Brake advice
OK so I would love to stop quicker than I am doing at the moment. Im using the car for making the occasional trip around A roads / motorways. No track or racing use. I've got standard TT calipers front and rear with drilled and slotted discs and would like a better feel and performance without going crazy price-wise (until I can afford a proper big brake upgrade). I'm ordering braided lines and fitting Ferodo pads as well as skimming my discs and using a new change of Motul 5.1 Questions: 1. How much of a difference will those changes be likely to make? I would like to see an improvement on performance so would spend extra if theres virtually no difference – only thing is it would be much more convenient to plan before handing the car in for a servicing so I would'nt be without it for two sessions. 2. Anyone know the best place to get a brake refurbishment kit? 3. What's the view on moving my front calipers to the rears and fitting some new calipers to the front? What would be the best value option (I have 17 inch BBS alloys)? Im quite attracted to the idea of getting EVO brakes in as previous threads have mentioned they are very effective and readily available. Thanks in advance!

Battery for Zed
Funnily enough I just replaced my battery today. I had left it to run flat and it had been that way for a few months. The AA guy was explaining that if it was completely flat it would never properly recharge and even it if did it would probably fail in a month. The battery recommended is a relatively low amperage one (think its 500). I ended up getting an updated 640 Bosch one - works a treat!

classic car insurance costs
Hi mate Gave FJ a ring today - they said the website isnt a club they normally deal with so i was left a bit nonplussed. cheapest quote i could get was 450 limited to 4500 miles which was higher than i expected - 34, 6 yrs NCB, driveway, no mods. Should i be speaking to someone in particular?

Mayweather Vs Marquez
Mayweather is obviously the favourite - though its disappointing to see him com iin so far over the catchweight. Marquez is a warrior though - just watched his first fight with pacquaio on youtube again - fantastic.

Steam from engine bay
Thanks everyone - great advice; it SEEMD to be steam as it was white rather than the blueissh kind of colour ive seen with oil smoke. I will keep an ultraparanoid eye on things over the coming few weeks!

Steam from engine bay
Thanks Dave, Temp seems OK and the car is running really nicely. It just seems weird that the steam was initially there and has now stopped - cant think why there would be an intermittent split in the hose.

Steam from engine bay
Hello chaps, Just got my car back from having a major service. Drove for about 25 miles and pulled over to check evrything was ok. I noticed some minor wisps of steam coming from the back of the engine (around the windscreen wiper area). I was quite wary because I have previously had a split hose in a previous Zed after a service (though i couldnt see one here). I kept a close eye on the temperature gauge and finished my journey (another 25 miles) checking a couple of times again on the way. I didnt see any more steam and this morning on checking the radiator water level I dont seem to have lost any water. Is this something that needs further investigation? Thanks guys

Clear Seal
Right Chaps, I am fitting a new rear perspex strip above the rear lights in about an hour round at my friends house. I need to get hood of some sticky clear glue-like substance - eg Tiger Seal / Silkoflex. Only problem is I cant place an online order and get a delivery within 60 minutes so does anyone have any idea of an equivalent sealant i could pick up from B&Q of Halfrauds etc?

1999 imports?
I believe you are right since the chip went from 8 bit to 16 bit (or something) it was difficult to program them - you actually have to get an old chip socket retro fitted. On the other hand the mechanical components would be better. Personally i would go for a cheaper older Zed and spend the 5k you have saved on modifying/upgrading the components. Even with a 99 spec you will need things doing to it anyway and you are mostly paying money for depreciation of the car (whereas a well looked after older zed is already at the bottom of the depreciation curve).

Wheel width? whats best with big brakes?
Legrath, I have 17' three (double) spoke Super Advans - there seems to be quite a bit of clearance on the stock calipers but how can I work out what the biggest brakes/discs I can fit under there is? Is there a table somewhere or will I have to measure or is it just trial and error? And does anyone know if I get new Front Calipers can i fit the stock ones to the back wheels without too much hassle? I am a complete Brake novice!!

Head Gasket

Head Gasket
Im having similar problems with mine but recent head gasket test turned out to be negative!! wierdly drove it for a good two hours today - didnt boot it and it was as sweet as a nut - hasnt even lost any water! There might be a few different causes for what you are describing -have you had a look at the state of your rad cap? It could be that it has leaked and the bubbles you are getting is from an airlock like you said. Best thing to do if you are worried is do a chemical sniffer test for you head gasket.
