Interior repairs
Hi, Im in the marketing in buying a 300zx TT. Many I have seen have holes in the dash where something had been previously mounted and removed. This makes me soooo mad! Is it possible to effectively repair these holes without it looking nasty!? Can anyone recommend somebody or a company that does such repairs at a reasonable cost?! I dont really want to go through having to fit a new dash. But if this was the case, how easy is it to fit a new dash? Anyone done it! I know im nit picking, but I want to perfect Z! Col

novice buying a Japanese Import Z.....help!
Hi Andy, im in the market in looking for a 300ZX TT. So far, here is what I have found out: 1. From 1992 they came with air bags. If you're looking for a model 1992 onwards and has a non standard steering wheel, why was it replaced. Probably because its had a prang and its cheaper to put a non standard wheel rather than the original (costs about £700 I think with airbag). 2. Check for cracks in body kit bumpers 3. If got body kit, it may have been done as often cheaper to put bodykit on rather than original bumpers if involved in a prang 4. Check if got full sevice history. Do note it will all be in Japanese and wont mean much. I believe the years are different so you must add 88 to it. For example, they have something like 18/05/01, which is the same as 2006 May 01 (18+88=106, which is 2006). I think I got this right. 5. Most models dont have alarm/immob so expect to pay for one. I will be! Oh yeah, Japanese radio works in different frequency, so you might not get all FM radios. But who cares about the radio! ;) 6. If got all the mods i.e. boost controller and so on. It may have been thrashed so take out for a spin and check if a lot of smoke is coming out of exhausts afterwards. If a lot then the turbos could be on there way out. All this is in the buyers guide above 7. 4th gear is the normally the worst gear as has the weakest syncro, see check! 8. When starting the car, make sure its from a cold start. If not, perhaps the owner has something to hide! 9. If the car is wet and it hasnt been raining, why is it wet. Perhaps the owner is covering up paint work damage! 10. If bought from an auction, check auction certificate for both interior and exterior grades. Apart from that, just check all around the car and under the car for rust or evidence of damage. I would strongly recommend getting an RAC or Dekkra 166 check car examination. Costs about £300. They check everything from the turbos, brakes, gearbox, wheels, bodywork, interior - even the radio! This is what i'll be doing but only when I think I have found the one! It's far better spending £300 than £3000 and having to spend another £2k in fixing her! Hope this helps! Col

Why I didnt buy
Yep, thats what i've heard too. If over 10 years then ok but i'll probably get it changed to MPH anyway. I didnt know that until yesterday As for the car I saw Tuesday (yesterday), it did have an MOT. It also had a rear fog light but he fitted the switch himself and looked really crap. Im gonna check out the one by Import-ance. Its grade 4, is that good? What's the highest grade for an auction? Apparently the TV in it has gone walkies :(

coilovers - a grey area
Hi guys, What has everyone done about declaring coilovers on the insurance. I have no problem declaring them as 'lowered suspension' but I have problems when declaring them as 'coilovers' Some insurance companies i.e. 'Admiral' took 2 days to find out whether they cover coilovers or not. It turned out that they dont! Is it best to declare them as adjustable suspension, lowered suspension or as coilovers and hope they know what you mean?

Protected No Claims bonus
Hi everyone, My insurance quote is £1600 for a Twin Turbo 300zx or £1900 if I want to protect my 4 years no claims bonus. Is it worth protecting my no claims for an extra £300? If I have a prang (god forbid), will my premium go up the following year even if protected?

Why I didnt buy
Very very nice. However, £9k is a bit over my budget. Im looking at around £5k - £6k. Maybe able to stretch to £6.5k. Its mainly due to the insurance, they want £1800! That cripples me!

Why I didnt buy
Not sure where JapCity is based as I went to the owner's house. He was selling it privately. Their website is http://www.japcity.com. Is this the one based in Derby? The owner said the company no longer exists and yet the car is on their website and states 'trade' on Autotrader. Things did seem very dodgy! My gut feeling was to run away immediately and dont look back! He said he bought it from Japan for £5500 (yeah right) from a trader!

Hi guys, I viewed a 300ZX Twin Turbo today and thought id publish my findings. The guy had it up for sale for £6k and is a 1994 manual. I thought for £6k it should be a very nice example! It has a few nice modifications too, such as twin Kakimoto exhausts, Greddy boost controller, Greddy turbo timer and a Blitz turbo guage. The car has coilovers, a nice looking bodykit and aftermarket alloy wheels. I went to have a look with high hopes with a massive grin on my face, itching to have a go, thinking this is too good to be true. Anyway, first impressions were good. After a good look, I found a few minor flaws. There were: 1. Had no immobiliser/alarm 2. Still in KPH (he said this is legal?) 3. Still limited to 112mph 4. Crack in front bumper bodykit 5. Some sort of alarm wire stuck all over the front windscreen. 6. Had holes in the dash board where something had been previously mounted 7. Broken wing mirror 8. The boost controller was all analog. Had no instructions either! So I knew to get these things sorted, it would cost me around a grand. The bloke is from Japcity, he said the business no longer exists. However, the car is on autotrader and states 'trade', plus the car is on their website. All sounds a bit dodgy to me. I offered him £4500 for it, expecting him to negotiate. However, he wouldnt budge a penny! I came away dissapointed because the car showed potential! Anyway, what do you think? Did I do the right thing? Im looking to buy a very good example 300zx, is anyone selling? Or has anyone seen a beauty?- MPH to KPH and Delimiter issues
Would this be ok? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nissan-300-ZX-120-MPH-Speedo-Face-Dial-300ZX-Turbo_W0QQitemZ4637046421QQcategoryZ10402QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem- MPH to KPH and Delimiter issues
Thanks guys, Im from Kent, so down south too! How much is this converter chip and where do I get one? How much to fit and where from? Also these mph stickers, do they look ok or is it better to get new dials?- MPH to KPH and Delimiter issues
Hi guys, Im viewing a 300zx tomorrow. Its all UK registered but is still in KPH and has delimiter. Whats involved in converting to MPH? Is is purely electrical or mechanical too? Secondly, how much to remove limiter and do MPH change? Any recommendations to get this conversion done?- Timing Belt or Chain?
How hard are they to fit? If very difficult to get to, how much to get fitted professionally? Im viewing a 300zx on tuesday. Its done 46,000 miles. I know the recommended time to change the belt is 60,000 miles. Is this the maximum or just the recommended mileage?- Timing Belt or Chain?
Hi guys, Dont know much about engines, but does the 300zx Z32 (1994) have a timing belt or timing chain? Thanks Col- Help with buying 300ZX
Hi, I am very interested in buying a Nissan 300ZX. I am viewing one next week. See car: click to see car What should I ask the seller? What sort of things should I be looking for? I found out that the car has been recently imported. December 2005! Should I be worried buying a car that has recently been imported? I thought Japan had the best MOT's in the world costing approx £2k every 2 years! Also, what sort of service history am I likely to see? Would it all be in Japanese and mean nothing? With the strict MOT tests, surely the car should be mint? Thanks Colin - Why I didnt buy
