
  23. I bet you had a neon surround really didnt you!!! Go on admit it!!
  24. Mine was this too, not full of water though, just knackered. Got a new one off ricerocket for a fiver. Now all is well again.
