  1. Thanks for the wishes! White is an issue as is Auto too... but yeah I agree generally that one must buy on condition. In terms of budget - 10k isn't the ceiling; in a nutshell I'm looking for something special that I'll hold on to for some time, whether that's an R1 engine GTR of some kind, an NSX, or 300ZX, of all the 90's Japanese exotica however I'd expect the 300zx to be the cheapest (i.e., compared to an R33 GTR R1, NSX etc). Famous owner was Jim Marshall - founder of the valve tube amp. RIP
  2. true that is a nice car! don't like white though...
  3. thanks for the reply mate, 10k not a problem as long as it's a proper mint car
  4. Old timer returning to the forum to see what's happening! I used to have a mint UK z32 in the mid 2000s, got written off over 10 years ago and lately have considered getting back into one. Since then I've had a quite a few different cars including 8 series 840ci sport individual, Porsche 911 993 C4 Varioram Cab Manual (still have it, keeper), SLK, Infiniti QX70, S classes, etc, but feel to add to the stable... could go down the z32 route or r32/33 gtr route How much do late (i.e., 1999 spec) TT Manuals usually go for landed from japan? personally i'm a big fan of OEM styling and would want something mint, not butchered, modded too much etc. My old zed was a UK twin turbo, 1992, FNSH and 1 (famous) owner when I bought it, always garaged. I updated the looks to OEM 1999 spec (z centre used my spoiler to make their mould for their replica spoilers back in the day!), KYB AGX shocks, eibach springs, whiteline ARBs, 350Z rays rims, r33 gtr brembos, ferrodo brakepads, DBA discs, a combination of Nismo and Polybushes, and probably some other stuff I cant remember. Also are parts still readily available and are there any Z specialists still about London? Also, if there are any old members who remember me or my car, holla! (Vijay I recall seeing you a few times, helping me do various jobs on the car!) my old zed...
  5. Thank you ever so much Paul, I'll look for leaks on the struts. Also which Mb dealer do you work for? Plz send me your contact details to dvitarana at g mail dot com as I can no longer send or receive pms! Darren
  6. Need some help with my merc. I have an s320CDI 2002 LWB. 1. The airmatic suspension appears to have collapsed at the front! the front is low, no longer raises and I get warnings on the dashboard to visit workshop. However, an indie was able to raise the car using some sort of diagnostic machine, but the computer still says visit workshop and the dash buttons do not apear to do anything. Any idea on what I should look out for and advice on how I can diagnose the problem? 2. I now get an EPC warning upon kickdown, and the revs do not rise when I see the warning however it is intermittant. Any ideas what this could be? MB Collindale replaced an injector recently and since then this has happened intermittently. MB Collindale for whatever reason cannot solve the problem and insist that it isnt due to them changing the injector... 3. Central locking pneumatic pump failure!!?!? Central locking no longer operates, any tips on how to fix this pump or is it a replace job? I have obtained a 2nd hand PSE which appears to work for a short while but the fuse blows. 4. Merc Anti corrosion warranty, any idea on how long this lasts and is it dependant on FMBSH? A merc of this vintage obviously has the dreaded corrosion! The car does have FMBSH. Paul C, your advice (or anyone elses for that matter) would be greatly appreciated, and if you think it would be worth bringing the car to you, I will gladly do so. best, darren
  7. can anyone help ? :(
  8. removing swirls by hand is a b!tch - get yourself a DA polisher. I have a kestrel DAS6 with Sonus pads and a variety of polishes/sealants. If you go dual action and not rotary, youre pretty safe. using sometihng like AG Super Resin Polish will only fill swirls and they will reappear. best thing is to head to detailingworld website and look at some of the kits offered by companies such as 'serious performance', who are an official trader on gtr.co.uk alex creasy is a very helpful chap.
  9. agreed great cars, but a bit chalk and cheese. my brother's in the trade and has had a few R230 SL500s, great cars - personally i love them but in terms of driving, you can feel somewhat detatched. now i dont mean that in a negative way, there are times when you dont want to feel too attached to the driving experience and you want a fast, well built, good looking (maybe open top) cruiser, then the SL it is. the porsche on the other hand is more about the driving experience. it all depends on what you're after! just drive as many cars that fit your requirements and budget and you will find the right car for you. BUT... 993 FTW! They are classics and have bottommed out and if anything will appreciate, have great engine, handling and timeless looks... SL would just continue to depreciate and rust like most recent mercs do... just ask paul c!
  10. equivelant enthusiasts on the porsche side are found at 911uk.com ... just dont mention the nissan gtr ;)
  11. indeed a 993 c2s is a very nice car. i have a 993 c4 varioram cab, new 4s/2s (m033) shocks and springs from porsche, and turbo f&R ARBs, along with all new bushes... beleive me driving in the summer on nice winding roads, hood down, listening to the RSR exhaust is a real hoot. i've driven a fair few 993's and the cab isnt really much different despite what some might say, and with my suspension mods, it is a real delight... looks though are a matter of opinion. porsche's arent all that bad u know, although i'd like to get a 99-spec z32 TT one day to rejoin the stable after my last zed's death in 2007.
  12. understood buddy! hope my other post is ok!
  13. a true 911 enthusiast would choose a 993 over a 996 ;) of course thats tongue in cheek as I have one... 996 are good cars, just research the RMS issue and know what to look out for. If you have any questions you can find me on 911uk.com with the same username or feel free to email me at dvitarana (at) gmail dot com.
  14. Sorry, matey registered users are not permitted to sell on the forum, please subscribe first.
  15. cheers groover, i just saw his birthday thread after i posted! rome huh!? lucky guy!
  16. one more thing vijay, re interior, there is a chap in wembley who retrimmed my porsche with nappa leather and did a top job. his prices are reasonable too and he also works freelance with VAG on building their concept car interiors, a very knowledgable and honest chap. if you want i can show you his work on my car and pass on his details... i no longer have PM privileges so call/text me! darren
  17. Hi Paul! Not sure if you're still active here and sorry about resurrecting an old post! my PM privileges have run out. I have an s320CDI 2002 LWB. 1. The airmatic suspension appears to have collapsed at the front! the front is low, no longer raises and I get warnings on the dashboard. Any idea on what I should look out for and advice on how I can diagnose the problem? 2. I now get an EPC warning upon kickdown, and the revs do not rise when I see the warning. A merc of this vintage obviously has the dreaded corrosion! The car does have FMBSH but recently lost the service book - any idea of how I can get a reprint? my local MB Collindale cannot help (was not originally supplied by them, nor was it serviced by them other than the very last service). Original supplier is Rycroft MB and they did the original servicing but they cannot help me for some reason! your advice (or anyone elses for that matter) would be greatly appreciated. best, darren
  18. good to see you've found people you trust! Did you ever get round to asking that guy whom I recommended? Chris at E&A Coachworks? He does a lot of restoration stuff for classic porsches, it would be worth hitting him up still, personally thats the only bodyshop i trust. did toy with the thought of another zed... as you can see i do visit the boards from time to time, never really see any zeds that catch my eye though... although i'm wondering what genuine '99 specs would go for these days... i currently have a 1996 911 (993) carrera 4. i'm thinkng of selling for a new gtr or a left of field option, porsche cayman s and do some silly mods! although its slightly ghey. u have my number still? bell me some time be good to catch up!
  19. that reminds me, if you need a set of calipers i have some from my old 1992 TT as well as discs and pads all in good condition. email me if interested dvitarana at gmail. com
  20. could be non-gtr skyline brakes iirc they look similar to z32 ones and no real improvement over the stock items. i also recall courtesy z selling these non-gtr items. try and get yourself a set of brembos!
  21. man... thats a shame. whats left to do? what do you need to put back together? also where is your rust? I hope you get it back on the road... i miss my zed too... :(
  22. vijay!? what the hell happened man! is it just a case of putting things back together or you still not happy with the paintwork? long time no see btw.
  23. this reminds me of when i got my zed back in 2005, 1992 j reg, uk car, 1 owner, fnsh, 36k miles, red, perfect. the only thing that stopped my getting into another zed after the write-off was that there were no others in anywhere as good condition. this one looks close... but the colour is imho not too good!! if it was red, i'd happily add it to my stable which currently consists of a porsche 993 c4 cab! off topic.. richard, didnt you have a red zed before?
  24. sorry for the highjack.... vijay! call me, i'm looking to have some retrim work done on my porsche 911 so maybe we can collectively get a discount? hope you're well, long time no see! on topic: i recall about 3 years ago when i was an active member here there was an american based company selling the leather facings for the 300zx, you could choose double stitching etc and the quality was supposed to be good per feedback from the LA 300zx boards... but for the life of me cant find the thread with the company's link here! do any of the old timers here know what i'm talking about?? thanks hope you're all well
