Yeah , deffo. I wouldn't go near an auto after my first Zed had one. Can't stand the things. I can see why people stuck in traffic jams everyday like them but I do everything possible to avoid rush hour, and want a manual to enjoy the buzz of driving, I love the sound of the throttle blipping on the downshifts :) especially when its accompanied by a pop and a bang on over run haha. Bit of a tangent, sorry to hijack.

Yes deffo a manual for track. What I meant is that engine breaking isn't an advisable technique to use, unless you mean heel and tow to match you revs first in which case fair enough but just changing down a gear will cause problems.

You don't need engine breaking Si, all that will do is wear your clutch the wrong way, you'll pay £500 for a clutch instead of £60 for pads! plus you can't control the weight distribution of the car doing that.

Auto is exactly ideal for enjoying track driving mind, but ok if you just want to press the big pedal and go.

VR4 owners club? One of them was in UJCC forum and was a right track junkie. He was as fast as or faster than pretty much everyone there including me in my 400bhp Zed, several high power Skylines, Supras,Evos etc. They are quality cars, although not sure how practical to run as a track car. I'd deffo consider it though and do some research.

Long hair, interviews blah blah
Yep completely agree with you. I'm an expert at not wearing uniforms, being a scruff and having big tattoos but unfortunately your expected attire in an interview room goes up and down with the wages! Go for a shelf stacking job in the local supermarket and you can wear anything you want, go for a job that pays enough money to run a sports car and you'll need to smarten up lofty! Way of the world unfortunately.

ztech??
I wouldn't want to be a Zed mechanic trying to run a business advertising on here! I'm all for openness and the rest but people have to accept that the Zed is a nightmare car to work on and problems often happen. Also people rarely seem to do a full proper rebuild because the cars are not worth all that much to begin with. I've had dealings with Ztech and there weren't any problems, I've had dealings with Zedworld and they have been exceptionally helpful even when I wasn't putting much money their way. Over the last few years we've lost traders off of here that we really shouldn't have. Zcenter, Petrol Heads North West, Zedworld, Zedtech, I'm not saying they were perfect but I'm sure they were no worse than others.

She'll scratch the paintwork with all that sand on there. Looks like a flat tyre as well.

Long hair, interviews blah blah
Problem is people who are doing interviews don't have much to go on in deciding who to hire. To start with it takes a skilled interviewer to get a proper idea of someones character, and most are not that skilled at it. Secondly you may not perform 100% yourself, so things like appearance become important.

Long hair, interviews blah blah
Its not really so much role specific as job interview specific though. I work as a network engineer in smart casuals day to day. It would be silly wearing an expensive suit. I wouldn't dream of going to an interview in anything but the smartest of clown outfits though :0 I still think the older generation would prejudice against long hair so wouldn't risk it if it was an important interview (which ones arn't?).

My neighbour's bought the A-Team van!
Best watch out for him jumping on your back from up a tree! I always thought it would be amusing if they missed the persons back and face planted on the pavement though!

Long hair, interviews blah blah
Hmm, hard one as although you are not customer facing you are in one of those jobs that people generally expect to be smart. I'd say you would get away with it as long as it was tied up neatly, but probably better if it was the usual boring short back and sides?

Little Red Maybe Dead
Thats sh*t mate, sorry to see that. Excuse the vulture manners but if you break the car have you got any plans with those wheels? they would probably look good on my Zed!

bad brakes
Feck me thats a sexy table of braking goodies! Rocket Ron: You may have boiled up your fluid if you were thrashing it. If your foot unexpectently went to the floor where it normally would have stopped the car then this is what has happened. Zeds brakes are not very good at being abused. New fluid makes the world of difference, as do decent pads and discs, but the best option is to get a bigger brake setup if you have the wonga.

Dont shout at me
I've always used Millers 10-60 as well. High quality race oil so you can't go wrong. On a standard Zed any good quality fully synthetic 10-40 would do the trick as well.

Stepping Down
Bloody hell mate, you'll be missed. I don't think people ever realise how much work goes into this sort of thing. I hope there's someone who can take over. They had better have some big feet to fill those boots! Hopefully see you at a meet, might chuck you a CV one of these days as the South Coast is a bit more Balmy than the City and I'm just about to finish my CCNP!

I wasn't going to put any phots up until I'd finished doing some little jobs and gave it a wash but I took some for someone tonight so thought I'd post them. I've got some replacements trims and other bits to make it pukka. I got it from the guy who was off to Miami . It had no MOT so he didn't get much interest and had dropped his price from 4k to £2600 as he was leaving in two days. I said I would come with the cash to look if he put it through the MOT. It failed on a tyre and front brake pads so I went up to take a look :) It had loads of history including £2700 for new turbos, a new oem rad £270, and a load of other stuff including the original dealers letter and a bunch of Zed club mags from the previous enthusiast owner :hyper: It was the first UK one I've really looked at and had a bit of rust around the arches but looked good otherwise. The milage is 120k which I suppose is quite high, but its runs spot on, pulls well, and has new turbos so well worth it. All the air-con works well which is a first in one of my cars! It also has a DVD player to distract me in traffic! It has all the original nissan floor mats, targa covers, targa shades, tool box, etc, etc. I took it into the garage and got a couple of new front tyres as the other one was getting low as well, new pads all round and got them to MOT it. It failed on some rear suspension bushes so I had to wait a couple of weeks for them to be ordered. It was stalling once in a while at idle or whilst doing 3 point turns so I got the throttle bodies cleaned up and that has pretty much sorted it. I've got another idle control valve to go on but havn't fitted it as its not really needed. I got the clutch replaced as it was feeling ropey at high revs. That was £500 and including the MOT work and some other bits I've replaced I've spent about a grand. It now has 12mths MOT on it and I reckon its worth £3500-4000. So what I paid plus what I've spent getting everything right over the last month or two and it basically owes me what I might get for it if I sell it again, and I can be confident that everything is right on it :hyper: Its really nice having such a good standard car. My last one was heavily modded so completely different and my first one was just a shed! This one is great so I'm very chuffed. Its good having a nice car for doing journeys in. My old BMW was very reliable but wasn't particularly luxurious as it didn't have aircon or anything like that. I've put it up for sale as I've started drifting the Rx7 and could do with a towing car again, or maybe just a 200 to learn in which would be easier to maintain than the Rex. Ideally I'd keep this but I havn't got enough space for more cars as we are in rented accom. In the meantime I'll keep making it better and hopefully the sun will come out so I can enjoy the roof off action. This one is staying bog standard as I've got a new found appreciation for what Nissan intended :nana2: Hope I havn't bored everyone to much! I'll take some decent photos in the week.- new old git saying hi chaps and chappesses
Yep The Grasshopper mate :) Take a look at my car as it may be just what you are looking for and you are fairly nearby. I'll stick some pictures up that I've taken tonight, but will get better ones in a day or two as the light is low and my phone camera is rubbish. I think I have relations in Woking so may get down that way sometime! Another standard one that looks very good and is for sale at the moment is John-boy in Maidstone. He's just bought SteveEs one that I mentioned.- Domain names. Advice on who to use!
Much the same mate, but we do ours through http://www.1and1.co.uk as we also have the missus website with them. Domain registration is just a case of going on the site and ordering it. Very quick and easy. The hosting service has been quite reasonable for us. The foreign call centers are sometimes annoying but they usually sort things out quickly.- new old git saying hi chaps and chappesses
Welcome to the club :) I like the colour of that Zed. Looks very nice. As for your options, it depends on what you are looking for really and cash: For £5-8k - All singing all dancing modded beast. At this price range you should be able to get one of the best around with new engine, new turbos, all supporting mods to run high power. For the money you pay you get a lot more car as the market for selling isn't so good due to so many dogs being about. They come up every so often on here, last one that springs to mind is SteveEs' a month or two back which was very very nice and had had big money spent. £4-5k About the average price for a very good well modded Zed these days with everything done to it eg new turbos, possibly new engine, and in good nick all round. Nice alloys, maybe boost controller, some bling etc UK ones tend to fetch a premium due to rarity, known history and cheaper insurance, but you usually get some rust in the bargain. Manual are much more desirable, lots of people convert from auto to manual (aprox £1200 all in). £3-4k A good standard Zed goes for about this price. Look for one with most things already done eg turbos(£2500!), clutch (£500), prop shaft bearing (£250),etc, like mine thats tentatively for sale as I could do with something more practical :) If you get a good one then you get a lot of car for the money. Under 3k - usually requires a couple of grand to get it right!- this video explaines, why 200's are better drift cars
Fpmsl! You can have the afm out of my Zed if you want :) - My Zed!
