  1. Just about cleared the sills
  2. I got some shots of the door speakers with the gap covers on for you to have a look at And the parcel shelf
  3. good work guys Check my photos, see if that helps http://s1040.photobucket.com/albums/b403/KR1S1/The%20Z-Factor/
  4. post a photo of the amp and connections as some amps have an internal bridging system
  5. Hi You will see that i had to install some risers in the doors to accommodate the depth of the infinities. They are only about an inch tall and the grill just clears the rubber door seal. There is no contact with the legs and the grills. There is some dyna-mat inside the door cavity but acoustic foam would be just as good. The speakers have tweeters built in that allow you to angle them in the direction that gives you the best clarity without hissing. I have since made two upholstered covers that are screwed over the remaining gap to cover up the ugly, i'll put the pics up tomorrow. Oh! yeah , there are two super tweeters ( pioneer with in-line crossovers ) in the back and the two speakers are now covered by two 10" sub-grills. This was my third attempt. There is a large hole below the amp to allow air to pass over and under it to keep it cool while the sun is blazing. and the cables just drop through. I have also felt ripped off by so called specialist audio installers in the past now i know how to use a router and a jigsaw. gimme a shout if you need a hand, i have loads of cables etc left over from other fittings i've done in the past.
  6. Hi Leo The shelf lifts up to reveal ample boot space for a £120 trip to Tesco supermarket, i also have my wife up front and two kids in the back so no cheating there .The photo doesn't show this but the backs of the speakers are enclosed, this is why the amp is up top. There is no need for a sub as the enclosed boot and speakers give enough resonance to create the sub harmonics ( bass without noise ) needed. The front of the parcel shelf sits just below the ( roller blind ) boot cover , and the back sits on brackets fitted to the side trim in the boot. The whole lot sit on a layer of memory foam and there is a hand grab for ease of lifting and removal if ness. In the beginning i did sit the back end on legs but they got in the way of the shopping ( my wife's favorite hobby ) The parcel shelf is cut from 1" MDF and upholstered in black faux suede. When the blind is pulled you can see nothing ....even from the sides. No screws hold the shelf in place as the memory foam creates a non slip/bounce cradle. i can send you some more pics if you want. I'm using infinity speakers in the front and re-run some decent ( oxygen free ) speaker cables from the head unit to the doors. In the back there are also a pair of infinities backed with 10mm ply and ported. The size of these are important to get the correct sound. The head unit is Alpine, but any decent head unit that gives you control of the bass placement will work well. Prodigy rocks here also Remember The Shamen? Take care buddy
  7. Hi mate Here is one of my solutions http://i1040.photobucket.com/albums/b403/KR1S1/The%20Z-Factor/Newice-1.jpg
  8. I see what you mean, FunkySi, the rear does look a bit naked. The brake light is gone and so is the black panel that finishes off the top of the tail lights. The plan is to have another fin fitted but not right now as i'm searching for an absolute bargain, i can tell you that it looks better now than the holes that were there when i fist brought it. I was toying with the idea of having the rear wiper upgraded to a more beefier looking type or totally removed....what's your opinion. I also want to get rid of the aerial and have that smoothed over.
  9. Maybe this one as i'm still learning
  10. I hope the photo shows here is the finless boot http://i1040.photobucket.com/albums/b403/KR1S1/The%20Z-Factor/IMG_3197.jpg
  11. Yo! Quavey, thanks mate. I'm in negotiations with a sprayer that will do my bodywork for me. the plan was to get rid of the " Carrots " on the wings. will be on ebay in the morning for a look. The grey is nice but have my choice of colour if the deal goes through, any suggestions? I feelin' yours though, very tasty nose. My very next mod is to my daughters legs so she can fit behind me a little better..........i'll post pictures HA! HA!
  12. " ennit! "
  13. Infinity all the way, four of them in my zed
  14. YAAAAAAY! it works , HE HE
  15. Hi Janus, Yes it is an sony xplod amp, I would normally go for JBL but this is what i had laying around. I may not know a lot about car mechanics but i do like ice and will try three or four speaker and amp combinations to get the acoustics of the car correct . I love clean sound without noise. i have modded the doors to fit better speakers and ran proper cable to them from the head unit , there are plans to install an amp up front for those. The parcel shelf at the rear is 1 inch mdf with ported boxes on the back, i'll send you some more pics if you want. Your audio hardware selection should be governed by how many speakers you plan to use, amp power and speaker location, once you know what type of sound you want then work each stage one by one testing at each stage till it's done. Use good grade speaker cable though. HOLLINGS is this what you meant???? [1.jpg][/url]
  16. Still trying http://s1040.photobucket.com/albums/b403/KR1S1/The%20Z-Factor/
  17. Hi This is as close as i can get to showing you a photo at the moment. I'll get it sorted soon
  18. Boy! Some of you guys out there either have some d**k lengthening motors ...or got some great pictures to pretend with. Thanks for all the greetings. I wanted to put some pictures up but i couldn't, maybe i need to subscribe or be a member for more than a day. I will put some up though, not that mine is anywhere near the level of some of you guys but somewhere out there is a guy that is using a picture of someone else's car and to him I'm saying.......... " HA " ......." Mine's real " . The first issue I'm about to address is the headlamps. What ? Did Nissan used to make fairy lights back in the day, and had surplus stock ? . I have been told to upgrade the bulbs, What are you guys using 'cause most of you have kept them original. RIGHT.........sensible answers only .........i have kids....and a wife ..........I'd like to keep it that way as long as possible.........( as soon as them kids move out i'm getting a full interior trim job done, already picked out the leather.....just 10-12 more years to go ) What's the point not being able to drive at night? I get more illumination from my smile. P**s poor, someone should have had their fingers rapped for that. Was it too much to ask for a shield or harder plastic/leather combination to take care of the lumbar bit of the drivers seat ( RHS ) that wears into a hole on every Z I've seen? But the ride.............and the looks you get .........well worth it Has anyone else noticed that men driving Jags and much more expensive cars always step out at the petrol station and do that " Leaning sideways walk " towards you and your Zed? and they wanna have motor talk like " Bet she goes well? " And you're like " Ennit ", Also when you're at the lights and people spend so much time looking at your profile till they don't see the lights change ? ..............And you're like ....." Ennit ". Or when you an the missus are driving with the Targas out, and you drive pass some " NOT as good as the wife ( wink wink ) but not far enough from her to make you go eeeeyuuk! " ..sort of woman.....and she's staring at you and the car and you look at the wife and go........." Ennit " 'cause you know you gained an extra inch or two Ennit?. ( EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T NEED IT ) just to broaden my friend base with the less confident of our members.......you know who you are. Right I'm off Thanks to you guys that replied.
  19. Hi everyone my three older brothers have owned and driven Zeds from the 240 upwards for a very long time, i wanted to be the black sheep of the family and stick to normal cars, much to their disapproval. So... i was given a 91 ZX300, N/A manual ...........and wrap me in wool and douse me in bleach....i'm hooked .......line and sinkered. It's the best thing my a**e has had the pleasure to sit never mind drive. I am now complete and find myself tech talking with them now and polishing ... It's almost like i've found religion. The possibilities are endless and being a avid modeller it kind of ticks all my boxes. i HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT Thanks:lol
  20. i'll send you some pictures by e-mail if you still need to see some pics
  21. Hi I had my tailfin removed and a plate was welded in place i have tried to put a picture up but no joy, i'll find a way.
  22. Hi I had a knocking noise from the rear of my z when i first had it. Under strong advice i had several mechanics try to locate the problem, which included a total strip down of the whole assembly. In the end it was my exhaust, the arms that the last two rubber bushes are located ( on the passenger side ) were slightly bent ( for whatever reason ) and having the stiffened suspension fitted caused it to knock at the slightest dimp in the road surface or pulling off. The arms were re-aligned and a tie wrap was put around the center of the rubbers to stiffen them up a little. hope this helps as sometimes there is more money than sense floating about.
