1. Well i've taken a week off work to finish off the V8 so here's what i've achieved today: Started off by fit all the pistons and conrods and grinding every cylinder to fit for clearance. It took about 4 hours but i got there in the end. All pistons in: Timing chain on and cam degreed ready to test the clearance and amazingly the conrods clear the cam on every stroke, i'm so relieved!!! Conrods all attached to the crank finally: Now to test the clearance of the waterpump on the timing cover eek, works just fine with a bit of fiddling: Head number one in place and test bolted down: Both heads on now to test fit the alternator and serpentine belt pulley: Harmonic damper and bottom pulley in place: Test fit of the belt, still missing the power steering pump but gives you an idea of the fitment: Distributor in place but more to do tomorrow, more photos to follow tomorrow night. Day one over with and made huge amounts of progress :) Can't wait, end of the dry build finishes tomorrow then it's to be stripped down to the bare block and cleaned thoroughly ready to transport over to my house in lutterworth and drop it in the car:
2. Take it from someone with a seriously modified NA, TT injectors, pulleys etc: 226.5bhp at the fly and 185 at the wheels. There's no way he'll have 280bhp!
3. Almost there now buddy, a few more weeks and i'll be on for that race
4. Oh you git you beat me by a few weeks! Well done buddy, really can't wait to see it on the road :D :hyper:
5. Well i moved away and came back to possibly the worst pavements ever, they'd used recycled tarmac to cover them but instead of doing them properly they'd just slapped it on with a trowel from what i could see. As you walk on it you wobble all over the place. Total rubbish and they've done the whole town in it which is even worse. It honestly looks like they've laid it on by hand without thinking :(
6. cheeky fu.... :slap:
7. Well i've only just started driving the NA (admittedly it is pretty highly modified) and it scares the crap out of me now  God knows what i'm going to do with twice the power and twice the torque!
8. ahhh takes me back to that holiday in holland....
9. It looks like something that's come out of Beelzebub's bottom :hurl:
10. I guess, so, i was thinking of using the same setup as at the top but with the axel stands underneath front and back for safety's sake
11. Always liked these wheels. A very good choice and incredibly cheap!
12. I might have to do this myself with the V8 while i get the prop on and gearbox in under the car. It should be fairly stable like that. I can't see how axle stands can be any more sturdy when they have a smaller base area to stand on
13. Good question, i'm aiming for 450bhp at the engine
14. As Chris says, the speed limit is still 70mph on the motorway and 60mph on the main roads just depends how quick you get there. In the wet, the more bhp you have the harder it's going to be to keep control of it too.
15. I'm aiming to get about 450bhp out of the V8 after a bit of swapping and fettling of parts, it's more the torque i'm worried about! It'll rip your head off and chuck you in a ditch if you're not careful  450bhp seems to be about the right amount for the road before it gets silly. Anything beyond that and the question has to be asked, when are you going to use that on the public roads?
16. I don't think you have to be bored to enjoy that :D
17. lol, i'm only going from general opinion on these things. This is the first slicktop i've owned and i haven't even driven it yet
18. I'm quoting you on that  It's true in some ways the slicktop is tighter and best for handling but it is much twichier than the lwb. At least with the LWB you have a little warning before you end up in a ditch :D The slicktop is stiffer thanks to the metal roof and the weight is lower down in the car so it's a little less rolly poly. The V8 i'm building is a swb targa so hopefully stiffer than the lwb but with the advantage of the lighter cabin and the ability to have the roof out. A bit of a compromise between the two
19. Welcome to the club buddy, well it depends what you want out of a 300. If it's a comfortable, quick, long distance cruiser that can still hustle on the country roads then a 2+2 (the most common) is what you'll want. If it's something a bit tighter, lighter and more sports orientated then I would opt for a 2 seater "SWB" (short wheel base). There's the option of the targa top or rarer "slicktop" lighter zed. The slicktop is the choice of those wanting a sports car out of the zed. You can tell the difference by the petrol cap being "in front" of the rear wheel instead of behind it and a slightly more squat look. LWB SWB "Slicktop" (SWB non targa)
20. This is brilliant!
21. Happy birthday hon, hope you have a great day :D xxx
22. I'll have a download of those later on, good find buddy :D
