Unbelievable, have been helping this guy via pm to sort his alarm fitting problems. He txt at 3.30pm this afternoon saying still couldn't sort it and could I have a look as I'd offered. I said no problem but I'm up at millbrook proving grounds in Bedfordshire and wouldn't be leaving before 4.30pm but would be going back round to croydon across the QE2 at dartford so would detour down to his in sittingbourne kent!. Ok that's great was the reply. Got there at 6:50pm after texting earlier to say was about 15 mins away and guess what? Nobody in apart from his mate who just said "he's gone" and shut the door! No answer to texts or calls. Wonder why I bother sumtimes!

Well have just put another VC on (number 4) And a brand new jap spec alternator belt and it is still screaming like a bitch when it's cold and now even when it's warm if I stop and then set off again. Then as you drive you hear the whoosh and it's all right for a while. What the fck is wrong with it? And just how tight are you supposed to tighten the belts? I've got them to what I would normally consider to be tight already!

Ive just put another VC on and this one is just as bad! i found it in the back of the shed so im assuming its one of the many faulty ones ive removed over the last 12 years of Z ownership but i had to take the chance and give it a go. My assumptions were right, it was one of my faulty ones! Rather than throw it away at the time i must have thought id better keep that to give away to some poor tortured soul that also has the same problem. Just like Joely p did :winkiss:

Well the saga continues! ive just fit the replacement VC thing that was kindly donated by Joely P and am not sure if this one works correctly either. My question is, WHAT IS THE FAN SUPPOSED TO DO AND SOUND LIKE WHEN ITS WORKING CORRECTLY???? mine starts with a huge WHOOOOOSH when you start from cold but it doesnt stop or get quieter when the engines hot and sounds more like a jet engine when i set off!

AVCR and havnt got the slightest clue of how it works and am terrified to touch it or look at it directly!

It is the most annoying noise you could ever have! I expect it's driving you as mad as it is me!

As soon as the fan goes whoooosh all is well, if it was belt or alternator it would do it all the time

It is the alternator belt that's squeeling although I have changed the power steering belt aswell. The AC pump and pulleys etc have all been removed so there not a problem. When the belts squeels the battery light flickers. I've had this problem twice before over the last 13 years of Z ownership and a sticking VC when it's cold is quite a common fault I beleive

Yeah that would be no problem mate as I work in kelvedon now. I'll bring the controller with me aswell

It's a brand new belt and I've had it checked twice. Only happens when it's started up from cold aswell

Has anyone got a VC for sale?

Yet again I am being plagued by a dodgy viscous fan that squeaks and groans whenever I start the car before I eventually get the whoosh as it starts too spin. I've put a new correct sized jap import drive belt from MJP and have had it checked and adjusted twice but it still does it so it's not the belt. Can I just take the fkn thing off and chuck it in the bin (after giving it the good news with a lump hammer) and replace it with an electric one?

It's the actuator in the drivers door not working correctly. It's not fully pushing and pulling the CDL switch for the passenger door Paul Oops you just said that! I can supply you a new quality actuator.

That's the kind of nightmare scenario that crossed my mind!! It did tick over like a sewing machine before I set off :scared:

I'm pretty sure it's an engine rattle, sounds a bit like a tappets rattle
