Ive done the same thing with one of my 328i sports mate. It was from a forum member over on e36coupe.com He'd driven to me from Devon, as he was having my 540i. We'd done a deal that i was giving him £250 and my car. When he got to me, he'd already told me that the bodywork needed doing, but not as bad as it was in real life! The idle valve was dead, the Pas pump and wheel bearing too. I was annoyed, but they were little jobs and he'd driven all that way, i felt i had to do the deal. I wish i hadn't! I should have given him some fuel money and sent him on his way. Since owning the car, ive discovered the LSD its got, isn't an LSD! And taking the side skirt off, showed 2 big patches that have been welded! A shed of a car, but its my fault for taking it. Im now breaking it!
